I think this is the first time I have quoted my hometown paper in my blog. It is unfortunate that the first time it has to be to point out the bias of the journalist writing the story. Normally the Press Enterprise is a fairly even handed source of news. I have been an on and off subscriber to it for the 20 years I have lived in Riverside. This is a good example of a reporter letting his own political biases creep into the story.PALM SPRINGS - Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani made no effort to differentiate himself from the other Republicans seeking the party's nomination as he spoke Saturday at a national gathering of Republican women. Palm Springs, 2004There used to be water that flowed down the San Jacinto Mountains this time of year. Could it be global warming causing the West's drought. I'm not sure. As a guy who's had a couple of climatology courses under his belt (I've got a B.S. degree in meteorology from FSU), I know there have been longer and worse droughts than this before. On the other hand, one might conclude that, with all the melting water at the poles, the ocean is cooling. Of course the dynamics are much more complex that that. In meteorology, they use equations, with each variable weighted according to how much scientists think it affects the climate. What would you guess in percentage terms the weight (in percent) of the temperture of the water of the melted ice at the poles would affect the climate? My friends Kristen, Mercedes, Lane and I, along with my sister and some of her friends, are planning a trip to Palm Springs in March to kick back and get away for a while. Since we had our first planning session on the phone last night, I thought I'd drop them a note and a little inspiration to get them geared up for the trip.I found this double palm frame at Z Gallerie that was meant for the occasion, so I'm including some pictures of palm trees inside the frames. Afterwards, we can put our own photos in there as a memento of the vacation.I'm wrapping this gift in Peculiar Pair Press Trellis gift wrap, because the colors coordinate so nicely with the desert color scheme of yellows, browns and a hint of green. To top it all off, I tied an antique copper dupioni silk bow from Midori Ribbon.

This is a view of Mt. San Jacinto looking to the west from Palm Springs, California. The rugged, dry mountain areas loom over the desert oasis towns and provide late afternoon shadows which ease the blazing heat on the desert floor. A tramway travels to the top of the mountain where the temperatures are much cooler and the view is spectacular. By the way, Palm Springs is a great place to visit in the middle of winter where it is generally mild and sunny.
