Recently, each state in Southeast Asia had its fair share of troubling issues in local politics. Singapore wasn't spared too, even though on the surface, the political field still remains peaceful compared to our neighbours.A few weeks ago, I chanced upon Workers' Party member Yaw Shin Leong's blog and saw his post expressing his remorse for voting for the PAP candidate at the place he resides. The environmentalists are whining about McCain’s stance on dropping the ban on offshore drilling to ease oil prices and our dependency on foreign oil. Nothing suggests a good week to come like the Catholic Church calling out "godless" Hollywood — or, more specifically, rebuking Tom Hanks and the rest of the fork-tongued heathens who had requested access to shoot parts of Angels and Demons in a few of Rome's celebrated cathedrals. The opposition to Pervez Musharraf is taking a worrisome turn — one that Musharraf’s supporters inside and outside of Pakistan should take heed of. Those who would like to see Musharraf’s ouster have been frustrated by the prevention of him being conventionally removed. LONDON: Britain's main opposition party made strong gains in local elections in England and Wales as results were tallied Friday, piling pressure on Prime Minister Gordon Brown's struggling Labour Party government which faces a national election within two years. The British Broadcasting Corp. projected that the resurgent Conservative Party would take 44 percent of the vote, putting it 20 points ahead of Labour. Brown's party was running neck-and-neck with the Liberal Democrats, the country's third-largest party.Partial results on Friday from 99 local councils showed the Conservatives gaining 144 seats while Labour lost 145. The Liberal Democrats gained 10."I think these results are not just a vote against Gordon Brown and his government," Conservative leader David Cameron said Friday. "I t

AP, ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (April 16 2008): Another opposition party announced Wednesday it will boycott Ethiopia's second round of local elections because of rigging and intimidation, further damaging the democratic credentials of the key U.S. ally.Bulcha Demeksa, head of the Oromo Federalist Democratic Movement, said observers were banned from polling stations, voters threatened by ruling party officials and canvas ballot bags stuffed with ballots during the first round of elections April 13.Those problems led the party, which claims to represent Ethiopia's largest ethnic group, to withdraw from the second round of elections April 20.Merga Bekana, chairman of the national election board, dismissed the allegations of rigging and said he was unaware of the boycott until journalists informed
By Peter Heinlein VOA News, Addis Ababa (April 14, 2008) - The biggest opposition party that participated in Ethiopia's nationwide elections Sunday is planning to boycott the second part of the voting, charging the first half was rigged. Another, larger opposition group had pulled out even before the first vote. VOA's Peter Heinlein in Addis Ababa reports the withdrawal of the two largest opposition factions would clear the way for Ethiopia's ruling party to take control of local councils nationwide, and to increase its majority in parliament. The leadership of the Oromo Federalist Democratic Movement voted Monday to join a boycott when Ethiopia votes in critical municipal elections next Sunday. The OFDM had been the largest opposition party participating last Sunday, as Ethiopians voted fo
ADDIS ABABA (AFP, April 12) — Ethiopia on Sunday holds elections for the first time since deadly 2005 poll violence, but accusations of fresh repression against the opposition make the results a foregone conclusion.About 3.7 million candidates are competing for almost as many local and federal council seats and the opposition was only able to field a few thousand contestants. About 30 million people are eligible to vote.On Thursday, one of the main opposition movements in the Horn of Africa nation, the United Ethiopian Democratic Forces (UEDF), announced it was pulling out of the race."We have decided to call off our participation from the elections as the situation is out of hand and dangerous," party chairman Beyene Petros told AFP."We attempted to field candidates in several constitue

