      Onward, Conservatism
Winston Churchill: “This is the lesson: never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

Onward to Becoming - Part 3
As promised, here are my spiritual goals derived from I Corinthians 13 written as if they have become a reality. As stated here, I plan to rewrite these goals daily until I live them. Some of these goals I often carry out with ease and some seem unreachable. And on my own I’ll never grasp any of them; but with God, there are no such things as impossibilities. Love is Patient - I perseve

Onward to Becoming - Part 2
Last week, I had started writing some spiritual goals for myself based on 1 Cor. 13:4-8 and shared five of these goals in this post. The day after that post, I had a meltdown of sorts...basically I unraveled into a puddle of depression...you can read that lovely (nearly incoherent) post here. All week I have wondered how to write a post with the rest of my goals and I even considered just axing th

      Onward to Becoming-Part 1
Confession…I’m complicated. Wait, you don’t need to tell me…you are complicated as well. If you are a male reading this and thinking that I’m only addressing women…sorry, you are complicated too. Most men don’t like to admit to that, but the truth is that we human beings are multidimensional...creatures layered with dreams and inhibitions, misinformation and truth, acceptance and r

That, too, did pass. The children fell asleep, eventually, and I regained my calm, and even though the night was not a peaceful one, it was fine, I managed, it was only, after all, some hours, some very few hours, out of a life that is otherwise filled with love and joy and good things (like their sweet, sweet faces and heart-bursting smiles, which I love so much, so very much, even when I'm scream

The onward march of Vince Cable: you read it here first
The Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesman is now the bookies' favourite to be the next Chancellor The Political Betting website is always worth a look and today it has a fascinating piece about the betting on Vince Cable to succeed Alastair Darling as Chancellor. The Betfair next chancellor market (something I must say I didn't know existed) now has him as favourite at 2.15/1. The site quotes a pie

      Comrade Brown: Onward!
The near schizophrenic ramblings of a certain free 'urban national newspaper' today actually showed our esteemed Dear Leader in a rather favourable light, follow the running score to see how they did it!The front cover (well, front behind a desperate BA, "Honestly we're not completely useless" ad) had a large, almost flattering portrait backed by a rather un-ambiguous red background. The article f

Onward Christian Soldiers—To the Right, March.
I recently read of attempts by American soldiers stationed in Iraq to convert the Muslim locals to Christianity. Why am I not surprised at this turn of events. It was only a matter of time before this would happen. The U.S. military has already become a captive force of the American fundies, no doubt with the blessing of their Commander-in Chief, President Bush, who has dialogues with God and has

      Onward Ho!
It's interesting how many people I know who are moving. Some are people I "know" through visiting their blogs, and others are people I know in my home town area. Moving invokes fear in some, and in others, there is a sense of excitement or anticipation...until everything hits the fan and you realize moving is just PLAIN HARD WORK. No one in their right mind loves to pack up and move. (Well, alright, there might be a few who really get a kick of that kind of thing).I think the actual moving is not the hard part, really. For many, what is the real kicker is making the decision to move. Some deliberate over this for eons and others suddenly are told- you're moving. There's all sorts of reasons why people have to -or want to- uproot themselves and get to a new location, a new town, a new state

Moving Away from Vista and Onward to Windows 7
For the end users, be them in the home or in the corporate environments, the road to Windows 7 (Seven) leads more or less to Windows Vista. But for Microsoft, there is an entirely different path altogether. The fact of the matter is that, as far as the development efforts are concerned, Vista is a wrapped up chapter. The Redmond company has already begun moving forward. Of course that Microsoft too will have intermediary stages on its way to Windows 7.A couple of them as a matter of fact in the coming year, with the availability of the first service pack for Windows Vista and the third and final service pack for Windows XP. Currently, Vista SP1 is planned for the first quarter of 2008, following the availability of Windows Server 2008, formerly code-named Longhorn, because of the shared kernel version. XP SP3 has a more relaxed launch date, as Microsoft is focusing on Vista. The third refresh for XP will be made available by mid 2008.At the same time, Microsoft is also beginning to buil

