My best friend and her family just headed home after a overnight visit. It may sound strange that we haven't seen each other for a good part of the year, nor talked or even e-mailed much, and yet I call her my best friend. She and her family live in Boston, and we are only an hour away, but our lives are such that we don't get a chance to see each other often. Family, work, finances, stress - t
Last night I posted that I was heading out the door to meet my best friend 'Flan', and another friend from high school that I hadn't seen in years. I thought it was about 18 or 19 but I remembered that I saw her briefly about 15 years ago from across the room at a friends wedding, but since we never actually talked I won't count that. LOL.
Well, you know my dearest and oldest best friend Flan
What can I say? Not sure really, it just seems that my endlessfountain of news, gossip, wit, and unusual things occasionallysomehow run on the borderline of dry. Does that mean thatmy restaurant cast of characters or gal pals have suddenlybecome run of the mill? uuummmm......NOT!!! I have onewaitress fretting over her son being arrested AGAIN, anotherwaitress who is supposedly attending classes as to how to leada drug-free life testing positive with a random drug test she wassubjected to, and a cook whose automobile-related run ins withthe police continue to accumulate. As far as my friends go, Lolais back in Alaska, Michelle claims that this time she is DONE with the ex-loser boyfriend, Sandra is less than impressed with my matchmaking efforts for her, and Francesca is, well, simplyFran
I am trying a new image hosting service so this particular blog is intended to test this service. That being said, I was wading through some pictures last night. I came across some old friends that I dearly miss. The pictures were taken in 2003 and 2004. I hope you enjoy them. i know they brought back many pleasant memories for me.These are the Easter ducks we got in 2003 when we lived in De Leon. We went to the Tractor Supply in Stephenville and picked them out. Then we went to Wal-Mart and bought a pool for them. The yellow duckling was Ferdy, the brown duckling was Ducky. I can't remember the black ducklings name. This another shot from a low angle that shows the world from their vantage point. This is Molly, the Black Lab. She loved the water, anywhere and anytime she was in it. As you

From The Politico:Last weekend, the prestigious black-tie, closed-to-press Alfalfa Club dinner featured former Secretary of State Colin Powell, D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty, a host of members of Congress and, of course, President Bush. But we hear it wasn't the campaign digs of Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) that raised eyebrows, but rather Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and her chumminess with GOP Svengali Karl Rove.Sources say the two seemed to be enjoying a grand old time together, laughing and being very playful, which has the chattering class, well, chattering.[...]We tried to find out whether Collins is Rove's BFF, but he e-mailed that he was "running for [the] airport" and didn't elaborate. As for Collins she said: "It is a great opportunity to catch up with a lot of old friends, includin

How joyful is the reunion with old friends. No matter how long you have been apart, it always seems like it was no time at all. They remind you of who you are. That the people who you care about remain a part of you. That they are with you in spirit all along.
This weekend Allison and I caught up on some taped shows like Burn Notice and PSYCH. We were two weeks behind on Burn Notice and caught up with two episodes that introduced us to Michael's broth...

The one thing that struck me about Burn Notice last evening is, “How does Michael Westen afford those suits?” I mean, he was burned, left with nothing and was dropped in Miami. He has nothing, so how...

I just got an e-mail from a friend from way back. He used to babysit our kids and for a short period of time lived with us. We havent seen Chuck in about 16 years. Dan and I had tried to find him from time to time but with the name Chuck Elliott, I might as well have tried to find John Smith, somewhere USA maybe.... Anyway, it was so good to hear from him and it just made me smile to think of him.
Well it has been a busy week at Rockhoppers. Last night was our Clinton Days meeting and it was semi-productive. We had a few chess and go people on Monday, and I talked to Roy on Monday and he is doing well for having just had open heart surgery. We have been getting a lot of visitors on the island and that is always a good thing and the weather has been gorgeous! Summer has begun.
I finally broke down and hired someone to do my gardening and housekeeping. When you are not home much it is difficult to get these chores done and I am tired of being embarassed by my house! I am also work
We seem to be enjoying just about the wettest and stormiest May ever. There has been more than a week of wind, wet and tempest, thunder, lightening and deluge. Some very dear and good friends of mine from Cornwall chose this week to enjoy some of their precious holiday time with a trip to the Dordogne. Normally at this time of year the ochre earth would be dusty and the air scented with wild thyme, not knee deep puddles and leaden sky. So to cheer them along with their holiday I persuaded dear old HBB to drive us for seven hours to go and visit them. We had a very very convivial two days, the sun spattered through, we ate a lot of very good food, drank a lot of excellent wine and then drank some more and enjoyed the company of old friends. I love it when, despite not seeing each other much, over the years an easy familiarity builds so that when we do get together it is like putting on a good pair of well worn-in boots. Warm and comfortable, they enable you to climb any mountain, weathe
I never imagined us growing older together, we were so caught up in being young. Our hearts were strong, our heads were even stronger. There was no way to convince us that we didn't know it all. The hours we shared pushing ourselves so close to empty will forever be etched upon my heart. The most memorable days of my...
"Old Friends"7X9WatercolorNFSI am thinking OLD today. My father, who is 89, is in Florida and is suffering from a serious hip problem. He is the original WWII tough guy who is stoic through all things. One hip has already been replaced and now the second one is going. It's killing me. I can only imagine how much it hurts him. So we are off to Florida to attend to him and do what ever he needs for a few days. We don't know yet if he is going in for the second hip replacement. Certainly he cannot go forward with the kind of pain he has at the moment, so we will see what can be done.My painting is on hold for a bit and I will be back ASAP. This watercolor painting was something I did for a friend's birthday a couple of years ago, sort of as a semi-private joke between the two of us. We are always saying that when we are old we will have our little dogs and wear hats. (the funny thing about that is that I look dreadful in hats, have never been able to wear them and would be l
Terrence is visiting for one last weekend before he moves to Seattle to play in the IBL for a few months. He flew from Atlanta on Friday night, and I met him at my apartment after getting a pedicure and stopping by Magnolia Bakery. I've decided that my favorite street in Manhattan is West 11th Street between West 4th and Bleeker. See the phone photo op below.Saturday night, Tokii (who had just returned yesterday from her Spring Break spent at home in Raleigh and left today for New Orleans to do post-Hurricane Katrina volunteer service with The Juilliard School), Terrence and I met up with an old college friend named BJ. His girlfriend's best friend (a New Yorker) was having a birthday party at a lounge called Honey on West 14th Street so BJ and his girlfriend had flown up from North Carolina, where they both attend law school.Just before a second round of drinks, we were reminiscing about our college days in Cullowhee. We laughed about the night Ms. Sue Ella charged into BJ's dorm r
Around eight years ago, I remember reading "How to Talk to Anyone" by Leil Lowndes.
One of her top tips for boosting your charisma was to treat new associates just like old friends. Literally, trick your mind into believing they're a true bosom-buddy you haven't seen for years.
You'll instantly be more relaxed, suggests Leil, and you'll come across as more authentic.
Well, it works. I've used
funny how currents carry us. faces that are old to me are new to them for now, becoming old. part of me longs so much for that world I've left behind, to be back and in it now like bygone times. but my eyes are different, my hands, the soles of my feet.i hold my daughters hands to fall asleep myself.i wake into their dawn.i be.
