      Live-blogging the Canucks-Oilers game
Ah, the negativity surrounding the Canucks re-ensues as the Oilers come to the Garage to try to play Spoilers tonight. To prove the negativity up here in Smithers I posted the pic to the left. It was from a great Canucks fan who is also my cousin. But don't great Canucks fans hang in there with their team until the very end? I know Mr. Positivity is hangin', so everybody jump back on board until this game is over.Go Blues and Go Nucks!-0-0 Preds and Blues with 8:00 left in period 1.- 3-2 Preds with 13:00 left. Can you believe it? Jan Hlavac is back to haunt his old team. 3 assists for the inconsistent homeless one. This is terrible. The Preds have won 3-2. So now you got to think the Canucks know this fact, and it will be interesting to see how they respond. We will now hope for the Nucks t

Edmonton Oilers @ Calgary Flames - NHL

Wedding Cake Topper of the Day....New York Rangers and Edmonton Oilers Cake Topper
IT'S A FACE OFF FOR TRUE LOVE!!Yes hockey fans when the New York Rangers and The Edmonton Oilers battle it out on the ice it's a big day in this household...You can see that the bride is an Oilers fan from way back ....and the lucky groom's team is the New York Rangers....so it's likely that someone will be in a more celebratory mood at the finish of the game...However with these custom made wedding cake toppers there are no losers....both bride and groom get a personalized memento of their wedding day to treasure long after any hockey "dust" has settled...In fact their love has won them the Stanley Cup!!...and the pet cat and shelty collie dog are always tagging along to the game....The bride and groom are even posing atop a hockey puck with their names and date on it for that totally fin

Minnesota Wild @ Edmonton Oilers - NHL

      Canucks-Oilers:Period-by-period (Oilers 5 Canucks 4 in a shootout)
PERIOD 1The Oilers played a massive tenacious 1st period and were rewarded with a 3-1 lead. I'd say the Canucks need to slow them down somehow, but first they have to be able to keep up with them.Even Alex Burrow's shorthanded beauty breakaway goal couldn't stem the tide late in the period as Horcoff bagged a PP goal just afterwards. The Oilers came into this game last in the NHL with the man advantage. You couldn't tell here tonight. They have 2 PP goals already. This looks bad if the Oilers don't let up a little. They have all the momentum right now. And Garon looks just as sharp as he was the last time we played them. The Canucks are last in the NHL in faceoff wins and that is very evident now, as we don't want to be giving the Oilers too much puck possession....or to many powerplays either.Shots after 1:Oilers 11Canucks 7PERIOD 2-I think Oilers fans are going to feel violated after the 2nd period, as the Oilers outshot Vancouver 14-4, continuing their ferocious attack, but it w

      Canucks-Oilers Preview
The last time the Oilers and Canucks played was on the 14th and Ales Hemsky broke our hearts with a shootout winning goal. It was a great 1-0 game...far from boring. Luongod and Garon were stellar. I wonder if MacT goes with Garon tonight. He'd be smart to do so. Since that night, the Oilers have lost to the Wild and Flames, and on the exact flipped side of that, we beat those same 2 teams.Mike Wilson was called up from Manitoba yesterday, but isn't expected to play until Wednesday against Minnesota. Wilson is more of a goon...so you know the Canucks are all about "muscling the Wild". Can't wait.Luongo will start tonight, and Curtis Sanford will play against the Wild.Sami Salo is expected back sometime this week with a full protective mask on.Random statsThe Canucks are 10th in the NHL on the powerplay and 20th on the PK.The Oilers are 30th on the PP and 12th on the PK.Should be a beauty. I say the Canucks get their revenge tonight and win 3-1.Gametime: 6:00 PM PacificTV: Sportsnet

      Oilers 1 Canucks 0 (SO)
“I don’t think we did exactly the right thing,” Brendan Morrison said after the shootout. “[Garon] is out so far initially to challenge, we should’ve come in with some speed, then slowed up so we got his rhythm off, his timing off. But, I mean, everyone tried to deke. We should’ve maybe tried to keep it simple and get a couple of shots.” A sad loss to the Coilers last night, but hard to feel overly bad about as we get a point, Luongo gets the shutout, and for a 1-0 game it was pretty damned entertaining. What the hell is up with this Garon guy in Edmonton? For a big goalie he sure is mobile, much like Luongo is.-I'm not sure about the decision to use Byron Ritchie in the shootout. He must have had some sweet moves that the coaches saw in practice.-Anytime a goalie successfully pokechecks a player in the shootout, like Garon did to Morrison, I like it. Anytime a goalie goes for the pokecheck and misses, he looks stupid.-Hemsky's winner was a thing of beauty. Admit it.-Can