      Onward came the Chickenpants!
Marching forward in semi-orderly lines...I created one Chickenpants (and a painting to match!) a little bit ago. But my brain never quite let me stop at that...and the vintage fabric, it beckons, you know.First up is Big Jim Chickenpants A rootin, tootin, barrel chested chicken. 6.5" high,4" wideBroad at the shoulders and narrow at the hips. And everybody knows you don't give no lipto Big Jim Chickenpants. He sports a paw print ribbon belt with a "Western" button belt buckle. He's made from fuzzy fleece, non allergenic polyfill, vintage stretchy plaid fabric, a couplea beads, little bit of ribbon, and a button. All the Chickenpants plushies are my original creations. Although they follow a basic pattern, each one is unique and has different embellishments. Each one has a bit of a different personality, too.If you'd like to see more, as always, Flickr delivers. I'll be adding them to the shop as well.Up next...Chickenpants Hot Wheels!absolutelysmall.blogspot.com

      Onward Christian Soldiers
Evangelical Christians are threatening to run their own third-party candidate if Rudy Giuliani becomes the Republican nominee: The group making the threat, which came together Saturday in Salt Lake City during a break-away gathering during a meeting of the secretive Council for National Policy, includes Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family, who is perhaps the most influential of the group, as well as Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, the direct mail pioneer Richard Viguerie and dozens of other politically-oriented conservative Christians, participants said. Almost everyone present expressed support for a written resolution that ?if the Republican Party nominates a pro-abortion candidate we will consider running a third party candidate.? I think it’s hilarious and hope they get so fed up with the GOP that they do run their own candidate.  There’s just one question though. Is there a nutball out there that isn’t on the Republican ticket yet?

Onward Christian Posers - As mentioned elsewhere, the psychological birthmark of liberals is "an acute awareness of how others make them feel about themselves." This has become no more evident than during an e-mail exchange that I had with Kelly Fryer on the matter of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's (ELCA) decision to suspend a church policy that required gay and lesbian clergy to remain celibate (as discussed here.) Kelly is herself a former ELCA pastor and seminary professor, and now dedicates herself to her coaching and consulting business, A Renewal Enterprise, as well as blogging at Reclaiming the F Word. After posting my thoughts on the ELCA's recent decision here and on a sister blog at Townhall.com, I was surprised to receive a comment from Fryer. As a progressive, I agree with much of what you say hear [sic]. First point: We're not a monolithic bloc that all sees things the same way. Second, I wish that what happened at Navy Pier was really as dramatic and im

Wow, did I get a good night's sleep for once! It's going to put a dent in my workday but it should pay dividends, too, so I'm not concerned about it. Waking up free of any anxiety is awesome. Right after I finish this I do have to get to work in a big way, though. Click here and you'll see how much I've griped about sleep in the past. It's important.I'm still in a good mood. Life is on an upward trajectory right now (ah...see the pic? Upward trajectory, get it? Isn't that clever.) So, no time to write this morning but I feel obliged to make the morning post.Good day.

It was a brief foray into rantsville earlier. Sorry. We all sat down for The Talk and it went quite well. T and I decided to begin by listening (radical notion) and not getting too into issues, figuring those can be resolved over time more organically. The conversation has begun.Dinner at Swan River made them happy, which was part of the point since it was for I's birthday. It's decent food. Baby was okay, even though feeling funky. We came home and ate strawberries. K has to acolyte tomorrow, so an early night is good. Baby and B can't go to church tomorrow because of fevers today. I wish I could see K do her thing. I like church. (Remind me later that I said that...)

      The Path Onward
`The Path that leadeth on is lighted by one fire - the light of daring burning in the heart. The more one dares, the more he shall obtain.’ Helena Petrova Blavatsky As a school student I adored poems by William Wordsworth. Often in my turbulent twenties and thirties their beauty sustained me. Yet William Wordworth believed we lost our ability to experience joy in this world as we grew older. “Heaven lies about us in our infancy, Shades of the prison house begin to close, Upon the growing boy.” Yes, this can happen, but by learning to reconnect with `The Creative Spirit’ that is part of us all, we can rediscover this joy and begin to experience creativity in our daily lives. How do we do this? It is a daily walk to stay in a place of connection to the power and mystery that enables us to create. There have been many times when I have lost this joy. My `Interior Series’ was about the battle to regain this connection. The last of this series always include

It's Rick Mercer though by a long shot) The funniest Canadian of all time was John Candy. Hands down. My Papa used to install construction projects for a major bank and was walking through the Toronto airport 15 years ago, and sees this big guy coming toward him.