Zimbabwe’s opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Wednesday claimed victory and rejected the need for a second round of voting in the tense presidential contest between MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai and long-time President Robert Mugabe.
The Southern Poverty Law Center has included Mass Resistance in its list of hate groups because of the organization's opposition to homosexuality, an opposition which is rooted in both Divine Revelation and Natural Law. This is ridiculous on so many different levels. What is particularly ironic, however, is that Mass Resistance doesn't even meet the SPLC's definition of a hate group: "All hate groups have beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their immutable characteristics." (Source: ).And what is the definition of "immutable"? The word itself comes from the Latin: in - not and mutabilis - mutable. The American Heritage Dictionary provides us with an excellent definition: "Not subject or susceptible to change." But can one honestly suggest tha

What’s up with their hesitations?Hello… Transparency is for everybody and Barisan Nasional is not the only party that has to be transparent to the common people. I do agree with BERSIH. My gut feeling even told me that our political opposition parties would have wiped out Barisan Nasional in the recent 2008 General Election if the election itself is conducted fairly and cleanly.Press Release: 17 March 2008The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (BERSIH) wishes to point out that the opposition parties might have won the elections outright if it was in fact clean, free, fair and transparent.BERSIH stresses that the Opposition’s impressive gains were the result of a number of factors, and in spite of the numerous incidences of fraudulent practices, irregularities and misconduct — not because of the absence of dirty tactics. The BN won many seats with wafer-thin margins, very likely aided by fraudulent means. The margin was smaller than 20% of th
Now that all three of our political opposition parties have agreed to recognize Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as Opposition Leader, it is only right for mainstream media and fellow bloggers to stop referring Mr. Lim Kit Siang as Opposition Leader. It is interesting to take note here that Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s new recognition is just temporary since PAS, PKR and DAP seems to have made a pact to let Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim lead the Opposition after he had won a seat in Parliament.Courtesy of tvPAS Dot ComBy the way, I never did like the sound of Mr. Lim Kit Siang as Opposition Leader in the past. A couple of days ago I referred to Yoel Marcus endorsing Ehud Olmert to stay in power regardless of the final report of the Winograd Committee. I didn't comment on it much further, and in the meantime Haaretz has published a response by Emmanuel Sivan, concluding that Olmert is obliged to resign (Hebrew). Most of his arguments are regarding Olmert's performance as Prime-Minister in various aspect,s including the Peace Process, Annapolis, the Gaza strip and the education crisis. His arguments concerning Olmert's functioning during the Lebanon war of 2006 are mainly the ground offensive of the last few days of the war, and even more so the decision to continue the war after the first week, when "three independent reports, solicited by his bureau and the office of the defense minister… reached a similar conclusion: all that was possible to achieve by military means against Hezbollah had already been met". This is Olmert's great fault according to Sivan. When deciding

Hon. Stephane Dion: "We are not in Afghanistan in retribution for 9/11. Never! Canada is not that kind of a country"by Wayne PranteDecember 7th, 2007Edmonton, Alberta - Prior to the attacks in New York and Washington, DC on September 11th, 2001, Canada was widely known and respected as a UN Peacekeeping force in conflicts around the world.Shortly after the 9/11 attacks, NATO invoked, for the first time in history (at US request) Article 5 of the NATO Charter, claiming an attack by a foreign nation. President George W. Bush declared some days later, during an internationally televised speech, and in a direct challenge to other nations "you are either with us or you are with the terrorists". Canada, under Liberal Jean Chretien, like other NATO allies, quickly announced that it would participate in Bush's global "War on Terror" and sent troops to Afghanistan. Popular support for that decision was very high.Canada has changed federal governments since the war began, with the Conserva
On December 4, President Bush met in the White House with a few pro-democracy members of the Syrian opposition, including US-based Ammar Abdelhamid and former Syrian parliamentarian Mamoun Homsi, who currently lives outside of Syria. Homsi who signed the Damascus Declaration, was imprisoned in 2002 and sentenced to five years for his criticism of the Syrian mukhabarat and the perpetual "state of emergency" laws that govern Syria. Few details of the meeting have emerged. Homsi and Abdelhamid are said...(read more)
An opposition politician running in Russian parliamentary elections was shot and seriously wounded on Wednesday as he entered his house in the southern Russian region of Dagestan, Russian media reported.
Farid Babayev, who will lead the regional list for the liberal anti-Kremlin Yabloko party was in a serious condition in hospital, RIA novosti news agency reported after an unidentified gunman fired on him in the regional capital Makhachkala.
“The incident occurred at about 10 p.m., not far from his home. Farid Babayev is now in hospital in a serious condition,” said his party colleague and fellow electoral candidate, Ruslan Salahbekov, was quoted as saying by Interfax news agency.
I’m sure it was a total coincidence that he was shot. Don’t be surprised if his condition takes a turn for the worse while he’s in the hospital and he doesn’t make it.

