      Master Street Painter Kurt Wenner
Kurt Wenner has been around longer than Julian Beevers, but wasn't lucky enough to have the viral email element that Beevers had. Some say Wenner was the creator/pioneer of Anamorphic Street Art (using geometry to create an illusion of depth). His work may seem same-same but he was the first. And there's no denying that he knows how to paint that Italian Masters style![VIA]

What is digital art? The future of digital art, and some corel painter tips.
I originally wanted to write an article on the definition of digital art, and now I finally made myself write it. Digital art is art created with the help of a computer. This can be done in many different ways. A picture can be modelled in 3D and rendered, or art painted in the traditional sense with the aid of a tablet, or even a simple mouse (I really hope everyone reading this are sitting on a tablet though hehe). Pictures can also entirely be generated of the computer like with a program called “Apophysis”. This program can also help you with creativity in Corel Painter, if you are struggling on getting inspiration. It basically automatically creates shapes of colors with a click of a button. I have used it myself many times before painting pictures in corel painter. With the comput

I watched this video that other day, as I was surfing around on corel painter related sites. Wanted to get some inspiration for some new art work. Then I found this video, and it really got me exited about the RealBristle Brushes. It is so cool and flexible, you can really create some cool things with this. Real bristle brushes can give you some nice variations and effects, that mainly should be used for spreading paint over large areas. Like putting in the color of the ground, sea, or sky. So what are you waiting for, you should begin right away to experiment yourself with this great feature in corel painter! Who knows maybe it will become your favorite tool soon ;)

I always answer short and simple to those people if they have tried corel painter, and sadly the answer is usually "no". Then i follow up with giving them a link to download it and try it out for themselves. I have always wondered why photoshop has become such a popular program, when corel painter exists. In my opinion photoshop should be used for photo editing, and not for painting, as it cant simulate real life brushes as well. The new version of corel painter is really a brilliant piece of software people, and is strongly recommended. Also I recommend going to the corel painter gallery, to get inspired by the possibilities that are within corel painter.

Monet, The Painter Of The Dreams
Claude Oscar Monet was born in Paris (France) in the year 1840. Since he was very young he was deeply interested in art. When he was 15 years old, he did an amateur exposition in a store in "El Havre" with some drafts.Eugene Boudin was pleasantly amazed with those drafts, and offered himself to be his teacher. Monet agreed with pleasure.Even with the opposition of his father, that hated the idea of his son being an artist, he kept on following his dreams. He had to serve for two years in a military regiment in Algeria. After this, he went to Paris to study painting. There, he met Renoir, Sisley, Bazille... painters like him that became his friends. These artists, with Monet, became great symbols of the impressionist art. These group of impressionist painters had to fight against those others that preferred a more traditional art. They used to gather in the cafe Guerbois, where they shared ideas, experiences...In the past, the painters did the drafts outdoors, and finished their artwork

The black pants are a simple touch, usually enough to help offset nearly anything but nothing is going to offset that monstrosity on her upper body. It’s like a plastic painters top that someone draped over her and tested out various types of black paints on. Post Melrose Place has not been a good place for Daphne! Maybe she should start studying more Heather Locklear paparazzi pictures? Now there’s a girl that always looks elegant. As my favorite girls at GoFugYourself would say: Fugly. Dadd the Painter
Of all the prominent English artists who came to international attention during the reign of Queen Victoria, Richard Dadd definitely is in a class by himself. Born in 1817, as the fourth of seven children, Dadd showed early promise as an artist and began sketching at an early age. After his family moved to London, he entered the Royal Academy of Arts at the age of twenty. Along with other artists with whom he studied, Dadd formed an important group that became known as the Clique although he remained the foremost artist among them. Their meetings throughout the 1830s and into the 1840s inspired a new style of painting that rejected academic high art and favoured more personal art that they felt should be judged by the public rather than academics. Given Dadd's developing prominence in the art world, it was only natural that he was chosen to go with his patron, Sir Thomas Phillips, as a draftsman on a planned expedition through Greece, Turkey and Egypt. Photographic Inspiration From A Master Painter...
Where does your inspiration come from? For me, a trip to the local Barnes and Noble News Stand is more than enough to fire me up about photography! With all the great US and European Photography Magazines to peruse, I am reminded that Edwin Morgan is not the only Photographer in the world ( Shocking, I Know! ) and that new ideas are not in short supply. There are more than enough people, places and things to point my camera at and it's up to me to find the inspiration and motivation to make that next great image! If Bjorn in Finland can make an entire portfolio out of artfully Blurred Holga Close-ups of his pet chicken, well then, I guess I should be able to come up with something too. And with High Speed Internet connections in most of our homes, a Photographer / Artist doesn't even have to leave their home to get a fix of Inspirational Imagery. There are more than enough Photo Blogs, Photographers Websites and Online Magazines to fill those empty hours when you're not saving the p

