Osaka is the main metropolis of the Kansai region, and its inhabitants exhibit a strong rivalry towards the Kanto region. With the upcoming crucial games against Gamba Osaka for Melbourne Victory in the Asian Champions League I decided to find out more about our opposition. So thanks to Mike Tuckerman, an Australian who lives in Japan and a mad Shimizu S-Pulse fan, who has provided some insight into Gamba Osaka. His blog is also worth checking out if you are a fan of the J-League as well.1. How would you describe Gamba Osaka's style of play? What are their strengths and weaknesses? For the past few years Gamba have been renowned as one of the most attacking sides in Japanese football. Certainly Akira Nishino is a coach who prefers free-flowing, attractive football and he has fielded a 4-3-3 formation for Gamba's last couple of league games. The problem for the Osakans is confidence. That attacking style hasn'

The Osaka Aquarium is without a doubt one of the best aquariums I have ever seen. The location on Osaka Bay is stunning. Even without the aquarium it would be a great place to watch ships coming and going. Just next to the aquarium an antique looking ship named Santa Maria takes tourists on sightseeing trips around the bay. Also, there is another Ferris Wheel nearby. The Japanese must love Ferris Wheels. I have seen more of them around the bay when I am flying and one is under construction near my hotel. The aquarium itself was awesome. I spent quite awhile going through it. There was a lot to see, with marine life from around the world. I took a lot of good video and pictures with my camera. Check this one out.

The urban equivalent of the Elephant Man, OSAKA, Japan’s third largest city after Tokyo and Yokohama, yearns to be loved despite its ugliness. It may well lack the pockets of beauty and refinement found in nearby Kyoto , but beyond the unrelenting concrete cityscape, Osaka is a vibrant metropolis, inhabited by famously easy-going citizens with a taste for the good things in life.
The handsomely renovated castle, Osaka-jo, dominates Osaka’s heart just as it did centuries ago, while the venerable Shitenno-ji and Sumiyoshi Taisha hark back to the city’s past importance as a religious centre. In contrast, bizarre modern buildings, such as the spaceship-like Osaka Dome sports stadium and the fantastic aquarium at the Tempozan Harbour Village, thrust forth from the urban sprawl like shiny gems; they have recently been joined by a large-scale theme park, Universal Studios Japan.
But what is really special about Osaka is its people, who speak one of Japan’s more earth
Craig Mottram was one of the "hot" (excuse the pun) favourites for the Men's 5000m final at the recent IAAF World Championships in Athletics. As we all know by now, he finished 13th out of a field of 14, who ran the race in the slowest time in Championship history! Hardly the performance of a pre-race favourite. In the immediate aftermath of that race, Mottram was reported as "struggling to find the reasons", saying only that he was "gutted". A week has now passed, and Mottram's coach is suggesting that it was Mottram's failure to adapt to the heat that was responsible for the disastrous performance.Nic Bideau, who has coached Mottram for eight years, was of the opinion that Mottram should have finished second at worst in that race. In an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, he stated that "He just couldn't run. He didn't deal with the conditions well."Apparently, Mottram did not travel to Osaka in the weeks leading up to the race to adapt to the hotter conditions. In a p
Running from August 24 until September 2nd, the annual track and field world championships are now taking place in Osaka. Japan is playing host for the second time, the first being in Tokyo in 1991. This is the premier track and field event in the run up to next summer’s Beijing Olympic games.Conditions should be similar, too, which is one of many reasons the best have come to Osaka in late August. Because of the heat, events are being held in the early morning hours and then at night. In early events, Tyson Gay took honors in the men’s 100 meter dash, coming from behind to defeat Asafa Powell and Derrick Atkins. In the women’s 100, 47-year-old wonder Merlene Ottey may finally have lost in her race against age itself. She is the most decorated athlete in world championship history. However, in spite of a poor showing in Osaka, she says that she still plans on training for and participating in the Olympics. The home side has yet to win a medal. One of Japan’s sho
The 2007 IAAF World Championships in Athletics 2007 have started in Osaka Japan and already Jamaica has been up front and getting lots of attention. Im chronologically confused just blogging about it so for now Ill just work with Jamaica time ^_^. Tomorrow will be even bigger than today with more on track Jamaica action especially from the ladies .I cant wait.

Now fashionable, hip, and rose-scented, Utsubo Koen (Park) is a small slice of green mixed with European café culture right in the heart of urban Osaka. However, it wasn’t always so.The park, which is in Nishi-ku close to Honmachi Station on the Yotsubashi subway line or Awaza Station on the Chuo subway line, was in the early part of the 20th century the only fish market in Osaka. With the opening in 1931 of the Osaka Central Market, the fish market at Utsubo soon closed due to the competition. During the Second World War, the entire area was completely destroyed by a US Air Force carpet-bombing campaign. Following the War, it served as an airport for small aircraft for US occupying forces. In the 1990s, as it was slowly becoming trendy—thanks in part to the planting of the rose garden—it also became a magnet for homeless. The two camps clashed periodically, culminating with the forced eviction of the park’s 20-30 residents in the early hours of January 30, 2006.
Football, Cricket and Athletics are the top 3 sports in Jamaica, but lately the Reggae Boys have been struggling, their most recent in a string of defeats coming by the hands (or should I say feet?) of the Asian nation Vietnam. Cricket isn't in a much better state either, with a very low quality regional tournament and a regional West Indian team who can't even beat a English club side in a 20/20 match. At least one of the top 3 sports keeps Jamaica's head high, and continues to do so for decades on end athletics.
The next major athletics championship will be taking place in Osaka Japan from August 25, 2007 - September 2, 2007. I don't think it is wrong to say that the main competition to Jamaica in athletics is none other than the US of A, it's not that no other countries are competitive but I am sure that over the years it is obvious that Jamaica and USA are big rivals especially in the sprints. The Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association (JAAA) National Senior Championships was

The Osaka World Trade Center is the centerpiece of the 1990s Bay Area development at Osaka Port on the reclaimed island of Sakishima. The 252m-tall building is one of the highest buildings in Japan. We left early in the morning to Mt. Koya. It took about 2 1/2 hours to arrive at the mountain. As we took the train to the temples, we passed rainforest type plants, towering cedars, and off & on fog banks. The area was very scenic to say the least. Once we arrived in Koya-san, we check in to the temple, Haryo-in. In the town, there were temples every twenty feet, gardens every city block, and cars driving by only once every 10 minutes (the bus). It was one of the quietest moments of my life. After a stroll through town, we headed back to the temple for our vegetarian dinner. I was suprised to see that my taste buds enjoyed the tofu, cabbage, and rice so much. We were served a similar meal for breakfast, which pleased my mouth just as much. Before eating breakfast though, we attend
Aside from the expensive ($1K+!?!) round trip ticket, the trip was fairly routine.
I wanted to go to Akihabara but seeing that the fare was already taken from my own wallet, I doubt I’d survive my first hour there. Why? Akihabara is considered Otaku heaven with the best stores if you’re searching for anime merchandise. Software, manga, anime titles and even adult items (no I won’t go into detail), you name it, it’s there.
Since Akihabara is simply out of the question, we went for the next best thing: Nipponbashi in Osaka. There was only one store that I really wanted to see there and the picture below should make clear. When I saw it, I almost broke into tears.
Aptly named Osaka Gundams, the store carries everything that a Gundam lover would want. I personally can’t describe the feeling after setting foot in the building but to put it simply, I was like a child released into a giant sandbox. ^^ I saw many Gundam kits that I really wish to take home
