      One Man Band (Annecy 2006)
Like many Pixar shorts, this film is completely free of dialogue, instead using music (played by the characters) and pantomime to tell the story.Andrew Jimenez and Mark Andrews shows us what Pixar can do with four minutes and the simplest of story lines. This short is fun because it's funny and imaginative. With one coin to make a wish at the piazza fountain, One Man Band tells the humorously captivating tale of a peasant girl who encounters two competing street performers who'd prefer the coin find its way into their tip jars. As the two one-man bands' rivalry crescendos, the two overly eager musicians vie to win the little girl's attention. You can buy Pixar Short Films Collection: Volume 1.

Technosexual: One Man’s Tale of Robot Love [Interview]
Zoltan is a 33-year-old guy from Georgia. Average height, average looks, and not a rich man. He works in an arcade, where he fixes video games for a living, and still lives with his elderly parents. No wonder he was nervous about asking his slim redheaded girlfriend Alice to marry him. To make things more tense, she had split up with Zoltan at the beginning of the relationship because she thought he was taking things too fast. Since they got back together, though, Alice has been good for Zoltan—he's started attending church again, and cut out watching porn. His parents' initial rejection of her had turned to respect, and the four of them seemed to be living together happily enough. So Zoltan had confidence when he popped the question to Alice—his beloved, who just happens to be

One Man's Search for a Cure to Cancer leads to Ability to Burn Saltwater
This is simply amazing. An inventor looking for a cure for his own cancer possibly discovered a way to burn salt water. The idea to cure his cancer has to do with injecting the cancer with nano size particles of metals. Then turning on a wave generator that will heat up the metal and destroy the cancer without harming the good tissue near it. (Though I have heard of this elsewhere). A friend had suggested that he use it to desalinate salt water. After experimentation he discovered that he could actually seperate the hydrogen from the water and burn it at incredible temperatures. Watch it here! If any of this is true - think of the ramifications!

How can one man survive the E3 media snow in?
Now that the dust has settled on E3 for another year, I’m still trying to get thru all of the content. I wanted to look back and reflect.. …on how damn difficult it is to keep up to date on everything that happened! E3 finished a few days ago(when this was written) and I still have over a hundred feeds to read just on the event itself. Its ridiculous. Just to stress the ridiculousness here is a run down of everything that I had prepared for E3 Basically everybody wants news, screenshots and a comprehensive list of video. Pretty simple right? I am a keen IGN subscriber, so I get all of my news and screens from there. Overall they do a pretty comprehensive job. Although their video is a bit lacking, so GameTrailers cover me here. IGN sometimes misses some of the smaller, more interesting announcements, so I subscribe to another gaming feed which fills in all the gaps. Here’s the run down of articles, this includes pre-E3: IGN Playstation 2 – 70 articles

The Irony of Admonition: or, the logical coherence of one man's campaign against television...
I recently read a friend's post about the oftentimes deleterious effects of watching television and was reminded of a story that my NT professor told last semester. He had been a missionary for many years in the UK, and one day his team leader gathered all the team members together for an impromptu meeting. As it turned out, he had been recently troubled and concerned about the effects of television on people, and his team members in particular. He went on and on for quite a while about the danger and horrors of too much T.V., or any T.V. for that matter. Very passionate about what he was talking about, the leader went on for about twenty minutes sharing his concern. At the end of his tirade speech and the apex of his argumentation, the leader gave one final exhortation: So, those of you with a T.V., Watch it!

      One man’s fight for reason
Al Gore’s latest book, The Assault on Reason, is a compilation of essays that deal with our country’s lack of debate in matters at the heart of democracy nowadays. Everything Gore argues resonates strongly with me, yet I almost wish the book was written by someone else — I like Gore, but the people who most need to read his book will likely steer clear because of the name on the cover. And it’s a shame, because Gore stays fairly restrained in his partisan beliefs for the most part, instead focusing on the root causes of today’s destruction of democracy (a problem perpetuated by both parties) and puts forth some initial steps in regaining our ability to think critically about what’s best for ourselves, our country, and our world. Plus, it’s chock full of Thomas Jefferson quotes — who doesn’t love those?