Glenn Beck in action.Complaints and demands for a retraction and an apology are flooding CNN today after Neo-Con host Glenn Beck and ex-Marxist David Horowitz smeared Ron Paul supporters, libertarians and the anti-war left as terrorist sympathizers and inferred that the U.S. military should be used to silence them, parroting a talking point that traces back to a September 2006 White House directive. This is part of an ongoing propaganda assault which has also been mimicked by other anti-American Neo-Con talking heads like Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh.Beck opened up his show segment by inferring that the U.S. military should be used to silence domestic dissent against the war, claiming that those he would later identify as Ron Paul supporters, libertarians and the anti-war left and link with terrorists, were a "physical threat.""When you enlist in the U.S. military, you have take an oath that says you're gonna support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enem

In case you all missed it. Rush Limbaugh sold Harry Reid’s letter to Clear Channel requesting that Rush be censured for $2.1 Million on eBay. Rush then kept his word and matched the offer, making the total $4.2 Million. All the proceeds will go to the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation, a group that gives scholarship money to the children of service members either killed in war or in the course of public duty. Rush is on the board of directors of this great organization.Amazingly, Media Matters is still running with the fake “Phony Soldiers” story. These people clearly do not know when they have lost a battle. Rush took the Democratic Party nonsense in Congress and smashed them over the head with an anvil. It was simply brilliant. Now the only question is whether any of the Senators who signed the disgraceful letter to Rush Limbaugh, will match the donation as Rush requested. Let us see how patriotic they really are.Notably, Hillary Clinton was one of the people who s

The opposition Union of Right Forces is opposing President Putin’s attempts to reduce free enterprise in the Russian economy. The Union is offering candidates in the upcoming State Duma elections who champion the idea of free enterprise and individual initiative. They believe reforms begun by Yeltsin in the 1990s to open the Russian economy to market forces are being undone by Putin’s conservative quasi-authoritarian tendencies which increasingly place the government as a force in the national economy. The Union of Right Forces seeks a Russia which follows free market ideas, has a volunteer army, and a more open and liberal approach to foreign policy.
There is scant doubt Putin has complete control over the upcoming election and his candidates will win in a vast majority of races. The tragedy for the Russian people is to have an improving economy and a backward leader who seeks returning to the good old days of authoritarian rule.

When I first heard of plans to move the Chicago Children's Museum to Grant Park I was firmly opposed to the idea. I had visions of green space being torn up and replaced by a monstrosity overrun by wide-eyed, sticky-fingered kids. But mostly my opposition stemmed from my jealousy of even more park development for affluent areas of Chicago. Back in March I posted an entry on this gardening blog, titled "Dear Mayor Daley," where I complained about the disparity of park development in undeserved neighborhoods. Today I'm still not pleased with situation we have in many of our neighborhoods that aren't near the lake but I'm no longer in opposition of the Chicago Children's Museum desire to move to Grant Park. This week Mayor Daley flat-out accused the opposition of the move of being racists and anti-children. 42nd ward Alderman Brendan Reilley appeared on Chicago Tonight last night to explain that his opposition wasn't fueled by racism or a dislike of kids. In the weekend edition of the Today newspaper on 15 Sep 2007, there was this article titled "50 years on.. What keeps Workers' Party going?". When I read the headlines, I thought that it might be another article to highlight the strengths of the PAP and weaknesses of the opposition parties in general. But I was wrong. Although in the first paragraph the journalist praised the ruling party for creating an economic miracle, the following paragraphs totally caught me by surprise. The rest of the paragraphs described the history of Workers’ Party throughout the short history of Singapore. Few items caught my eye: The title -"50 years on.. What keeps Workers' Party going?" seem to suggest that the party is able to withstand the constant onslaught from the PAP and being 50-year old, it is a party which is wise, experienced and still popular among Singaporeans. “One exception was the WP's call for a "caring society" in the 1980s, which offered Singaporeans an alternative policy.

