The number of Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) is growing by leaps and bounds and is in direct correlation with increasing health care costs. The purpose of HMOs is to manage health care by using a prepaid model that emphasizes early treatment and prevention. This prepayment is referred to as a service-incurred basis and is paid by the consumer. This emphasis on prevention such as routine physicals, diagnostic screening is paid for in advance. The model is a direct contrast to health insurance plans that historically did not pay for preventive programs but only paid after the fact for injury and illness. In theory, the Health Maintenance Organizations, HMOs focus on prevention is ultimately supposed to reduce health care costs. She has kindly permitted me to repost the article here.I often run into people that think they should be able to “adopt” or “rescue” a pet free of charge. After all, they’re saving the animal’s life, right? Why should they have to pay anything when they’re doing that organization a favor by taking the pet off their hands? Plus, giving away those pets, or reducing the fee will encourage more people to adopt, right? These folks are missing the big picture.Shelt

Church social media, The Blogging Church, and non-profit organizations: My Quick Thoughts….
Social media can be something that takes ALL of your time or can be a convenient and fun way to build your brand.  Its also a great way to display your personality.  At the end of the day, it can be all consuming, if you don’t create balance in your life. (Jeremiah Owyang concurs is alluded to by Steve Rubels post about the ease of drinking the web 2.0 koolaid).  This should be a wake up call to people in ministry who might allow large chunks of their day to be absorbed with blogging. Being a preacher or a pastor can be an all consuming job in itself, so adding blogging or social media to the mix can seem like a daunting task.  Writing and editing and interacting with an online community in addition to pastoral, counseling, and  leadership duties is truly mammouth.  (Not to mention having a family and raising kids)  However, I think that for 75-80% of pastors that choosing to opt entirely out of social media and blogging is a bit misguided.   The More Efficient Altern

Bill Clinton just wrote in his new book, “Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World,” about the benefits of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). NGOs work to benefit specific economic, social, and cultural causes. Instead of pooling tax dollars into one central location, and squandering the money, non-governmental organizations are smaller in size and have private citizens managing the money.Bill Clinton realized after his Presidency that these programs actually work to help people better than governments. He realized that it is easier to track the contributions to its intended source. NGOs also lead to less corruption and less waste. Overall, they achieve better results than punishing the most successful people in our society with a higher tax burden. For those of you who have never heard of Non-Governmental Organizations before, the first thought going through your head right now is correct. NGOs are exactly what they sound like. They are Private Charities! There is nothing dif

Freedom From Religion Foundation, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 against a challenge to the Bush administration's use of tax dollars to fund their faith-based initiatives. The impact of this decision is that American citizens do not have standing to challenge discretionary spending by the executive branch to support religiously-oriented programs in court.Americans United for Separation of Church and State issued a statement saying that today's decision, while disappointing, is unlikely to affect most church-state litigation.“This is a disappointing decision that blocks the courthouse door for Americans with legitimate church-state grievances,” said the Rev. The Types of Business Organizations Part 2
The other type of business organization is the limited liability organization. These entities can take many forms. These forms are: (1) a limited liability partnership; (2) a limited liability company; (3) a limited liability limited partnership; and (4) a corporation. Note that there are various forms of corporations (such as an S-corporation, a close corporation, and a closely-held corporation), but these are conversations for another day.Like the unlimited liability entities, these limited liability entities have pros and cons. First, and most obviously, these limited liability companies, as the name suggests, limits your liability. You are liable (some exceptions apply such as piercing the corporate veil) only up to the amount of your investment. Therefore, if you investment two thousand dollars ($2,000) into a corporation, and the company has debts, you are only liable up to your two thousand dollar ($2000) investment.Second, all of these entities, except a corporation, are

BUT…….There are 3 locations for the selling portion. Books need to be kept separate, and have separate inventory. For those 3 profit centers, do they need seperate companies created within the software? And do they have the option to consolidate for the PROFIT centers only, and exclude the fixed assets and ordering companies from that report?Kevin says: Yes, they would have to have 3 companies set up individually, and on the Selling company they would need multi-location inventory installed. The fixed assets are one company, the ordering company can just drop ship out inventory from the Distribution Company, and the selling store(s) is as one company (if they want the selling stores could also have Multi-Location Inventory for easy transfers). They could set up the selling stores as different companies,

What are the Motivations and Purposes of Family Organizations
In corresponding with the person who wrote me last week, he said, "It's a challenge to introduce an idea such as this to a family. Most have never heard of a family association, much less its purpose."That raises the question--what are the motivations and purposes of a family organization? Let me suggest a few, with some of these coming from my father, Robert J. Grow, who has served as president of the Jared Pratt Family Association for the last 20 years.1. A desire to preserve the genealogy and history of ancestors. While traditional genealogists are interested in finding the names and dates, family history organizations often seek out a more personal, detailed and complex view of their ancestors. What were their struggles and triumphs? What were their lives like? While traditional genealogy focus on my family history, family history organizations tend to focus on "my family in history." This typically involves collecting photographs, documents, biographical sketches, stories, etc.2.

CAE adds three flight training organizations to CAE Global Academy
Somewhat echoing comments made over on Cockpit Conversation CAE (a world leader in simulation and modeling) has announced the addition of three flight training organizations to their Global Academy. One facility is located in the U.S. (SAA Flight Training, based in San Diego), the other two are located in Moncton and Brussels. The stats quoted in the CNW Group article are amazing, but of greater interest to me is that a heavy metal simulator giant is gathering a network of ab-initio, and advanced training organizations around the world. Could this radically change how most commercial pilots are trained in the future? If so, what impact will that have on personal and recreational flight training? Coupled with the changes that we have seen with the evolution of NAV Canada, those proposed for the FAA, the fluid situation in Australia, security concerns and VLJs; we could see more significant changes is aviation in the next 20 years than in the last 40.

      Why Employees Leave Organizations?
This article was released by Azim Premji, CEO - Wipro.Every company faces the problem of people leaving the company for better pay or profile. Early this year, Mark, a senior software designer, got an offer from a prestigious international firm to work in its India operations developing specialized software. He was thrilled by the offer. He had heard a lot about the CEO. The salary was great. The company had all the right systems in place employee-friendly human resources (HR) policies, a spanking new office, and the very best technology, even a canteen that served superb food. Twice Mark was sent abroad for training. "My learning curve is the sharpest it's ever been," he said soon after he joined. Last week, less than eight months after he joined, Mark walked out of the job. Why did this talented employee leave ? Arun quit for the same reason that drives many good people away. The answer lies in one of the largest studies undertaken by the Gallup Organization. The study surveyed over a

Pattern Organizations posted by Cat MacGregor
I am cleaning house, trying to get rid of the excess patterns I've collected AND find a system that will let me find patterns, remember what I have and store them in a way that doesn't take over the whole sewing room (read: sewing room = dining room) Currently everything is in boxes piled up everywhere or shoved into my armoire. So as I clean house, what's a good way to store the ones I want to keep, so I can remember them and actually use them!!Last post by Cat MacGregor at Thu 30 Aug 2007 11:22:56 PM Total posts: 13 Visit PatternReview.com to read this entire topic.Shop for Textile Studio at PatternReview.com
