Everyone took notice, when Whoopi Goldgerg became emotional Monday on The View while discussing the fact that she was omitted from the montage of hosts during the Academy Awards broadcast. Whoopi announced on The View today that Gil Cates the shows producer called her and said "he made an oversight, pure and simple. You know I love you ... It was a mistake, and I'm sorry I didn't catch it." It is always big of someone to admit a mistake, I'm just not buying that it was a mistake. I seriously doubt there were many black women with dread locks on the Oscar's footage, she is kinda hard to miss in a sea of white folks. I think that Whoopi is on a top rated daytime show, and showed that she was really upset by the snubb. With the strong reactions and support she got from her fans, I think the
Last night I watched a re-run of the 80th Academy Awards. The event was hosted by Jon Stewart. This is his second time to host the Oscars but I found his hosting quite stiff. I’ve never been really a fan of his, actually. Has Conan O’Brian hosted the Academy Awards yet?Anyway, the red carpet is an important aspect of the Academy awards. This is where superstars, mediocre stars and wannabe stars strut for the press. This is the event where designers fall all over nominees to wear their creations. I love Helen Miren’s gown best. There was a flashback of all the films that won the best picture award. Out of the 79 films that won I saw about 35. From these awardees, my favorites are: Gone with the Wind (1939, no! I wasn’t alive back then), West Side Story (1961), My Fair Lady (1964), T
Becoming a mother may not be the only change Jessica Alba’s body has gone through recently. The Academy Awards is an evening often filled with long, boring and uninspired speeches. In 2008, however, the crop of speeches was better than average. Here are five tips garnered from the evening’s ceremonies. And would you know it, the tips spell out OSCAR.

Did Atonement win the Academy Award? Or did the crime thriller No Country for Old Men swipe the Oscar? We now have all the answers from February 24 when this year’s winners were revealed. While we were all hoping our favourites would win the industry’s most sought-after awards, that wasn’t always the case. By the [...]
Yes, it's that time of year again, I guess. I can't stand the Academy Awards. What a load of pretentious crap. But hey, that's no reason for me not to capitalize on the popularity of the Oscars for my own purposes. In case you're new here, that's me rubbing shoulders with Frank Coppola, Marty Scorsese and a couple other blokes. Submit your captions in the comments. I'll post the top 10 on Tuesday. And I'll be back on Monday with a brand new post -- not to mention the second brilliant issue of the Clay Pigeon. Have a pleasant weekend.Listed on humor-blogs.com.

She put her baby bump on display at Saturday's Film Independent's Spirit Awards. And even though Angelina Jolie didn't actually attend Sunday's Academy Awards, her pregnancy still got a nod from host Jon Stewart. During a short interlude, the Daily Show star teased about all the expectant actresses in attendance – referencing Jessica Alba and Cate Blanchett – and then announced (as if he were presenting an award), "the baby goes to ... Angelina Jolie!" Then, the funnyman quipped, "Obviously Angelina couldn't be with us tonight. It's tough getting 17 babysitters on Oscar night."– Brian Orloff

Don't ask how, but somehow I got roped into going to this Oscar party in 3 hours... This party has been made fun of by moi and all friends since I can remember, I bunch of people 500miles from LA spending a bunch of money to eat the same food they have at every party, and see all the same people. At least its for charity.(hopefully not another dog park or I am bringing home the silverware.) So here I am sitting in my robe waiting for my hair to full be moisturized so I can straighten the hell out of it.So let me tell you about the gist of this party. All the rich people in town(old people) and everyone from the upcoming international film festival gets together at the Hilton and watches the Oscars and eats. Then pretending as if they weren't going to donate the money anyway, they auction o