Many people decry the lack of talent within the Liberals, and yet rather than give a talented candidate a go in what is in all likelihood a kamikaze mission, rather than raise the profile of a candidate, rather than give the disaffected people of Williamstown or Albert Park an alternative candidate to vote for, the Libs scurry down the nearest rat hole to hide.

No matter how hard you try in life, you are eventually going to come up against someone who disagrees with your point of view.
I know, I know - it’s hard to believe that anyone could possibly disagree with your infinite wisdom, but trust me, it will happen.
It is how you deal with that opposition, however, that will determine whether or not the outcome of that disagreement causes negativity in your life and in the lives of people around you.
Choice #1: Stand Your Ground
This is the “default” reaction for most people. After all, if you didn’t believe in your point of view, you would have never voiced it to begin with, right?
Or, even if you spoke out of turn and said something that you shouldn’t have, now your pride is on the line, and no one wants to look li

“Solving the Kashmir issue is the first and last essential,” said Rehman, who is the parliamentary leader of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal party (MMAP).
He was speaking at a two-day meeting of lawmakers of South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries here.
This is the second such meeting to be orgainsed by South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA). About 80 parliamentarians from all the eight SAARC countries are taking part in the seminar inaugurated Saturday by Lok Sabha speaker Somanath Chatterjee.
On the issue of building a gas pipeline across Iran, Pakistan and India, the Pakistani opposition leader said: “Global powers have no business in interfering and telling us what to do.”
“We need to solve this on our own and not allow Western

