Ink and wash rendering of an old school house in southern California east of Solvang near Santa Barbara. I drew this from a book illustrated by Earl Thollander called Backroads of California. Earl passed away in 2001. He was a tremendous illustrator who could use many mediums but did much of his work with a bamboo pen and india inks. He had the ability to make something out of nothing with his style. TheFunded.com has been a big deal in the startup world. It allows entrepreneurs to write about their experiences meeting with venture capitalist while staying anonymous. TheFunded.com has become such a big deal because no one knew who was behind it. That and most of the reviews were negative, aggravating named VCs. The suspense even reached outside the blogosphere with magazines such as Inc. wondering “Who’s behind TheFunded.com?“.
Last night at an event at Stanford, Aedo Ressi announced he is the founder of TheFunded.com. This is a classic PR mystery move, I couldn’t but see it as a linkbait move as well. Ressi’s site received as much publicity for its unknown founder as it did for its function, reviewing venture firms. Since the story of who ran TheFunded.com has quieted down in past months, Ressi comes out and sets the startup/tech blogs pumping out articles again (like so).

Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine is proudly old-school when it comes to his musical favorites. But at 28, he already feels a generation gap between himself and many of his fans.

I remember, once upon a time, when having to complete my "Book Reports" was a must and having to do "Essay Writing" was a daily chore.
It's not the easiest time ever, but one of the most enjoyable nonetheless. Comparing to the past and the present (schooling and working life), I most definitely prefer the carefree life of being a full time student.

I was check out YouTube today and found an awesome commercial for the Legend of Zelda on the Super Famicom. First I watched the video and felt joy. Second I sat in front of my computer for about 30 seconds. Third I went “WTF is a Super Famicom?” Fourth I googled it and found out that it’s basically the same thing as the Super NES aka Super Nintendo. Nice!

Here's the first paper-fight summer sunday mixtape! I've put together some old-school mid/late 90s electronica, mostly british stuff.
British electronica went through some fascinating iterations in the 90s, from the early 1990s post-rave ambient house (VERY under-represented here, but see the ORB track) to the 1994-1995 rich layered psychadelic-samplefests (FSOL - Among Myselves). As the mid 90s carried on, we saw electronica mix with british indie, headed by the Chemical Brothers, Fluke, etc. The staggering Surgeon / Mogwai remix is a hightlight of this entire decade. On the dance side, LTJ Bukems Good Looking label was unstoppable, I think the two records here, 'Atlantis' and 'Alpha-7' does its back catalogue from this time some justice, though there was a LOT of output here, and i'm sure everyone has their favourites.
