I'm sure by now most of us have seen Old Navy's knockoff version of the Mike & Chris Bailey Hoodie (with a hefty price tag of $308).You have to admit it is freakin' adorable. I few months ago Old Navy made the decision to pull plus sizes from their stores. I and many other bloggers made our opinions be known on how we felt about the issue. A few days ago I received an invitation to join there affiliate that is when I discovered that they still sell plus size clothes, but they are available only online. There where some questions and concerns that I needed answered before I accepted their invitation. The email to the affiliate program was not working so I decided to post it here and let it float around the blogsphere and get your opinion on this situation.

There have been several online new sites in the last couple of days reporting on the fact that Old Navy will be removing their plus size clothing line from their stores. It's sad to see that such a big chain will be closing it's doors to a whole lot of curves, and a whole lot of business!Glen L. Apparently Old Navy is pulling it’s line of plus size clothes. Theyr’e heading on to their store on the internet. No more will you be able to walk into an Old Navy store and browse around their plus size clothes.
Old Navy is a store owned by Gap inc (which owns a whole lot of other stuff too). They started in California and have had up to 900 stores, so they’re a pretty major enterprise. We wonder how they decided that it was a good business decision to destock clothes that a huge percentage of American women buy.
Maybe they weren’t selling well. Well if that’s the case they’d better look at themselves first, because plus size clothes sell extremely well. They should, it’s estimated that around 40% or more of the US market wear size 14 or bigger.
So if they weren’t selling well then maybe it’s something they did wrong, like fail to market them properly.

There has been a general buzz about Old Navy and the discontinuation of plus size clothing in there stores. I remember back almost three years ago when I blogged about it I thought that it was going to be a banner day for plus size clothing making it to the mainstream.
Looks like I was wrong. Some of the reasons that I think they got cold feet and have decided to pull out of carrying plus sizes are pretty obvious.
Lack of promotion – To this day there where many men and women that had no clue that Old Navy ever carried larger sizes at all. How can folks buy if they don’t know?
Lack of vision – The buyers for Old Navy missed the reports about the $22 billion spent on plus size clothing. Or pay attention to the predictions of a 15% growth expectation in spending.
Lack of heart – When they made there announcement in 2004 Old Navy and Wal-Mart were the only major non-specialty stores to carry plus size clothing. With Old Navy getting cold feet only Wal-Mart remains.