      One man,two wheels
They shot me in a drive by.It was an accident. One minute I’m walking along the Liverpool street thinking my own thoughts .Next minute I’m on the ground in a pool of blood wondering what had happened. I wasn’t to know a drug dealer was walking beside me and that he was supposed to have been ‘taken out’ by the local militia. Instead, they damned near helped me shake off life’s mortal coil. Bitter? Yeah, I suppose I was for the first five years but, well it’s been a few years now and now I think it was probably a good thing to happen to me. Most times. The wheels get in the way sometimes, especially when you’re socializing. The ladies only see them and don’t think you can perform, if you get my drift. Well, if they don’t see any further than my wheels they’ll never know what they’re missing. Fortunately, not all women are born equal and even more fortunately I was lucky to meet one of the rare perceptive ones. She was…. Ah, but that’s maybe for her to tell

Curtis Blues: Delta Blues Reincarnated in a One Man Band
There is something about the early history of the blues that really speaks to me. After first discovering blues through artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton and Led Zeppelin (and others like the White Stripes) I’ve been interested in the early days; the music that influenced these artists. Backtracking my way through the blues it wasn’t long before I was consumed by artists like Son House, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Blind Willie McTell, Leadbelly, Willie Dixon, Charlie Patton, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Robert Jr. Lockwood and of course Robert Johnson (plus many others). There is just something so raw and powerful about these artists that I immediate identify with and respect. Although I also love electric blues and blues rock, but I will always have a very deep respect for each and every one of these early artists because with just a guitar and their voice, they changed music forever. There have been lots of blues players over the years always adding their own p

One Man’s Trash: Southern Rock with a little Pop, Blues Swagger and Fun
At the recommendation of one of it’s members, I recently checked out southern rock band One Man’s Trash. I don’t claim to be a country aficionado as I could never really get into much country music other than J.J. Cale and Johnny Cash. Maybe its because I live in Chicago or maybe its because I haven’t spent nearly enough time on the back of a horse to fully appreciate it, I don’t know. I do know a bit about southern rock and blues though, as I’m a big fan of Bob Dylan, ZZ Top, the Allman Brothers Band and Creedence Clearwater Revival. I don’t know if I’d call One Man’s Trash a country rock band, southern rock, country pop or what. At first I thought they were a little country rock band but the more I listen to their music, the more I think that doesn’t do them justice. They definitely have a country twang ranging from slight to major depending on the song, but they also have catchy pop choruses, a great blues swagger an

      One Man's Trash...
Here's another one of those stories that will make book lovers around the world sick to their stomachs. It seems that a used book store owner couldn't (or wouldn't) pay his rent. As a result, his stock of 500,000 used books was locked up by the owner of the building. And, yes, you guessed it. All 500,000 were eventually just thrown into the dump. The books belonged to used bookseller Paul Saindon, who was evicted from his store in the Vieux Longueuil district three months ago for not paying rent. After the building's owner threatened to throw the books into the garbage, the city decided to put the books into storage temporarily at its own cost, La Presse reported. The city tried to find someone to take the books before dumping them, but no one wanted them, a spokesperson said.I suppose that I should try to be more understanding when I read this kind of news. After all, the city in question should not have had to foot the storage costs or the cost of shipping these books to othe

One Man Revisits His Old Books
I believe that most of us are overwhelmed at times when we look at our bookshelves and realize how many of the books are still unread despite having been on the shelves for months or even for years. Then we begin to think about those books that we read one or more decades ago and which have remained closed ever since we finished them. And, of course, there's the problem that we all have in finding shelf space for the dozens of books that we continue to bring home every year. The forest has indeed become so large that we no longer can spot the trees.Dmetri Kakmi, a senior editor at Penguin Books Australia, has recently recognized the problem and has done something about it. He's completed a massive culling of his shelves, eliminating everything that he no longer holds in high esteem or which he is not likely to read again. And he claims that he feels better for having done it. I don't know if I will ever have the nerve to take this particular approach with my own bookshelves b