      Canucks/Oilers Preview
I am going to keep this short and sweet as I am busy at work. The Oilers are coming off 3 losses in a row coming into Vancouver tonight, all to divisional opponents. The Canucks are coming off 3 wins, all over divisional opponents. So do the math. The Canucks' last win was at home, something they had not done for a while. The Sedins are hot, baby.Vancouver looks to have their game back and I expect a win tonight. Let's say...5-3.The Oilers are damned quick though....and young. So the Canucks will have to slow them down with their difensive prowess and frustrate the Coilers. Expect a wild and physical affair. Is Jeff Cowan ready? If he is, he may take Linden's spot. When is Jannik Hansen going to score? He's overdue because his effort is there. An interesting stat from Canucks.com...the Oilers have not won a game yet this year when trailing after 1 period. Wahahahaha!Game time: 7:00 PSTTV: TSN T Tags: Canucks Oilers Preview

      When Oilers cry......
What is it about players who played in Edmonton being the biggest crybabies. It must something in the water. I see even Jari Kurri likes to wear a skirt. Brokeback City.....Anyway, I just watched Messier's retired number ceremony, and the Moose crying his eyes out. Since I'm still snarky over the Canucks' loss I figured I would take a jab at the Coilers. Scary thing tho, folks. The Canucks are tied with the Oilers for last spot in the Northwest Division after the Oilers beat the Ducks last night and we lost to the Wings. Technically though, we have scored more goals than them and win that in the tie breaker. Who would have thought Vancouver would be struggling this badly already?T Tags: Oilers babies crying

Canucks 5 Oilers 3: Back on Track / Boulerice pays price
I missed the first 2 periods of this one because of working a 13 hour day, so all I saw was the Canucks shutting down the Coilers in the 3rd and Naslund's great flukey goal.Good to see Rypien score a goal and add an assist, and Burrows accomplish the same output.I now have full confidence that the Canucks are actually back on track. What do you think of Boulerice's 25 game suspension? It matches the longest suspension in NHL history. ''In Chris Simon's situation and the situation with Jesse Boulerice, if they cause injury we're into a whole heap of problems,'' said Colin Campbell. ''Not only the player but the teams and our league and our sport. We saw what transpired under the Bertuzzi (and) McSorley situations when there is injury, it never stops. So I would hope players would understand and see what could happen and what can come of these things and that they have to control themselves.'' What I found strange about Boulerice after he bashed in Kesler's face was that he g

      Canucks - Oilers Preview
It can't get any worse than Wednesday night's 8-2 killing by the Flyers can it? Probably not. But I have temporarily lost faith in the Canuck's abilities to do much of anything. The Flyers made the Canucks look like slugs with their speedy game, and their ability to move the puck around so quickly. They looked like they have been around eachother for years, even though that team was gutted and reformed in the past 2 years. The Oilers have the same ability to make us look like pylons. They use a speedy aggressive style. The Canucks are not the quickest team and need to get back to Vigneault Basics. Meaning: clog up the neutral zone and slow the opposing team down. Vancouver's "running around in their own zone" on Wednesday night was very uncharacteristic of this team under Vigneault. Expect an adjusted effort tonight. Expect new line combos. I will update the Canucks' roster this afternoon as the info becomes available, since Ryan Shannon was sent back down to Manitoba on Thursday.

Bye bye Cloutier / PS3 rules / Quick Canucks-Oilers recap
The Kings have placed Dan Cloutier on waivers today, due mostly to his injury problems and poor play when he wasn't hurt. This solves the crowded crease dilemna for the Kings. Is anyone going to take Clouts on now? Who? Probably stay in Manchester so that his contract doesn't count against the Kings ($3.1 MILLION. Sorry Crow, but that was a bad hunch you had of the netminder. Just got my Playstation 3 in the mail yesterday, and I already had NHL 08, just waiting for the system to come in. Let me say, I am damned impressed with both. I just can't score goals yet in 08. It's tough! The AI is just terrific. I just need to get used to the controls and all of the playmaking skills and concepts. The game looks absolutely brilliant. But if you don't tighten up defensively, you get smoked. Ales Hemsky scored 5 goals against myself and Temujin last night because we played like the Canucks of 1996. Not even Luongod could save us. The new jerseys for each team look good. But you have to inser

      Ryan Smyth the "Oilers Killer"
I noticed this at Battle of Alberta yesterday. Ryan Smyth said in the Rocky Mountain News on Thursday: "Well, hopefully, I can be an Oiler killer. Some teams you play well against, some teams you don’t. I don’t know about impressions. You go out and play and perform, and you try to do it every night, but it just so happened to work out against these guys." I guess by "these guys" he was referring to when he was an Oiler playing against the Avalanche. Well now the tables have turned, and so has Oiler fans' feelings and emotions about their long lost hero of days past, Ryan Smyth. I think Sacamano at BOA said it best in his post: That goofy-grinned, greasy haired, goalie interfering ding-dong is an Avalanche now. It's unnatural to have feelings any more amicable than general disdain for those contemptible jerks.Well, now Oiler fans are going to get a taste of what Canucks fans have had to put up with since 1995. Do I feel bad for Oil fans? Hell no! I laugh at them! But in a sense