In Zimbabwe, factions of the main opposition party the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) have begun talks to join forces against President Robert Mugabe’s ruling ZANU-PF party for the upcoming presidential elections. The MDC recently split into two – the Morgan Tsvangirai and Arthur Mutambara factions. Sources say the groups have agreed to endorse Morgan Tsvangirai as a sole opposition candidate to challenge incumbent President Robert Mugabe at the presidential polls. Nelson Chamisa, the spokesman for Tsvangirai’s faction, confirmed the on-going talks. From the capital, Harare, Chamisa told VOA that both factions have agreed that the party would be stronger in unity than apart.
“I can’t really say we are at this stage or that stage, but what I can confirm is that the party realizes the importance of a synergy of efforts. They realize the need for making sure that at least there is a unity of purpose, and unity of actio
by Andrea RodriguezRead more | Digg storyCuba is quietly modernizing its ethanol-producing facilities, despite Fidel Castro's repeated assertions that making more of the biofuel could starve the world's poor. The island plans to upgrade 11 of its 17 refineries, which produce up to 47 million gallons annually of ethanol from sugar cane, said Conrado Moreno, a member of Cuba's Academy of Sciences. The refineries currently produce alcohol for use in rum and other spirits, as well as medications and cooking on the island. But the improvements will give Havana the capacity to one day produce fuel for cars, Moreno told reporters at a conference on renewable energy. Ethanol produced in Cuba is not for cars now, but "in four or five years, we'll see," he said. Castro has railed against a U.S.-backed plan to produce ethanol from corn for cars in a series of editorials published in state-run newspapers, claiming it will cause prices of farm products of all kinds to spike and make food t
By Andrew Heavens ADDIS ABABA, May 1 (Reuters) - An Internet watchdog on Tuesday accused Ethiopia of blocking scores of anti-government Web sites and millions of Weblogs in one of sub-Saharan Africa's biggest cases of cyber-censorship. Web monitor, the OpenNet Initiative, said the Horn of Africa country was stopping citizens from viewing opposition-linked Web sites, and blogs hosted by Blogger, an online journal community owned by Internet search engine Google Inc. Ethiopia dismissed the report as "a baseless allegation". "We may have technical problems from time to time," Information Ministry spokesman Zemedkun Tekle. "But we have not done anything like that and we have no intention of doing anything like that." The OpenNet Initiative -- a partnership between Harvard Law School, and universities of Toronto and Cambridge and Oxford -- said it had gathered proof of interference. "We have run diagnostic tests using volunteers in Ethiopia which indicate that they are blocking IP addresse
John J. Jackson, III from Conservation Force sent me the comments that they filed with the USFWS in regards to the listing of the Polar Bear! The following response is very long but it is a must read! We all need to realize how incredibly important this legislation is in regards to our hunting rights and for the conservation of the Polar Bear! The United States Fish and Wildlife Service is not the agency that should become the regulatory arm for greenhouse gases and increased carbon emissions. It is not in the best interest of the Polar Bear and not in the best interest of the American citizens. Please read the following in its entirety!April 5, 2007Supervisor, United States Fish and Wildlife ServiceMarine Mammals Management Office1011 East Tudor Road, MS 341Anchorage, AK 99503Phone: 907-786-3800RE: Comment in Opposition to the Proposed Rule to List All Polar Bear as Threatened, 72 FR 1064 (January 9, 2007)Dear Sir,This is a comment in opposition to the proposed listing of all p
I should've posted this earlier, from an e-mail by SliwaNews: an article from Aftenposten, about Kadra, an opponent of the Muslim belief in female circumcision, who was assaulted by a gang:Norwegian-Somalian Kadra, who became famous in Norway for exposing imam support of female circumcision, was beaten unconscious on Thursday.Kadra was attacked and beaten senseless by seven or eight persons of Somali origin, newspaper VG reports."I was terrified. While I lay on the pavement they kicked me and screamed that I had trampled on the Koran. Several shouted Allah-o-akbar (God is great) and also recited from the Koran," Kadra told VG.Kadra linked the attack to recent remarks in VG where she said that the Koran's views on women needed to be reinterpreted.Kadra said that the gang of Somali men attacked her around 3 a.m. in downtown Oslo on Thursday. A medical examination found that she had several broken ribs, NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting) reports. Kadra filed charges and was due to speak with
