It is alarming the way the food prices are sky rocketing these days. Every time we go to the grocery, we notice an increase in the price even for the essential commodities like bread, pulses, milk, vegetables etc. We seem to be getting lesser and lesser for the same amount each year. I personally feel [...]

A Twist in the Tale: Palak Tofu
Me: Eiks… What’s that ugly green thing Amma? Mom: Its spinach. I am making spinach curry for tonight’s dinner. Me: Eww… Don’t bother! I had rather eat plain rice than eating that yucky green thing! Mom: Why don't you taste little and see if you like it. Me: I don’t want to taste it because I know I won’t like it. So why tasting it when I already know I am not gonna like it? Mom: Because it’s good

Plain Bhujias, Palak Bhujias ~ My Crispy Temptations!
What is it that motivates you when you feel little low? Or what is that you do, when you have some time on hand? For me, its always been leafing through the many cookbook collected and mostly through the files that I created with so much care and affection. When I feel a want for motivation or have a min to spare, I take out my file and lovingly go through each page. Caressing on the pages, with a strange feeling flowing through the veins, looking at those delicately created and artistically presented food, boosts me like nothing. Food, I believe is the sustenance that gets everybody going and one that is created and given with much love, makes up for everything in this world. Be it preparing and enjoying it, I have learnt from my family. Be it anything, Amma always puts in lot of thought

      Aloo Palak (Spinach Potato Curry)
Don’t we all have one of those days? Days on which there is nothing new to say, the words don’t seem to flow, the thoughts don’t catch up and there is no connection between the two. You don’t feel like writing about the recipe. No matter how much you look around and tax your brain [...]

      Palak Soup (Spinach Soup)
Growing up I had always been attracted to red foods. I could never really understand this fascination, but a red curry always seemed more appetizing than a green curry. Beets seemed more attractive than cucumbers. I never gave it much thought till I came across a research paper done by our friends at the TWBA / Chiat Day agency for their client, Heinz ketchup. Apparently, this is a very common phenomenon and not as I thought, one more of my many irritating habits. A plate of food where the central item is red always looks appetizing. This is because the eye associates the colour red with many appealing things. Freshly killed meat and blood. An abundance of blood in one’s body also signifies good health. And thus the eye looks for this colour on a plate. I just wish that I could’ve known these facts when I was young. It would’ve made refusing some rather unappealing dishes that mom tried to shove down our throats easier. It also explains my disdain for all things green. Like this

      Palak Paneer
"I yam what I yam, and that's all I yam," is one of the catchphrases of Popeye the Sailor. Who wouldn't know Popeye the sailor, especially with kids this is very popular show on TV. This character is better known for his superhuman strength he gets on eating spinach. It is said that spinach farmers in Crystal City, Texas were so grateful for this they erected a statue of Popeye in the town and credited him for saving the then-dying spinach industry.- source wikipediaThe influence of such cartoon characters are amazing as I have seen my friend's son, who initial refused to eat spinach, started eating after seeing this show. He is such a great fan and forever saying his biceps have grown big because of eating spinach.Coming to facts, spinach is a great leaf. Tastes great and easy to make. And such a wonderful dish from a simple leafy vegetable is unbelievable.Palak Paneer is our all time favorite dish at home. We all like this dish with pulka and naan whereas my Dad likes to have this

      Palak Kofta Curry
Every weekend is a big cooking bash for us. By the time we drag ourselves from bed and eat our brunch it will be past 1 o'clock in the noon. So we start cooking for dinner at our own pace. I love cooking in leisure without any hurry. So usually Saturday dinner is always special and exotic Indian food. This weekend was no exception. And what else can be exotic than Koftas!!! I didn't want to make the regular Aloo Koftas in basic Onion and tomato base curry. So this time I opted Palak/Spinach for base curry. As kofta is prepared by deep frying, I wanted to make it packed with whole lot of nutrition and nothing can beat spinach in that case. This time I went for simple, straight forward recipe which I want to share with all my blog buddies. Palak Kofta CurryIngredients:3 bunches Palak/Spinach, wahed and finely chopped1 cup Milk3 Onions, finely chopped4-5 Potatoes4 slices of Bread1/4 cup Green Peas1 inch Cinnamon2-3 Green Cardamom3-4 Cloves2-3 Green Chillies1 inch Ginger, minced1 tsp C
