New York rock club CBGB got its final gig on Sunday night as Patti Smith played to a packed house. The singer performed a 2 hour set which included covers of The Ramones, The Velvet Underground and Blondie amongst others. Television guitarist Richard Lloyd sat in on numerous songs, including a duet with Smith on his band's "Marquee Moon." Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea also made an apperance on songs such as The Who's "My Generation." At the show's end Smith read a list of names of deceased people who had played the club including Joey, Johnny and Dee Dee Ramone and Johnny Thunders. CBGB officially closes its doors on Oct. 31 after 33 year in business. The closing occurs after a year of disputes with their landlord left the club without a lease. However, I recently got hold of two live recordings of Patti Smith dating back to 1975 and on both occasions she sings this tune, some years before Blondie committed their version to vinyl. I've recently retired and am trying to reshape my sewing to meet new, more casual clothing needs. Alas, no real need to whip up another Barcelona dress or a Brussels skirt. Blouses have always been my nemesis -- both RTW and patterns -- so I am looking for suggestions. My sewing challenges are sloping but wide-ish shoulders, full bust and a bit of a long-waist. Blouses often slide backwards on me which I attribute to too little room in the bust but it could have other causes, I guess. I am considering working on Sandra Betzina's Vogue 7903 as a fitting project. I used this pattern for Shannon G's blouse class awhile back and it fits OK but not perfectly. So, what is your favorite blouse pattern? The recent discussion of decorative stitches reminded me of a project I finished in January which used lots of the built-in stitches in my machine. The fabric was a finicky polyester crinkle as I couldn't find silk duppioni in the time frame I had and the color match was excellent. Sewing it was all right but doing decorative stitches was not fun with gathers and bunching. I tried using both spray starch and spray sizing and that helped but then I tried the Perfect Sew that Palmer/Pletsch distribute and magic happened. It made the fabric like paper and the stitching was painfree! Hooray! I rinsed it out after the stitching and everything stayed as it should. NAYY of course. It was fun to alter some of the stitches by elongating them, sewing every other stitch, or mirroring them. Here's t

I bought a Bernina foot at Puyallup and the price, even with the 20% discount, was stunning. Yes, I bought it anyway. :D I was at my local Bernina dealer yesterday and, because they have older stock, the same foot was $20 cheaper and they are having a 20% off sale next week. Yikes! The owner said that the wholesale price increase on Bernina was 23% so anything new will be even more expensive. So I'm buying any of the feet that I have been thinking about. (not willing to wait for the dollar to rebound) I'm posting this in the spirit of enabling anyone else who might be in the same boat -- hey!