By STEVE GUTTERMANJerusalem Post16 Apr 2007ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) – Riot police clashed with opposition supporters Sunday at the end of an anti-Kremlin protest in Russia’s second largest city, chasing small groups of demonstrators, beating some on the ground and hauling them into police buses.
It was not immediately clear what sparked the violence after the rally, which city authorities
Israeli defense minister Amir Peretz is now getting what he's asked for: opposition. He wants to throw Jewish residents out of the building in Hebron that was legally purchased, but he's finding now that other government and Knesset members, are against what he wants to do:Opposition by government ministers over the decision to evacuate the contentious Hebron home, which was taken over by settlers on March 19 as in an ownership dispute, increased on Wednesday afternoon.Interior Minister Roni Bar-On urged the government secretary to convene an urgent meeting before the planned evacuation."There is no reason for Jews not to live in Hebron, or anywhere else in Israel for that matter," said Bar-On. "The decision (to evacuate Israelis) falls on the entire government and not just on the defense minister," he stated.Minister of Industry, Trade and Labor Eli Yishai also added to the growing dissatisfaction of MKs on the issue. While visiting the disputed house, Yishai said, "any residents of
A Letter from a Reader:
Why this Conservative Tennessean Opposes REAL ID
1. REAL ID is a de facto national identification card. At least Lamar Alexander, in recent, comments was honest enough to admit this. Has America sacrificed so much for freedom only to create a “papers please” society?
2. REAL ID does an end-run around the 4h Amendment: “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”
It is unreasonable to give the central government the power (potential) to track individuals in real-time. If the government needs to search the lives of a citizen, let it get a search warrant. We should not have to be monitered. Is not this the essence of freedom? REAL ID, and its future additions, will make li
This Sunday saw the biggest opposition demonstrations in Minsk since the April protests against the presidential elections last year, prolonging Lukashenka's rule over Belarus. An estimated 15,000 demonstrators gathered in front of the Academy of Sciences to listen to Alyaksandr Milinkevich and other opposition leaders, in commemoration of the first shortlived Belarusian National Republic of 1918.This time, authorities used milder methods to thwart the demonstrations than the violence seen last year. Thus, some 50 opposition activists throughout Belarus had been arrested prior to the rally, in order to complicate its organisation. The march was also led away from the city centre, and police repeatedly urged people to dissolve the "illegal demonstration." Furthermore, the Lukashenka regime had staged a number of concerts to draw attention away from the opposition rally.Demonstrations must be seen as a test of oppositional strength and resilience. The opposition has for long been torn
According to the EEOC, protected activity includes opposition to a practice that is believed to be unlawful discrimination. Opposition can be shown simply by informing an employer that you believe that he/she is engaging in prohibited discrimination.Opposition is protected from retaliation as long as it is based on a reasonable, good-faith belief that the complained of practice violates anti-discrimination law; and the manner of the opposition is reasonable. Examples of protected opposition include:-- Complaining to anyone about alleged discrimination against oneself or others;-- Threatening to file a charge of discrimination;-- Picketing in opposition to discrimination; or-- Refusing to obey an order reasonably believed to be discriminatory. The anti-retaliation provisions make it unlawful to discriminate against an individual because s/he has opposed any practice made unlawful under the employment discrimination statutes. This protection applies if an individual explicitly or imp