      Oilers sign Sheldon Souray
Kevin Lowe has redeemed himself a little today, landing the much-coveted Sheldon Souray. The terms have not been released yet. **UPDATE** a 5-year deal worth $27 million bucks!!! Hey, that's less than I thought! The 6'4" 220-pound Souray had a career year last season (go figure, in a contract season), scoring 26 goals and 64 points. Insanely enough, Souray only has 66 goals and 186 points in 506 NHL games. So the 31 year-old is either hitting his prime, or excelled in a contract year and will, as Hodge puts it, blow his knee out in Edmonton. Expect the latter, haha! Souray has been playing in the NHL for 9 seasons and has surpassed the 80-game mark only once.At least Lowe now has some scoring from the point with Souray, Pitkanen and Tarnstrom. Lowe was sitting at about $31 million in cap spending prior to signing Souray. So you have to think he signed him for something in the range of $6-7 million just to lure him to a team that no one wants to go to. Well, Souray did say this today:

Former Oilers DB star Norton dies at 68
HOUSTON — Jim Norton, a four-time AFL All-Star safety and an original member of the Houston Oilers, has died. He was 68. Norton died June 12 in Garland, a Dallas suburb, according to an obituary released by the Gonzalez Funeral Home. A cause of death was not given. Born in Los Angeles, Norton was a three-sport athlete at Fullerton Union High School. He played football for four seasons at Idaho before he was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 1960. He never played for the Lions, instead more…

      Canucks 2 Oilers 1
"We knew they were going to be working hard and we had our hands full getting the two points," Daniel Sedin said after the game. "I don't think you could say they have been outplayed the last 10 games. It was a tough game and we deserved the two points. We had a game in hand on Minnesota, so it was key to get the win tonight." The Canucks fired 38 shots at Dwayne Roloson, and really progressed as the game went along. The Oilers had 37 shots on Luongo, and took it to the Canucks in the early going. Luongo was just a little bit better than Roloson. The Sedins had 4 points altogether and are playing alot better of late.Trevor Linden played very well. He scored a typical Linden PP goal and played over 16:00. Notice Jeff Cowan's icetime below. Notice Bryan Smolinski's icetime below. My 3 stars:1. Roberto Luongo2. Daniel Sedin3. Dwayne RolosonEven if you are a Canucks fan and you hate the Oilers, it's time to start cheering for them. Especially in their last 3 games of the season, where

      Canucks / Oilers Preview
A guy named Hangers posted at the Canucks.com Forum that he is going to the Oilers game tonight. He was wondering if anyone could give him an idea of what to put on a sign. The Forum members were quick to give suggestions, including:"Double D's aren't the only Cup Cowan's getting this year!""Stortini wears pink panties!""SALO - FINNISH MACINNIS." (Salo is not playing tonight)"GO RYAN SMYTH GO!!!""Who DOESN'T want to leave Edmonton? Even Gretzky didn't stick around, so stop crying""Whats the view like from below?""City of Losers.""you can't spell oilers without loser"If I could make up one, perhaps I'd say: "The only thing that's hot in Edmonton right now is Rachel Hunter!"or maybe: "Learn how to spell, Edmonton, it's 'C-O-I-L-E-R-S'!"So, what about tonight's game? Should be an absolute ass-kicking, right? Well hold on for a second. Let's not assume anything. What we will need to see from the Canucks again tonight is a consistent effort against a lousy team in a game follow

      Oh the Oilers...
Are they ever going to win again?! And not sure how many of you all watched the Anaheim Canucks game last night...but...I am still in shock...and I think I am going to go watch it again. (And just so you know Canucks had 4 hits...and the Ducks had 22) pretty crazy night.

Thoughts about the Oilers and Bruins
"It doesn't hurt, playing in the playoffs and having the success that we did," Ryan Smyth said after last night's 4-3 win over Detroit. "We had pretty good success this year against them (3-1-0), and we just wanted to carry some momentum." The Oilers will have to carry alot of momentum soon. Suddenly they have won 2 in a row and are only 5 points behind 8th place Calgary in the West. This after losing 4 in a row, including 2 in the shootout during their Eastern Conference road trip. The Oilers will play Calgary only 2 more times in their last 20 games. However, they will play the Wild 5 more times in those remaining 20. The Oilers trail the 7th-place Wild by 7 points. That 5 game swing will be a major difference in their playoff fate. Currently the Oilers have won 2 and lost 1 to Minnesota this season. They will have to play better in their last 20 than they did last season, where they won only 9 games to finish 8th in the West , 3 points ahead of Vancouver, who won 7 of their last
