Youre Kidding Me. The Orioles Want Richie Sexson?
Been out all night, but I nearly fell out of the chair when I read this from the Sun's Peter Schmuck.Ok. This guy, I will admit has had a solid major league career; however, his best years might be behind him. He was horrible in 2008, and at this point -- he's simply a low salary, high reward guy who you hope has something left in the tank. From the Sun: The Orioles still are trying to figure out w

10/09/1996 - NY fan helps Yanks beat Orioles
In the bottom of the 8th inning, the Baltimore Orioles were leading the New York Yankees 4-3. It was Game 1 of the 1996 ALCS. The Yankee Stadium faithful had come to see their beloved Bronx Bombers play the O's, while mercilessly booing Roberto Alomar, who had spat at an umpire two weeks earlier. They did not come to cheer the name of a preteen Jewish boy who had just experienced a Yankees-themed

Sports Illustrated, Teixeira/Free Agents, Rebuilding and the Orioles...
I was somewhat optimistic that the Orioles in 2008 -- at least until the end of July -- could approach the .500 mark and perhaps start looking forward to finally getting out the AL East cellar in 2009.Well, obviously I was proven wrong and a couple of people called me out on my high hopes as the team flatlined from mid-August until the end of the season. That being said, Sports Illustrated recently

After a 5-game skid, the Orioles thanks to the brilliant pitching of Garrett Olson, Aubrey Huff’s three-run homer in seventh, along with Nick Markakis going 3-for-4 and breaking out a slump with a solo homer in the sixth, Baltimore beat the New York Yankees, 6-1. The woeful New York bullpen opened the game for Baltimore and wasted a great effort by youngster Darrell Rasner. The story of the game

If this is true, this is perhaps one of the most asinine things I have ever read that's happened to a group of fans at a sporting svent.I've contended at times that going to an Oriole game at times is equivalent of going to a golf tournament. After reading this article, you've got to wonder if Camden Yards is supposed cultivate a Disney-Land like experience, or one is going to a sporting event.Take

Are The Orioles Who We Thought They Were?
Another game on the West Coast, another loss. I have my hands up in the air after another loss -- this time in extra innings; however, just like others -- close game, the Orioles struggle to come back and then lose in the end. What's to say? The one thing we thought would be the problem isn't the problem (the pitching) -- it's the bleeping offense.I said in the beginning of the year, I'd be happy to see the team improving, in a way it has with the competitive ball games and an effective relief/starting corps. But again the bleeping offense is making me wonder if the Orioles are who we thought they were. Now Roberts won't hit in the .250-260's (at least we hope), and Nick Markakis is far better than what he's showing right now. Huff (he's doing ok, but I still really don't care for the guy) is

Same Crap, Different Day - Orioles Lose Again in Oakland For Fourth Straight Loss; The Rundown & What The Bloggers Are Saying...
Could the good vibes of being a Baltimore Orioles fan in the short-term be coming to a close?I was going to title this post something else (use your imagination), but I decided to be a good fan and use some decorum when doing this.Again, the Orioles lost out West, 4-2, to the Oakland Athletics. The loss was their fourth in a row, and they need to find answers; according to Spencer Fordin, the Orioles held a meeting at some point on Tuesday.Brian Burres struggled for the most part last night, as he allowed eight hits and four runs (he was charged with three) over a little more than five innings of work. The bullpen was once again solid; however, once again the anemic offense did not do anyone favors despite the relief corps keeping Baltimore in the game. The flighted ones made A’s starter,

ESPN's Thinks The Orioles Are A Trainwreck; MASN To Air Norfolk Tides (AAA) Baseball...
Despite the joy we are feeling with the Orioles success in April, most in the media think the gravy train ride may come to a screeching halt.ESPN's Jonah Keri in a piece titled, "The Failure Dynasties", picks the Orioles as one the prime examples of futility in the sport of baseball. Also included in the list are the Kansas City Royals, Tampa Bay Rays, Pittsburgh Pirates & the Washington Nationals (formerly Expos). In the piece, he goes over some five bad moves each respective franchise made, their lowest moment, horrible staff/players, quotes, and notes for the future. Here's his summary of the franchise as it stands..."The 15-13 start is nice, but the Orioles probably won't see a winning season for a while. About Yesterday: Orioles Lose to White Sox, 6-1
The Baltimore Orioles are still in first place in the American League East, tied with the Rays (who would have thought about this scenario in Spring Training); however, their visit to the Windy City has not gone as expected. Our Orioles lost their second game in a row, as Paul Konerko went 2-for-2 with a pair of solo home runs as the Other Sox beat us, 6-1 on Sunday.Jose Contreras (2-2) threw 6 2/3 innings, in his second start of the year against Baltimore, gave up on run on five hits, striking out and walking three. Out leadoff hitter, Brian Roberts, looks to be out of his slump as he went 2-for-3 and drove in Baltimore’s only run.Melvin Mora & Nick Markakis both had hits; meanwhile, Jeremy Guthrie (0-3), was the hard luck loser – again – as he gave up three runs on five hits in fiv

Teixeira: Is He Good For The Orioles?
Over the past several years, the topic of slugger Mark Teixiera has been one that has been on the forefront of Baltimore Oriole fans. The issue of him ever playing for us is one I have always wondered about. Yes, he'd look great in an O's uniform and a move to get him here would no doubt appease a certain segment of fans, but I'm going to give my opinion, just because I'm trying to be realistic to anyone who cares to read what I type.As much as I like Teixeira, the bidding will be ridiculous in the off-season and he'll be in reach of the same five or six teams in every marquee deal.Everyone may want the hometown boy, but in the state the Orioles are in, they cannot and should not devote the financial resources to him at all. If we somehow finish above .500, let's take another look at him; h

The Baltimore Ravens Supporting The Orioles
Steve McNair, former Ravens QB threw out the first pitch on Friday night, and on Sunday new coach John Harbaugh did the same, and Rex Ryan caught it.It goes without saying, two the big sports teams in the Baltimore area should be supporting one another. For most right now, the Ravens are number one in fans' hearts despite a lackluster season, and perhaps they might help to give the Orioles a little shot in the arm in terms of PR and just general support. The Birds are established enough to do it on their own, but the help of an NFL team could only help, not hurt the franchise.
