Candy Review: Peckton’s Taste of the Orient Fruit Jellies
When Candy Addict last went to the All Candy Expo, the writers came back raving about the Medlow fruit pectin jellies they sampled, and lamented how hard it was to source them locally. Of course I had to laugh - being the only Australia-based writer, I could get these all the time! It made a [...]

      from Rue de L'Orient
from Rue de L’OrientBruxelles, Belgium21 September 1997This was the first and last thing I saw on the way in and out of Europe my first two tours (although I'm sure the crane was not up the whole time). In fact, I first arrived in the dark so this was my first view of Europe from Monique and Arnaud's apartment on the Rue de L'Orient. I painted this just before taking the train up to Eindhoven for the beginning of my 1997 tour.I am so fortunate to have such dear and generous friends in Brussels who always met me at the airport, provided a warm bed and bath after landing and before take-off, and an open, family welcome on each visit. Visiting with them each year (and then with their new addition, Ignaz) became such a regular part of my life for a while, that I sorely missed them when I

Controlling Your Diabetes With The Power Of The Orient!
Diabetes is one of the few diseases, the fallacies about which far outnumber the facts. The reasons behind this are many. For one, diabetes is still a disease which has still not been completely explored and with every development, there pops up a bundle of half-truths which can be as counter-effective as they are misinformed. Also, many not-so-scrupulous entrepreneurs, who are looking to make a quick buck, hop on to the diabetes bandwagon with their self-proclaimed infallible cures, which further add to all the erroneous beliefs about diabetes. On a secondary level, these misconceptions also lead the layman to distrust several other alternative ways of treating diabetes, some of which may even be more beneficial than the one he is accustomed to. A noteworthy example of such highly misunde

The Pearl of the Orient in a Glance
Author: David Poarch The Philippines, also known as the pearl of the orient, is an archipelago located in southeast Asia. It consists of about 7,000 islands; a little more if it’s low tide. It’s quite hot all year round, and it seems that the heat only dissipates sometimes during the monsoon season or “wet season.” During this time a series of typhoons slam the Philippines with strong rains. Apart from typhoons causing occasional floods, the Philippines also experiences volcanic eruptions every now and then; Mt. Pinatubo, Mt. Mayon, and Mt. Taal are some of the more active Philippine volcanoes in the past century. Filipinos are some of the friendliest and most fun-loving bunch of people you’ll ever meet. However, some of these same people will not think twice to fool, steal, or take advantage of you in some way if they think they can profit from it. Unfortunately, the Philippines is still a third world country for the most part and so the majority of the p

      All aboard the Orient Express!
Jeanette took a trip on the Orient Express from London to the elegant Edwardian seaside resort of Folkestone. A champagne dinner, a leisurely walk along the beach, then back to London with a genteel champagne afternoon tea. Ooohhh. Jeanette was born hearing and became deaf as an adult. She is a fluent signer (and gobby with it). I asked her how accessible the trip was for her, and would she recommend it to deaf people. Accompanied by some good friends, Jeanette was carefully chauffeured to Victoria by her husband. They had been sent confirmation of the departure time with their tickets, so arrived in good time. At the platform stood the beautiful old train. The party boarded and proceeded to have a rollicking good lunch hic! hic! For almost six hours! They started off with chilled champagne. That was followed by smoked salmon with tiny pancakes, then chicken in a superb sauce with vegetables and asparagus. For pudding they had fruit with clear jelly on top, and more fruit on the top.

Woeful. Disgraceful. Hapless. Heartless. Pitiful. Inept. Just a few words many fans used throughout and at the end of today's dismal home game. It was a bad day at the office for Dario Gradi and his players. A very bad day. You just don't lose at home to a team who are 4th bottom, do you? Well, not when you're doing ok and confidence is relatively high. Whatever, the "Egg on Face" award must go to the Alex gaffer who chipped in with a classic earlier this week: "We're becoming hard to beat." Right. Spot on , Dario. I suspect a few of the paying punters will beg to differ. I have a mate who travels down from Nuneaton to Alex home games. He deserves a medal at the moment, as does another who is based in Chesterfield. After today's match (although it was no contest) one of them suggested that today's performance was "the worse I've ever seen at Gresty Road." It will be interesting to see if many readers of this blog agree with that rather harsh comment. If you do, please say so. It