As always there were many glamorous make-up looks making their way down the red carpet on Sunday, but here's my two favourites of the evening... First of all Jessica Alba, glowing dewy skin matched with smoky eyes & glossy lips!Katherine Heigl opted for a more vintage style with a certain 'Marilyn' finish to it, incredibly striking with this season's most popular red carpet lipstick, bright 'coral' (sported by a few celebs earlier at the Brits & Baftas), definitely a must have colour for your Saturday night make-up bag this season! There was no saucy saunter down the red carpet, but Nintendo's casual darling Wii Sports did manage to surprise gamers with a guest-spot at the 2008 Academy Awards. In one of the night's many gags, host Jon Stewart gets caught off guard when the show returns from commercial break, to find him using one of the event's gigantic projection screens to play a quick round of Wii Tennis. The entire segment lasts only thirty seconds, but it's chuckle-worthy, to be sure. If you watched the recent 80th Academy Awards, you would've noticed that black and red are definitely the most outstanding colors among the guests. A sea of both colors is easily visible starting from the red carpet. Excluding the male stars, black was one of the prominent gown colors that night: And now, for the ladies in red: Who do you think pulled the black and red gown the best? Who flopped it?
Heidi Klum was definitly the best dressed celebrity on the red carpet last night.
The supermodel stunner was looking particularly amazing due to her Galliano design.

The red carpet season continues with the 80th Annual Acadamy Awards ceremony last night in Hollywood. Although the whole night was a civlised (if not slightly dull) affair, with no major surprises, hiccups or the like - there was still some hot (and not so hot) fashion on the red carpet to contemplate. Some of my personal favourites this year included Nicole Kidman in a gorgeous black Balenciaga dress & Heidi Klum who wore a show stopping bespoke red gown made by John Galliano. I was also a big fan of Jennifer Hudsons dress this year, a full length white beaded number by Roberto Cavalli, which showed her voluptuous figure at its best. My favourite by far, however, was actress Kelly Preston. She appeared on the red carpet with husband John Travolta, wearing a gorgeous strapless Roberto C

Yes, I watched the Oscars last night, and yes I got emotional at a few acceptance speeches (I'm sorry, I can't help it!).But some of the tears were also shed at the lack of anything "Wow!" on the red carpet...Shall we?RedRedRedBoringNuttyThe only excitement came from the fact that all the "big winners" were not expecting to win, and you know this because they were all dressed horribly! This year was, in fact, the year of: "If I knew I was going to win, I would have dressed better!"Tilda SwintonVery interesting woman, but a little too obsessed with George Clooney, and I guess this was her tribute to his Batman.Diablo CodyNominated or not, who wears this to the Oscars? The only way you can wear something like this and pull it off, is if you're cool and unapologetic about it. These celebs rocked the red carpet last night in their stunning outfits.
Anne Hathaway looked stunning in her Marchesa rosette-trimmed gown and 10-carat drop earrings from Harry Winston, worth over one million dollars.
Heidi Klum was a red carpet knockout in this red John Galliano couture gown. Her earrings, rings and cuff were from the Heidi Klum Collection for Mouawad.

There were no big surprises at the 80th Academy Awards, although some minor shockers came in the female categories, as French actress Marion Cotillard took home Best Actress for La Vie En Rose, while Brit Tilda Swinton got Best Supporting Actress for her role in Michael Clayton. In fact, all four of the acting awards went to Europeans this year, as Daniel Day-Lewis captured his much-expected Best Actor Oscar for There Will Be Blood, and Spaniard Javier Bardem won Best Supporting Actor for No Country For Old Men.Bardem’s trophy was only one of many for Joel and Ethan Coen’s dark film, as No Country For Old Men also went home with Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. As for the Oscar ceremony itself, second-time host Jon Stewart seemed much more comfortable

Oscars didn't disappoint.Lots of old Hollywood glamour, including big and blingy jewelry - and this time also as hair pins, like the one million dollar hair pin Kimora Lee Simmons was wearing. Diamonds were also covering stunning Nicole Kidman, whose 1,399-carat diamond L'Wren Scott necklace was drawing attention from her baby bump. Blue was the color at SAG Awards, but red was the color of the dresses at the 2008 Oscars. There is something more than just Hollywood glamour in the red dresses. The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute's The Heart Truth campaign is raising awareness for women's heart disease with a fashionable symbol - a red dress. Heidi Klum showed at the Oscars that her heart is in the right spot - she joined The Heart Truth campaign to Raise Awareness of Women's Heart

