      An Outsider
I attended a wedding this weekend. My little cousin got married and it was a lovely event. His aunts and uncles and grandfather made the drive to Maryland from South Carolina for the nuptials. His aunts and uncles are my cousins and his grandfather is my aunts husband. It was great seeing all of them since I hadn't seen them in about 7 years or so since my aunts death. Although I was looking forwa

Johan Jonsson's mixed media sculptures are fascinating reuse examples combining raw industrial materials such as metal, wood and fabrics, tar and leather with welding filler, silicone, rust

Outlander is no more an outsider
The Mitsubishi Outlander is one of the much awaited SUV’s in 2008. The company has already upped its preparations to welcome the beast to India. They have now released the prices of the SUV. The prices will start from Rs 15.5 lakh to Rs 16 lakh. So all those who wanted to take home the ‘tough guy’ can now make arrangements for finances. Set to hit the roads in India in August, the muscular SUV will take upon existing big players like the Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Ford Endeavour and Chevrolet Captiva. Pitched against them Outlander will be one of the cheapest SUV’s to buy. But it will have more sophisticated features than any SUV has, so far. It will come with a 2.4L MIVEC petrol engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and paddle shifters

      Life from an Outsider’s Perspective:
My advice to anyone thinking of moving to a foreign land is to start thinking of yourself as an immigrant not just an expatriate, accept the local culture for what it is, try your HARDEST to learn the language and use it wherever possible. Don’t make the minimum effort - go for maximum effort! Think [...]

      'The Outsider' by Albert Camus
The hero of the novel 'The Outsider', Meursault is a typical example of an absurd character. His story parallels the story of Sisyphus - stripped of all illusions, extracts a grim acceptance of life from death and defeat, he deems life worth living after all he'd had. This novel without hope, even against hope, ends on a note of hope and promise. When Meursault is condemned to death, he considers the question of beginning life afresh (here Camus is illustrating the absurdity through the myth of Sisyphus). In a letter Camus wrote: "A man's greatness lies more in what he keeps to himself than in what he says." Meursault is an example of this great silence. During the trial one of the witnesses says about him: "Meursault didn't waste words."Camus writes about Meursault's feelings at the end of the novel:"I realized that I'd been happy, and that I was still happy. For the final consummation and for me to feel less lonely, my last wish was that there should be a crowd of spectators at

      An Outsider's Perspective
A conversation from the movie K-PAX.Mark: You have no laws?Prot: No laws, no lawyers.Mark: How do you know right from wrong?Prot: Every being in the universe knows right from wrong, Mark.Mark: But what if someone did do something wrong...committed murder or a rape, how would you punish them?Prot: Let me tell you something Mark. You humans, most of you, subscribe to this policy of an eye for an eye, a life for a life, which is known throughout the universe for its stupidity. Even your Buddha and your Christ had quite a different vision, but nobody's paid much attention to them, not even the Buddhists or the Christians. You humans...sometimes it's hard to imagine how you've made it this far.

      Harper the outsider
At this present moment, Canada's Prime minister Stephen Harper is certainly wishing to have a majority government to promulgate the bill projects that he advocates. Unfortunately, with his stubbornness, he doesn't notice that he's ideologically at odds with most Canadians.Obviously, Stephen Harper wants to propose a parliamentary vote on the legitimacy of same-sex marriages. Given the political configuration that prevails in the House of Commons, the Conservatives are going to face a humiliating defeat, because they form a minority government. Our Prime minister doesn't understand that most Canadians consider that the debate on the rights of homosexual people is history. In fact, most Canadians are just fed up to hear Harper's discourse that conceals a religious perspective. As time goes by, it becomes very clear that Stephen Harper's political party didn't succeed to grow up, ideologically speaking. It's true that being in politics means making choices. Nonetheless, Stephen Har

      Outsider Art - Take 2
If you had no idea who painted this picture, would you consider it junk, the product of an unlearned and unskilled artist? Would you feel differently were I to tell you that it is in fact the work of none other than Henri Mattisse? I assure you that it is a Mattisse, a piece entitled “Red Studio”. This brings me to the subject and the point of my article - a term with which I only recently became acquainted in my search for definitions of art that doesn't quite fit the norm. I stumbled upon the use of "Outsider Art", a term used when referring to untutored artists. I recently referred to the subject of critics in this blog and it seemed to me that the description was often used by them in a derogatory way to define the work of an artist who has no formal training. Here is an example of artist Glen Brady’s work which is termed as “outsider art”. I came across Glen’s work at Outsiderart.info and engaged in an exchange of emails with the very hel
