Coleman 1-Person Sit-On-Top Touring Kayak with Paddle
This has proved to be a nice item for family recreation. I have several of these for group outings. The kids just love them. The kayaks are quite stable, easy to manuever, and a novice can easily handle them.Compared with canoes and hardshell kayaks they are more forgiving, much easier to transport, but quite slow. You can plan on traveling about 1 mile per hour without current. You will not be ab

The Wired Kayaker Roger Williams Paddle

But I did learn a lot on this trip paddling with other people. MY previous videos are basically of me and me alone. So I've got to get to where the action is, get closer for sound and ask more questions.I did get a

I'll be going with the Ten Mile River Watershed Council and Rhode Island Blueways Alliance. They contacted me so that I could go and do a WK podcast with them. SWEET!!

Note to self: Not a good idea to tow paddle boat behind boat.
In the two years we've had our lake cabin, we've yet to spend a Fourth of July there...until now. Our longtime friends (Pastor and Worship Minister and their respective clans) joined us for the weekend and we tipped the scale on making memories. Ice Paddle on Shiawassee River
Hi All; It was a great day for a paddle. Good weather and good participants. 7 of us set out at 11:40 from Waterworks Park in Holly. Brian, Tom, Mary, Pete, Scott, Rodney and myself started on the grand adventure. The River was high, about an inch from flood stage. Lots of waterfowl, turkeys and herons were on the river. The poor ducks were starting to nest and not appreciating the traffic 2 feet away. We found several log jams, and 2 20"diameter trees in last falls tornado zone in the river. With some good humor and a few groans we managed to portage or hop all the obstacle. The 3 railroad tubes posed a challenge for 2 of our crew, or maybe it was they were too hot and wanted a dip to cool off. Watching kayakers swimming was interesting and unexpected. Aside from a challenging stretch the

      Ice Breaker Paddle
Hi All;I'd like to organize a paddle down the Shiawassee From Holly to Fenton, on Sunday the 16th of March. The river will be very high and the water quite brisk. The end of the trip may have some Ice on the Fenton Mill Pond, so we may have a short walk across the ice. I'd like to launch at 11:00 AM from Waterworks Park in Holly. It will be a 3 to 3 1/2 hour paddle. Just in case I'm bringing a chain saw and other emergency gear. Headwaters Trails Inc. is putting a down payment on the future public access point in Oakland County. We have 7 months to raise the next 10K to buy the property. So I will be doing a sales pitch as we pass the property. I'll even throw in some goodies donated by concerned business's. Give me a shout.Douglas Lanyk248-634-4551dslanyk@earthlink. net__._,_.___

Two solo canoes and one white water kayak composed our flotilla. The water was past flood stage and 4" higher than my scouting trip yesterday. The 15-20 mph . breeze in our face was a little distracting at first, but was effectively screened by the trees when we got that far. It was kind of strange paddling over peoples lawns with the river being 3 to 10 times it's normal width. The current was brisk but very manageable with very few tricky spots. Most of the culverts and bridges automatically brought you to the center and spit you

On Monday I went paddling again for the third time in three days. Some of the canoe club were up in Coniston at a camping barn to see the New Year in so we chanced a trip up there in the hope of making a descent of the Crake, which flows out of the lake, with a few of the paddlers staying up there for the festivities. We had a brief chat in the camping barn over a cup of coffee before kitting up and setting off down to where we would put on the lake. The drivers headed off to Spark Bridge to leave two cars before returning to us on the lake to head south for the mouth of the river.Paddling across Lake Coniston to the mouth of the Crake.Waiting for the rest of the group to catch up before setting off down the river. We were paddling with a group of seven. Recently I have come across a few other baits that look pretty similar and are much easier to get your hands on as well maybe a bit cheaper. Not too different then the original chatterbait, when they were impossible to get, many companies duplicated and in some cases came out with superior baits, so here is your chance to possibly be ahead of the curve and find maybe something better :)First off, is the Money Lures Money Minnow, when I first saw it, I thought it was a BassTrix minnow. Jennifer Aniston and her BFF, Courtney Cox, have ... in fact, they recently broke away for some stand up paddle surfing down in the Hawaiian Islands. Stand up paddle surfing is an aspect of surfing that has seen a recent resurgence, and with good reason -- it's a lot harder than it looks (and more fun.) For those not familiar with the sport, it entails standing on a large longboard and propelling yourself with essentially a canoe paddle. It is a sport practiced at one time by photographers who didn't want to get wet while photographing other surfers and tourists riding the waves. Recently,

Arkanoid DS anounced with special paddle controller for GBA slot
Arkanoid, the Breakout-clone from 1986, is getting a new Nintendo DS version. Taito announced in the latest issue of the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu that the game (Arkanoid DS screenshots scan) will include a special Arcade paddle controller called the “Battle Controller.” As you can see from the picture above the paddle comes in four colors (white, green, black, pink) to match your DS Lite’s color. The paddle is a small controller attachment that slots into the GameBoy Advance port at the bottom of the DS. It’s such a perfect fit, it’s hard to believe this is the first time a developer thought of it. The action game has a release date in Japan on December 6th, 2007. If this doesn’t get a worldwide release, we’ll be sure to point you to an online import shop that does ship worldwide, since the DS is region-free & won’t need any translation work to be enjoyed. — Via Neogaf