No Zumba stuff tonight. No vegan stuff. No fitness, no food questions. Just random Acadamy Award thoughts because OMG! The Oscars are ON!!!Remember a few years ago there were a lot of pregnant actresses and they all seemed to embrace their pregnant beautiful bodies? Where did that go? Everyone is all covered up!OMG I have never seen Jennifer Hudson look SO beautful! That dress looks like it was made for her!!I could NOT be happier about that Irish couple won for best song. I noticed a lot of the "messy-chic" hairstyles on women this year at the Oscars - in some cases it works:...and sometimes not so much:She looks like a man... well. Just keeping up with the status quo I suppose. Beautiful jewelry on Mrs. Garner's part, though.
Here's just a little Oscar-night preview, with information on a few British nominees. I can't wait to see what the swag bags hold this year :)For more information on the Academy Awards, check out their youtube channel.
Varda this shizzle. At the pre-Oscars party at Soho House, LA, Friday, the stars had been hitting the house speciality: the elixir of yoot. Madge looks amazingly FRESH for a woman nearing fifty (but we know one tug on the label at the base of the wig and it all deflates)Has Ashton stepped out with Rumer by mistake? Demi is looking ten years younger than her high school fella.Matthew Perry gave the elixir a miss this year...Helen couldn't make it but, thoughtfully, sent a piece of paper instead.

And it's for free, including free drinks and snacks :)Unfortunately all 3 cinemas in Prague's Palace Cinemas are already full. As referenced in a previous post, I was sorely disappointed in the Golden Globes this year. My first award-season with HD and I was denied being able to criticize celebrities. Very disappointing. But today is not only "hump day," it's when I really started to get excited for the Oscars, because it's only a few days away! People criticize how "self congratulatory" awards are, but for some of us living in the tundra of the Midwest right now, it's an escape to glamorous Hollywood with couture dresses and insane jewelry that we could only hope to wear one day. I like daydreaming that it's me walking down the red carpet, getting mind-numbing questions from Ryan Seacrest and looking altogether fabulous. Jon Stewart is crashing to get ready for the big event, and I am beyond excited that he's back
Después de tres meses de intensas negociaciones y desencuentros, el acuerdo más esperado se ha concretado en las últimas horas. The prestigious 2008 Spirit Awards, precursor to the Oscars, have been announced. And much to Bollywood's surprise, among the independent films and their makers from across the world in line for this honour, is our Irrfan Khan!Irrfan has been nominated for his performance as Tabu's silently progressive husband in The Namesake. Now the buzz is that Irrfan will also be nominated for an Oscar!"Mira Nair got the Gotham Award and I was there to watch this historic moment. Barely 24 hours later comes this announcement about me. The Spirit Awards to me is every bit as prestigious as the Oscars. But unlike the Oscars, they are totally independent and based entirely on merit rather than lobbying. I'm honoured to be alongside Don Cheadle, Frank Langella and Philip Seymour Hoffman (all nominated in the Best Actor category)."
Everybody seems to like Star Wars, both men and women, old and young, and everyone in between. It has left its mark on modern pop culture and completely revolutionized the film industry. But have you ever wondered how well it has been received by movie critics? More specifically, the Academy Awards? I’ve made a list of all the Oscars the six Star Wars movies have won or at least been nominated for, starting with 1977’s A New Hope. Awards won are listed in bold.Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)- Best Art Direction -- John Barry, Norman Reynolds, Leslie Dilley, Roger Christian- Best Costume Design -- John Mollo- Best Film Editing -- Paul Hirsch, Marcia Lucas, Richard Chew- Best Original Score -- John Williams- Best Visual Effects -- Industrial Light & Magic: Richard Edlund, John Stears, John Dykstra, Grant McCune, Robert Blalack- Special Achievement Award (Sound Effects) -– Ben Burtt- Best Supporting Actor -- Alec Guiness (Obi-Wan Kenobi)- Best Writing -- George Lucas- Be