There's an anti-war protest commencing in Washington today, but it's not by who you'd think. No Birkenstock hippies, no alternative artists, no "pussy liberals," just Christians...pious, loyal Christians...the core of the modern Republican Party.Hardcore Christians have always been strong supporters of the war, and of most of President Bush's policies, but like the rest of the country, even this demographic is turning against his war.Good Christian people can see the immorality of this war. This is not a war of defense, nor is it a war to save people. It is no longer a war in anyone's interest. It is an aggravation to peace. It is pointless, there is no true victory here.Perhaps these pious Christians, speaking the word of God (or what they think is the word of God anyway,) will finally get to the President.Unfortunately he's not in Washington to listen to their voice...he ran to Camp David.
Many people have noted that New Labour has not exactly exercised a liberal bias when it has come to enact new legislation. In this regard, New Labour has adopted a mantle which has seemed to have far more in common with the worst type of stern, interfering authoritarianism and the protection of the status quo associated with periods of Tory rule than any heritage of commonality with the ordinary citizens of the old Great Britain. New Labour has also spent its time in office schmoozing the rich and powerful with all the indignity of a drunken floozy looking for punter at the end of the night.
The question to ask any potential Parliamentary candidate when the next election comes around is whether they will seek to repeal any of the repressive legislation which New Labour has enacted in order to keep the people under the thumbs of the legislators - and anyone else with money and power. Of course, whatever they might say at the time, they will have no intention of changing one whit of any
Zimbabwe: Police Crackdown on Opposition RalliesWe condemn the actions of the Government of Zimbabwe over this past weekend in suppressing peaceful opposition political activity. In disregard for a court order, riot police in Harare broke up a rally where the leader of one of the factions of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), Morgan Tsvangirai, had planned to announce his candidacy for the country's 2008 presidential election. Scores were injured and arrested for attempting to assemble peacefully and exercise their political rights. The police also suppressed a rally in Zimbabwe's second city, Bulawayo, by the MDC's other faction over the weekend, injuring and arresting many MDC members. We call on the Government of Zimbabwe to respect the country's judicial decisions and the rule of law and allow the people of Zimbabwe to exercise their political rights. Zimbabwe's political and economic crises can only be resolved through dialogue with the political opposition, with Zimbabw
As was the case during an earlier reading in October, the federal Conservatives were embarrassed by opposition parties who successfully banded together to pass a bill forcing the government to meet its international Kyoto commitments. The Liberals, Bloc and NDP all voted in favour of the private member bill, passing it through Parliament by a vote of 161 - 113 Wednesday evening. The bill, which was introduced 10 months ago by Liberal backbencher Pablo Rodriguez, gives the government 60 days to table a detailed plan outlining how Canada will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. The bill is expected to easily pass through the Liberal dominated Senate and come into full legal force. Once this occurs, the Conservatives could face a potential challenge in the courts or a non-confidence vote in Parliament if they fail to act on it.Whether or not the Conservatives face these consequences will largely depend on the opposition's desire for an election. However, even if the Conservative minorit
Or so they say. The Liberals probably need more time so that the MSM can throw out a bunch of positive news stories about Dion. Conservatives need to take control of who actually gets to define the new leader, and they need to repudiate the attempted contrast between Dion (everybody's favourite centre-left Liberal) and Harper (the far right-wing ideologue who's going to destroy Canada as we know it). The NDP would lose many seats if they went to the polls right now. It would actually benefit them if the climate change issue lost some steam and other left-wing issues took over; otherwise the Greens would eat away at NDP support. The Bloc is always ready for an election. After all, their job is to show that Parliament doesn't work. If Parliament does work, then why separate from Canada?
As we can read in this news in Los Tiempos:http://lostiempos.com/noticias/06-12-06/06_12_06_nac16.phpPeople who think differently are no longer allowed to strike against the government, because the "people's police" will no longer allow it. Doesn't this sound familiar and reminescent of many totalitarian governments throughout history? It is really a pity that many persons do not want to see the totalitarian style of governing that MAS is taking us towards.
Liberals are "in the lead" according to the polls, Rona Ambrose is getting blasted by environmentalists, and the Conservatives broke an election promise. The opposition parties, particularly the Liberals, should be gearing up for an election soon after their leader gets chosen. If the environment issue is really the most important issue for Canadians, then why not pull the plug on this government?I dare them to. Then we'll get down to some real debate over Afghanistan and Kyoto. We'll talk about what's going well in Afghanistan, and how the Afghan people want us there, and even people like Bill Clinton strongly support the mission. We'll talk about how the media forgot to mention Dion's "fossil award", but mentioned Ambrose's 193 times. We'll also mention that the Conservative long-term targets, the subject of much ridicule, are in fact quite similar to those offered by all four Liberal leadership candidates. The Left and the mainstream media would rather the citizens of Canada n

"It is bad to be fascinated and transfixed as it were by the picture of erotic man in the Greek sense to which the picture of Christian man can be so easily - indeed, far too easily - opposed. The remarkable consequence of this far to simple opposition has been that in whole spheres of Christendom Christian love has been far too unthinkingly accepted merely as the antithesis to Greek eros and thus unconsciously depicted and extolled in the contours and colours of the original. At a first glance it is not easy to tell which of the two figures in Titian's famous painting is supposed to be heavenly love and which is earthly. For the two sisters are so much alike." President Bush sent his top advisers to the Hill on Thursday to convince congress that his new strategy for Iraq would work this time. They were met with strong bipartisan opposition as members of congress grilled Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates about the new strategy. Gates told lawmakers today that there was a new attitude among the Iraqi government and Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to cooperate and do their part in order to stop the violence in Iraq.Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Peter Pace and Secretary Gates both said it would soon be clear whether or not the Iraqi government was committed to meeting their end of the agreement. "I want you to know that the timetable for the introduction of additional U.S. forces will provide ample opportunity early on, and before many of the additional U.S. troops arrive in Iraq, to evaluate the progress of this endeavor and whether the Iraqis are fulfilling their commitments to us," Mr