GREAT ARTIST OR JUST GREAT PAINTER?
GREAT ARTIST OR JUST GREAT PAINTER? I think that one of the most important questions you should ask yourself when looking at investing in an artwork should be “is the creator of the artwork a great artist or just a great painter (or sculptor, drawer etc.)??”.  The reason for this question is simple, there are plenty of extremely good painters, drawers, sculptors out there whose artistic careers may never venture beyond what may be considered a hobby.  So with an art market that is driven by many factors other than aesthetics, merely buying an great painting by an amateur or hobbyist artist is very unlikely to make you any money in the future.        If you are purely interested in the aesthetics of an artwork then the term great painter and great artist are interchangeable.  But as soon as you start looking at an artwork from an investment point of view the definition of a great artist has to change because in order to make a good investment decision you need to be a

Painter Tutorial: Lord Of The Rings Characters Portraits
This tutorial explains the technique I used to paint portraits of 2 characters from the Lord Of The Rings movie using Corel Painter. The tutorial highlight: settings for the painbrush tool as used in this image shows you how to obtain a painterly style in your digital paintings using Corel Painter. Step 1 This is a quick painting execise. I picked these characters because I am a big fan of the movie and book. As a reference, I used a frame of the movie’s DVD put on pause. Anyway, this tutorial text is almost  exactly the same as the one in my digital painting tutorial, since the technique is the same. Here it goes: I lookd at the subjects for a minute or two, trying to absorb  it’s shapes, volume, colors and mood. After this brief time,  I started loosely sketching the main shapes with a large brush  with a 60% opacity. I used a limited amount of colors, mostly the predominant colors  in the subject. Very important at this stage, is to get all  the shapes and v

      Dog Portrait Painter Arrested
Ben Wilson, the artist who painted my portrait in the street, came round to see us last night with some beautiful photos that he took of my little portrait. They look fab, and we are going to frame them. he even placed a penny beside the picture to show the scale. Ben is such a kind, gentle man who paints pictures of dogs and children to spread a bit of joy around. So we were very upset when he told us he was arrested and charged for doing a painting last weekend in the City of London near the Millennium Bridge. Ben knows that it is not illegal to paint on chewing gum - he has been doing it for years, but the Police would not accept his explanation. They insisted on arresting him for criminal damage, handcuffed him and took him to a police station. They demanded a DNA sample and when Ben refused they took the sample by force. He has bruises on his arms and chest pains. But it gets worse - they confiscated his paints and his digital camera so at the moment he cannot even paint.

Photoshop & Painter Tutorial : Mad Scientist
This tutorial shows how to draw create a digital illustration of a mad scientist doing a crazy experiment! I was asked to write this tutorial by CGTALK.COM for their articles section (see here). Also, this tutorial was featured on the book Digital Sci-Fi Art: A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Stunning, Futuristic Images by Ilex Press. Notes: This illustration was part of a series of 14 images I did for a trading card game called “ShadowFist“. At the time I was also coloring pages for a comic series, thus getting these pieces done quickly was a priority. I had to lose some sleep, but it was a worthy and fun project. The card’s description called for a classic mad scientist working on some kind of gadget in his lab, with sparks and electricity all around. Given the time constraints and keeping in mind that this piece would be printed at a very small scale, less than 2 inches, I opted for a somewhat simple approach, a few foreground elements with minimal background an