A trend toward bejeweled and ornamented dresses made this a less than stellar year for fine jewelry at the Oscars. The main jewelry trend was for large diamond cuffs and stacked diamond bangles. Dresses were often strapless, which made the lack of necklaces even more striking. One prominent necklace, the Cartier brooch worn as a pendant by Rachel Weisz, clashed with her ornamented dress, drawing criticism from the “style experts” assessing red carpet looks (although not as much as the strange short golden jacket sported by Jennifer Hudson that she wisely took off before the ceremony). Neutral, bronze, and blush gowns dominated. The trend for rose cut diamonds and blackened metal seen at the Golden Globes continued. Gwyneth Paltrow had one of the most successful looks, with Fred Leighton rose-cut chandelier earrings visible with her sleek hair wrapped over one shoulder. By Gail LeinoThe retirement party is at the opposite end of the spectrum from the graduation party. One celebrates the beginning of one’s working life while the retirement party symbolizes the end of the working life and hopefully more time to spend on ones hobbies. The person of honor at the retirement party may enjoy movies. I once heard about a retired man who made it his hobby to see every single movie that came out in the theaters. This equaled a lot of time and money spent at the box office each week. The retiree may not be as dedicated to the movie industry but if they are still big movie fans you can throw them an Oscar themed retirement party.Have a plastic version of the Academy Award made up with the retirees name on it and give it to them at the party. You can call it the lifetime achievement award. Other gifts can be autographed pictures of movie stars or everyone can chip in to get the retiree a gift card to the local movie theater so they can start seeing lots of movies

It's a shame Natalie Maines was not ready to make nice with her stylist; if she had, she might have avoided this red plague. The top makes her look so wide and enormous that she almost appears to be standing on only one foot -- as if she had actually been wearing the largest, most ruffled trousers on the planet, until a very aggressive man named King Arthur came along on his phantom horse and

Well, another Oscar ceremony has come and gone, and instead of providing a more traditional report on the awards, we’d thought we’d pass along these thoughts about Oscar night:The Good:- Martin Scorsese finally wins a Best Director Oscar, and gets the prize for Best Picture of the Year as well, for The Departed.- Happy Feet beats Cars for Best Picture. Neither were memorable, but it’s nice to see the Pixar streak end.- Jennifer Hudson’s well-deserved Best Supporting Actress win for Dreamgirls proves that she’s no fluke, but a genuine new talent. The Bad:- Host Ellen DeGeneres falls flat. She’s unfunny, shows no spontaneity, and makes David Letterman’s Oscar debacle of a few years ago pale in comparison.- Alan Arkin steals the Best Supporting Actor Oscar from Eddie Murphy. Murphy is so mad he leaves the show early. Beverly Hills Cop 4 should have Axel Foley investigating this crime.- Babel wins Best Original Score, despite there being nothing original about it – the music
(ver 5 videos)

Well thanks to the amazing TVU player we were still able to see the Oscar show and let me first say that for the best night out you should bring friends, a bottle of champagne, ben & jerrys icecream and all have a bet. It truly makes things fun and even the more tedious categories interesting since each wrong prediction could mean a defeat or a win (in our case the prize was a bottle of champagne and for the record: I won)As far as the fashion police goes: I truly missed the real cute women this year (natalie portman?), so I have to say the elder women looked sometimes better than the younger generation. Helen Mirren is still looking strong at 60. Dress awards go imho to Nicole Kidman (although I woulda cut that neck noose), Helen Mirren and Reese Witherspoon. Worst choices this year wo
An Inconvenient Truth took home the Oscar for Best Documentary at last night's 79th Annual Academy Awards. The award was received by director Davis Geenheim and producers Lawrence Bender, Laurie David and Scott Burns - but the winners immediately handed the gold statuette to Al Gore, whose vision and drive has propelled the film and the issue of global warming into the forefront of public consciousness.Onstage, Guggenheim handed the Oscar to Gore, who said, "People all over the world - we need to solve the climate crisis. It's not a political issue. It's a moral issue. We have everything that we need to get started with the possible exception of the will to act. That's a renewable resource. Let's renew it."In total, the film received two Academy Awards with Melissa Ethridge receiving the Best Original Song award for "I Need To Wake Up," the movie's theme song.
