I recently read an article that said that "working moms are still more likely to do household chores and childcare." America, aren't we beyond that, yet? I mean, seriously. My job is no less serious than my husband's. My income is no less meaningful. And that means that my contribution around the house and with our future children should be no more overbalanced than his, right?Wrong, apparently.According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, on an average day, only 54% of fathers help out with childcare, while 71% of mothers are stuck carrying the full load. Similarly, on an average day, only 64% of men help out around the house, while 89% of women are left maintaining everything.Men, wake the hell up. This is an order! We all have episodes from our past that we may not be proud of. Many are the exact behaviors we tell our kids not to do. Don’t drink, don’t smoke, don’t have sex, don’t pierce, don’t get a tattoo.
Luckily for us parents, MySpace, YouTube, and digital cameras weren’t around when we young, so [...]
Well, that was interesting. TwelveFourteen people voted yesterday in the poll where I asked "Do you think today's kids have it easier than you did?" and the overwhelming majority (10 of you) said that you don't believe they do. Your reasoning was both sound and articulate and I must say I'm in agreement with you. My reasoning is a little bit different and you may disagree with me (which is perfectly okay, trust me), but here's what I think.I think that today's kids have it a lot harder because they don't have parents that are parenting them. You probably weren't expecting that, were you? (Of course, I'm not talking about ALL parents here, you understand, but the vast majority -- at least where I live). I know many of you stay at home with your kids and that those of you who work are doing

Works For Me Wednesday is doing a reverse today. Shannon is asking us to share what does not work with us or did not work with us. Since I am on a Mothers Day Theme this two week in my blog, I thought I'd share something that didn't work for me as a mom. You guessed it: Ezzo Parenting.I felt compelled to share this here to let "new mothers" or "expecting mothers" know that the principles taught in the books written by the Ezzo's are not for everyone. In fact, there are only a few parents I know who were successful at using it. Yes, I know a couple who raised their 7 kids using the Ezzo way, and yes they are healthy, polite kids... but my point is, it is not for everyone. Certainly didn't work for me.The problem with the Ezzo parenting is that they labeled it "God's Way" when in fact, t

Over Parenting - What Are The Consequences Of Over Parenting For Our Children? - What are the consequences for children of over parenting and overprotective parents? The verdict is in on the Britster's parenting know-how.But we're just going to have to wait a little bit longer to find out if she gets a thumbs up or thumbs down from the court. E! While no specific positives or criticisms have been made public, the report's findings are expected to get a full airing at the next hearing in the case, set for May 6, when attorneys are planning to
A hearty thanks to all those who entered the swimsuit competition, sharing your lame parenting advice nuggets with me. Competition was seriously stiff; it's amazing how much utter nonsense we moms are told when we produce spawn: from the bottle mom receiving "breast is best" (Jennifer!) to being told to avoid rounded car seats (Hi, Marina), to being given books that include bits on how to avoid raising a gay son (Bklynmom!). Of course having your crunchy mom-friend suggest a placenta-cake for family noshing is always a sensible tip for the new mama to to take home from the hospital (Hi, Mommyknows!).Indeedy, I had a good chuckle reading the entries and truly think we should compile a book of these, to give out to family members and friends when people have babies; i.e., Moms' Advice on Bad
Parenting For Excellence - Focus On the Heart of Your Child, Not On Their Behavior - Don't hit your brother! Stop whining! Be quiet! Don't do this, don't touch that! These are probably a premium selection of the top favorite commands that are given to our children daily. We parents are good at giving commands to our children. And we should be. After all, God has given us the responsibility, and therefore also the authority, to educate them. Commands are wonderful! Once they are pronounced they have a way of quickly reestablishing peace in our families. Phew! And we can go on with whatever we were doing. At least for a while... Depending on the obedience of our children, they all look pretty under control once the problem is dealt with. But is it really? Is it enough to give a command

When I was selected to review this book for MotherTalk I was very excited! I had already heard a good buzz about Mama Rock's Rules which is written by none other than Chris Rock's mother Rose Rock. Mama Rock's Rules is absolutely nothing like I thought it would be. It was so much better! I had seen her on The View and I immediately respected her as a mother - she almost commanded respect, just as she did with her family. When I first heard about it I knew it was about how she raised her children, but when I started to read this book I was immediately taken with how in depth it was. It contained everything from words of wisdom to how to handle exact situations. This is a woman who didn't just raise her own 10 children but provided a loving and stable home for 17 foster children. What is the best way to handle difficult behavior in children? What is the best method of child discipline? What are the most successful ideas and parenthood. The opinions are endless. The expert advice is enormous. The proof is scarce. Many sources for advice and parenthood are on the basis of opinions, values and observations of men, a lot of their time in office. While we agree with most of these professionals, they probably have no idea what your life is really like. Most of these authors have not spent one day meet the challenges that we, as mothers, face day after day after day. I have no intention to discredit these people and their many good ideas and parenthood. I want you to consider how you from the huge stocks of parenting advice that the real expert!Spanking is an emotional is
Everyday, parents have to make difficult decisions on what values and morals they want to raise their children with. The usual suspects: Methodist or Catholic? Democratic or Republican? Please. Spare me. Traditional arguments are so passé.The real question boils down to a simple question of ultimate loyalty. Your gang or mine? Coming to you straight from the heart of the Rockies, news of a Colorado couple's violent struggle to agree on the fundamentals of raising their four-year-old son has raised the eyebrows of many.View the full story here
