Our friend Yuji went outside for some air and saw…a parrot in his palm tree. He quickly snapped a photo of it. This parrot was spotted about 6 miles from my home. It looks like a Mexican Redheaded parrot to me. I had one once when I was younger (unfortunately it passed away from a heart problem 20 years ago). It’s always exciting to see a parrot on your property (at least for me; and apparently for Yuji as well). Their numbers are growing out here in California. Some people complain about the noise they make when they fly overhead. I say I’d rather have less noise from people talking on cell phones and playing the loud bass in their cars.

Lately, Spaz has been jumping on my shoulder. She stays perched there, like a parrot, as I walk about the house. If I start moving too fast, she puts a hind foot on either shoulder and hugs my forehead, resting her chin on the top of my head. This is a pretty talented parrot. I think he is a better golfer than I am. Maybe if I went out and practiced a little bit I might get better. He can dunk a pretty mean basketball as well. Oh yes- see the picture of Tickle, our talking African Grey Parrot? He really is a star and can say all sorts of outrageous things. Including 'Do you fancy a curry?' 'What are you doing?' 'Tick, tick, tick, Tickle' 'Give us a kiss', 'Stop it', and of course the usual 'Hello' and 'Bye bye', and lots more. He can also swear - not taught by us (of course!) - his previous owner was known to utter frequent obscenities. But his claim to fame is his whistling. He can whistle a famous football chant and various other tunes including the loudest wolf whistle you have ever heard. An old lady came in the other day and said that he had made her day!But good old Tickle made headline news in our local paper at Christmas because we taught him to whistle 'Jingle Bells'. I started this a week ago - just after I did the pastel version - see Parrots In Pastel. The first two stages were done from life. I'm getting quite excited. I photographed my part-finished third parrot tulip bloom with the other two this morning when I was photographing the amaryllis. I just couldn't wait to see what they all look like sat next to one another............it was the impact of the first two which made me want to do this third one.And this is what I got. I've just laid down the sheets of paper next to one another. Bear in mind that the third one on the right is only half finished.And then I got that nice comment from Linda on the last one suggesting I do maybe another seven instead of another one!!!And I'm already eyeing up some more parrot tulips - can you tell they are one of my favourite flowers? But I've also got the amaryllis, the pussy willow and the narcissi to do as well!!!What this exercise has convinced me of is the value of doing a small series of the same flower at the same time - and I'll certainly be trying this again.I'll post the third bloom when completed together with another