A Paddle Down Otter Creek and Memory Lane
In McClellanville just across Jeremy Creek from the town boat landing is a small tidal creek named Otter Creek.  On a recent kayak trip, I didn’t encounter any otter, but I did see nature at its best while paddling through this area now known as Mouzon’s Bluff. I start my trek as I entered Otter Creek, only 10 feet wide at its mouth.  Snails work their way up blades of marsh grass slowly cleaning them as they slide.  Small minnows and shrimp jump and splash as I quietly wisp through the water.  In the marsh grass near the shore, I catch a glimpse of a tail, of what I am sure is a good sized spot-tail bass, swoosh off into the cloudy depth below.  I continue my journey as the creek widens to about 30 to 40 feet  and bends to the right and then the left. I curiously wonder if I might encounter an alligator, which prefer brackish water but will travel in the creeks on rare occasions. Bounded by marsh grass on both sides; palm

      My Paddle
I bought my paddle a few years ago from Kim at Cape Cod Kayak. I was working there at the time so I got a little discount on it and that paddle has been so worth the money spent. When you paddle or kayak, really the two words are interchangeable when I go out on the water, your paddle is something that you are going to be connected to the entire time you are out. And if you have a paddle that is heavy then you are going to tire sooner than later. I originally had an EMS paddle that weighed a ton. I bought it when I didn't really know enough about the sport to make an informed decision. I even paddled without feathering the blades. Just muscling my way across the water, no finesse no style just brute bull headed force. Now I have a Swift Paddle. Swift Paddles are sold by Eddyline at your local kayak shop. I'll talk about Eddyline in a later post because they make some fantastic boats. Swift paddles are well made and constructed of "Modulus" composite or all graphite construction. The s

      Paddle on Shiawassee -- Jan 4, 2007
On Thursday morning Doug Lanyk and I decided to paddle the 7 miles from Holly to Fenton along the Shiawassee River. The weather was a mix of clouds and sun with a little wind mixed in. Upon arrival at the put in next to WaterWorks Park in Holly we ran into 2 other kayakers ready to go. They had already staged their shuttle vehicle at Strom Park in Fenton. The bridge construction is underway and hopefully will be completed in time for the 2007 race. The bridge will be a huge help allowing people to easily launch canoes and kayaks from a little peninsula in the river. The Shiawassee has a large amount of marsh and wetlands that act as a sponge, moderating fluctuations in water levels. The beaver dams add another interesting component as the river finds new ways of winding between the trees. The full 7 miles of river is open and easily navigated with the exception of a few spots where a tree or two had fallen. We didn't have to portage at all on Thursday. A wonderfull day on the ri

      A mid-week Paddle
Well I haven't been out on a proper river run for a long time, so last night I made plans with my Dad to run the Rothay the following day seen as we were both on holiday. We tried a couple of people to see if they were up for the paddle but there was little interest. So Tuesday saw three of us, my parents and myself, heading north to the Lake District and Ambleside. We pulled into the car park at Waterhead with blue skies overhead and a crisp morning air gently blowing. It was going to be a nice day. Canoeing gear was pulled out of the car and put on before we left the car park and headed through Ambleside, and along the edges of Rydal Water and Grasmere. The trip began on a small beach on the shores of Grasmere. To reach the beach involves lowering the boats over a very high wall straight from the roadside. When we usually do this trip we get a couple of car horns tooted at us, but there was nothing of the sort today, there was just another group getting on the water. We got

Rumor Mill: New DSG Paddle Shift on… Sebring Diesel
Prowler-mania, Demonology; what's up with Chrysler's automotive tastes these days? What Car (indeed) reports that the foul Chrysler Sebring diesel (and we're not talking about emissions here) may be the first Chrysler product blessed with a Dual-Sequential Gearbox (DSG). As DSG is Borg Warner's name for Volkswagen's sublime paddle shifter, the magazine is hedging its bets regarding sourcing: "It is not yet clear if the dual-clutch transmission is Chrysler's own, if it has been developed with former sister company Mercedes, or if it is from another manufacturer - the Sebring's 2.0-litre diesel engine is already sourced from Volkswagen." And while they're at it, What Car says the gearbox might spread to other Chrysler products. Funny thing is, I can't think of a single Chrysler product that really deserves needs it... Viper? Do they still make that?

New Ford Powershift Paddle Shift Not So Hot?
AutoExpress offers a "review" (in the Motor trend sense of the word) of the European Focus, complete with Ford's new dual clutch gearbox. Parsing AutoExpress' usual PR puffery, it's not sounding amazing. Whereas VW's DSG is a viable alternative to a manual transmission-- it accelerates faster than rowing your own and returns even better mileage than the stick-- Ford's s
