      Hockey Ornaments
History of Hockey: Throughout history people have played games involving a curved stick and a ball. There are drawings and depictions of such events in ancient Egypt, Greece and in the Middle ages in Europe. There is even evidence of people playing hockey or stick and ball like games on the ice in sixteenth century Europe. And of course as immigrants came to the Americas, they brought with them ma

Hair Ornaments are Back in Fashion
By: linda This summer, fashion accessories have gone to our heads, literally. Hair ornamentation is everywhere from jewelry encrusted headbands to sparkling butterflies to silky flowers- the sky’s the limit. We tend to like the simpler approach to hair decoration like Hilary Swank’s diamond covered flower pin at this year’s Golden Globes. With that being said, we’re a little obsessed with

Hair Ornaments are Back in Fashion
Almost every parent probably thinks their little girl looks especially adorable when she has cute fashion accessories in her hair. When my daughter was a baby, I'd pull a tuft of hair up on top of her head (like Pebbles from the Flintstones cartoon) and put a baby barrette around it, which always evoked a chorus of "Aaah"'s, even from strangers. Anyway, my question to you today is whether you ever wear hair ornaments, or if you think they're only for young girls and teens. It would be rare to see a 45 year old woman with a ponytail sporting a ribbon-much less a bow-but there is an astounding array of jeweled hair clips and combs that are lovely when used to pull or hold back hair. Once, for a fancy event, I used a comb decorated with pearls to pull back the hair on just one side, and actua

Bed Side Chest with Double Joy Ornaments
View More Works by This Master The beauty of Korean traditional wooden furniture lies in the grain of the wood from which it is made. For Korean Master Carpenter specialized in making this type of furnishings, no artificial beauty can exceed the loveliness of what is natural. They prefer highlighting the material’s natural patterns and forms, rather than adding artificial ornaments or colors. They shun metal nails because these ‘alien’ objects can damage the wood's beauty borne from the landscape, and instead, fit the parts of the work together by making grooves and holes. The result of such meticulous methods is a fine piece of furniture, in which the dynamic, elegant lines and forms of nature are kept intact. Christmas Tree Ornaments
One of the many things I love about the Christmas Season is viewing our collection of Christmas tree ornaments. These ornaments are diverse, and I've gathered them from all around the world at various times, so our Christmas tree is EXTREMELY eclectic. And that's the way I like it!Others have gifted us ornaments through the years as well--and I treasure these ones! We have a most unusual Christmas tree with many memories hanging from it. If these ornaments could talk, they'd have some fabulous adventures and stories to share. We have ornaments from the Canadian Rockies, Bali, Thailand, Hopi-land, Hawaii (naturally!), France, England, Spain, Portugal, and more. We have dolphins with Christmas hats....mermaids, angels galore....teddybears...elves...faeries...stars....turtles...and football figurines. Many of these items are hand-crafted. How about you? Do you have a themed tree or an eclectic ornament collection as we do?

CHRISTMAS TREE HANGING COOKIE ORNAMENTS...Edible & Festive!
"Christmas Cheer Recipe-Combine loads of good wishes, heartfuls of love and armfuls of hugs, sprinkle with laughter and garnish with mistletoe, top off with presents. Serves everyone!" Author Unknown CHRISTMAS TREE ORNAMENT COOKIES......With Christmas almost here, here are a set of cookie Christmas tree ornaments...edible, colourful and festive. They can be made with an assortment of Christmas cookie cutters, topped with coloured sugar crystals, sprinkles &/or M 'n' M's . Do remember to make a hole on top of each cookie before baking; also, they need to be handled delicately whilst threading the ribbon. SPIRIT OF THE SEASON...The recipe for the sugar cookies is my basic sugar cookies recipe that can be found here. The M 'n' M's are put on the cookie prior to baking. The coloured sugar crystals, sprinkles & dragees are sprinkled onto an icing drizzled onto the cookie after it is baked. I make the icing by combining castor sugar with water to get a thick consistency. Some peo

Keyrings as Christmas ornaments work for me.
We decorated the Christmas tree yesterday, TWICE (That's an entire blog post by itself so I'll have to keep you wondering why we had to do it twice!).When you're on vacation, there are always shops selling Christmas ornaments (even in the middle of July) for way too much money. I love getting Christmas ornaments to remember special family times though. So, I always look for cute but cheap key rings. You just take the ring part off, add an ornament hook, and there you have it...fabulous Christmas ornaments for just a few dollars. It was so much fun showing the girls our 'ornaments' from our honeymoon. We went to London and a little town called York. Here are some pictures of some great ones that we picked up for about $1.50...The first two are from the minster in York...And here's a really bad out of focus picture of a cute little British telephone booth...Ooo, most of them are nice heavy metal ones too. They really look neat on the tree. Key rings as Christmas ornaments defin

      Homemade Christmas Ornaments
Almost ten (10) years ago when the children were quite small we made salt dough ornaments and painted them with the childrens water paints. Over the years they've gotten separated in many different bags and boxes, some have gotten broken, others perhaps have been lost. When we decorate the tree these years we have so many ornaments that we have to pick and choose which go up and I've already

      The Jesse Tree Ornaments
For my Web link Wednesday post below I gave a link to jesse-trees.com because I love the ornaments they sell. Plus they have coloring pages, and devotional pages for every day of the Advent. I however am not crafty enough to make my own ornaments using their cross stitch patterns and we could not afford this year to buy the ornaments. Probably back in September I did a search for free graphics and found there are many web sites online that offer free symbols for you to print off. My most favorite though was actually the Reformed Church of America web site. The graphics they have for download are very simple black and white pictures. You can make these more special by letting your children color them and I liked that I got to use some of my scrapbooking talents by embellishing the edges a bit with some stamp pads. I will be posting pictures of ours one a day until Christmas along with the verse for each day.

Bake Your Own Christmas Ornaments - A Craft The Whole Family Can Enjoy
One of the most fun ways to create homemade Christmas ornaments is by making them from dough. The ingredients for dough ornaments are very inexpensive, and this craft idea can provide hours of fun and entertainment for everyone in your home. How to Make Dough for Ornaments You wont’ want to use your favorite cookie dough recipe to make ornaments to hang on your tree, because the sugary concoctions are likely to attract bugs. The best recipe for making dough ornaments is a simple salt-based dough. Ingredients: 2 cups of flour 1/2 cup of salt 3/4 cups of hot water Instructions: Place all ingredients in a bowl, mixing until completely combined. The finished product should be the consistency of cookie dough. If it is too thick, add more water. This recipe may be doubled, or increased even

Garden ornaments for the WOW factor
Hours and hours of back-breaking, blister-inducing, sweat-covered work have finally culminated in the garden that you have always dreamed about. The garden structures are completed, the plants are melding beautifully and the piece d'resistance (a tacky $29.95 concrete garden ornament) is in place. Whoa! Roll back the video...Is this another B-grade horror movie? Unfortunately not. It seems to happen more often than not as gardeners succumb to making bad choices on garden ornaments. Consider choosing a garden sculpture or ornament the same way a painter considers a frame. Or, with the same creative eye that a chef uses to garnish an extraordinary meal. These professionals would never choose 'tacky'. It appears to me that gardeners choose garden ornaments based on a few selective criteria; price, purchasing convenience, and fads. Yet, all three have nothing to do with gardening. Even less they don't take into account your specific garden and how you can enhance it to give it