The new Hudson Valley Painter blog banner
I'm moving my blog next week to its own domain name! I'll also be changing blog software. My designer suggested I come up with my own top banner for the blog, so I thought, what better banner for a Hudson Valley Painter than a panoramic scene from one of my favorite painting spots overlooking the Hudson River! I've done tens of paintings from this location. I went through photos this morning of this overview from Boscobel, taken through many years and seasons. The photo I chose from which to paint the banner was one taken on a chilly November day. This is gouache, painted on Fabriano artistico. It's 3x12, which is about the actual size of the banner, so I had to break out the teeny tiny brushes. Next I need to break out the Nikon to get a clearer image of it! Not for sale at this time.

Corel Painter .... So whats all the fuzz about?
If you are completely new, and dont know a thing about Corel Painter. This post is for you.Ok, so you know that almost every 2D digital artist you know uses Adobe Photoshop, but whats the deal with Painter, you may ask. And why am I so hung up on this program!? Here comes the answer =)Some people prefer Painter because it handles very similar to real life art tools. Its so realistic that it gives a nice feel, that every artist new or skilled will enjoy. Photoshop has to me always been a more Photography/graphic design-centric software, and although they've added more advanced characteristics for the drawing/painting people, it is very digital and does not function like real life art tools. It's safe to say a personal preference thing. I prefer Painter for drawing & painting because the way the brushes react is far more dynamic than Photoshop's brushes.Painter has like I said a great resemblence to natural media tools: Pastels looks like a real pastel, watercolor looks like watercolo

I must admit that before I became a true Painter fan, I too used adobe Photoshop. And they way I learned that program, was to watch their "Total training dvds". Then you wont miss a thing, it is professionals that go thru every aspect of the program, and train you up to master all the somewhat difficult techniques. Ok enough about Photoshop already. I meant to say that Corel Painter has ofcourse several professional training dvd`s aswell. And here are you can find them: computer-training-software.com & Official Painter site, with a bunch of high quality tutorials on DVD and in books.

In addition to useful tips, painter news. I will also give you links, pictures, downloadable content, and lots lots more in the future, so stay tuned !! ;)The idea of creating this site, started ofcourse with a great interest for the program. Corel Painter and the newest version Corel Painter IX.5, is in my mind greatly underestimated. Its big brother Photoshop made by adobe, has for a long time dominated the market. And it is sadly still much much more popular than Painter.Therefore you should certainly pay attention, and see for your self how great this digital software really is.

      Painter of Dishonour reviews
Now there's a blast from the past! I thought it was high time we find out about some of the older/obscurer works of Jennifer Ehle. Beware of some negative bits.DouglasHenshall.com has several reviews. Here are the relevant exerpts."Jennifer Ehle is fine indeed as the wife Serafina, voice and bodice a-tremble as she is racked between the demands of love and honour. ""As Serafina, Jennifer Ehle's bosom heaves affectingly apparently possessed by a fear of death as much as dishonour, hardly surprising given that a figure of death in a red mask pops up at all the best parties.""Jennifer Ehle - equipped with strikingly beautiful cheekbones and breasts - is so constrained by Serafina's high nobility that she almost never once sounds natural. ""Jennifer Ehle, Douglas Henshall, Clifford Rose and others resist the temptation to send it all up, which is much to their credit: and John Carlisle goes further. Blonde Painter
A blonde, wanting to earn some money, decided to hire herself out as a handyman-type and started canvassing a wealthy neighborhood. She went to the front door of the first house and asked the owner if he had any jobs for her to do. "Well, you can paint my porch. How much will you charge?" The blonde said, "How about 50 dollars?" The man agreed and told her that the paint and ladders that she might need were in the garage. The man's wife, inside the house, heard the conversation and said to her husband, "Does she realize that the porch goes all the way around the house?" The man replied, "She should. She was standing on the porch." A short time later, the blonde came to the door to collect her money. "You're finished already?" he asked. "Yes," the blonde answered, "and I had paint left over, so I gave it two coats. "Impressed, the man reached in his pocket for the $50. "And by the way," the blonde added, "that's not a Porch, it's a Ferrari."
