A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appellate tribunal on Sunday suspended a five-year ban on controversial fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar for a month so that he could participate in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). The tribunal, headed by former High Court judge Aftab Farrukh, accepted a plea from Akhtar’s lawyers that the ban should be suspended temporarily so that the pacer can play in the lucrative IPL. A PCB disciplinary committee, headed by Lt Gen (r) Munir Hafeez, banned Akhtar last month for several incidents of indiscipline. Steve Rubel wrote an excellent post this morning on participation is marketing. However, as much as Steve’s the gold standard for mainstream concepts and thought leadership, this is not a new idea.
As you know, I am a big proponent of the “Participation is Marketing” approach to PR. I’ve been pushing it, and I can tell you exactly where it originates: This is Chris Heuer’s idea — not Steve’s — as evidenced by this March 12 post.
Participation is marketing has been bantered about by Chris Heuer, Brian Solis, Todd Defren and others for months now. These folks should get credit for forging the “Participation is Marketing” concept, not Steve. Though I suspect Steve will get a lot of credit for this post. And in the words of Brian Oberkirch, not giving people credit for their work makes you a chucker.

The question is whether or not link exchange is still effective and the question is whether it can get you penalized in Google or not.
A lot of different opinions and wild speculations are out there, but one thing I have noticed is this:
Whether or not link exchange hurts and no matter to what extent, realtors have taken notice and removed their state pages. So are we now not allowed to link to friends we have all over the country because of Google? Not at all! I believe that whatever you do, make sense. Common sense. A lot of what I have noticed with Google is the need for balance. The algorithm seems to get better at detecting strategies which are being implemented for the purpose of gaining positions in the SERPs.

Google Has come up with New Online Survey that would help Google to Improve their Google products, both existing ones and those that are still in development. To participate in the Online Survey, all you need to do is to sign up where you can tell google which of the different types you are interested in.

The FAQ says that Google "typically pay $75 for each hour that you spend with a Google researcher, either in person or on the phone".
