Two weeks ago, the Dolphins surprised the Patriots with a single wing offense with which they scored five touchdowns against the defending AFC champs. The Chargers are covering all their bases this week as they get ready for Ronnie Brown and company.
All season, we’ve heard about this Broncos offense “firing on all cylinders.” A sack and two turnovers later, this offense is lucky to be in the game at all.
Brandon Marshall fumbled the football on a reverse, and the Chiefs’ Brandon Flowers recovered and ran it to the 2-yard line. The Broncos challenged the [...]

I have been gone to BASIC training for 10 weeks and I am back to a civilian lifestyle. It was a real learning experience and I made friends there, but the most important thing for me was volunteering to serve the country at a time of its greatest need. I missed my hoops and at least was able to see TEAM USA implementing the dribble drive offense. It was a beautiful to see our country back on top i
I think the heart of the matter comes down to asking, what makes an offense great, or really, what is the goal of an offense? The obvious answer is to help their team win. Ok, but how? When an offense steps on the field, is their goal to gain as many yards as possible? Or to gain as many yards per play? I don’t think it's either. I would even argue that their goal isn’t to score as many points

Fresno State fans to this point have addressed their worries as to how the Bulldogs are going to be able to stop opposing team’s offenses. While our front line on defense should be strong the best answer as to how the Bulldogs will stop the other team’s offense is through the use of our own. I realize this may sound confusing but sometime’s a team’s best defense is their offense when it

Chargers expert Michael Lombardo takes Bolts fans inside one of the team’s favorite alignments: the pro-set offense. What are the variations of this offense? What makes it so effective? And how does Norv Turner tweak it to create mismatches for his star players? Find out all the answers inside this week’s edition of Playbook Profile.
The New York Yankees just dropped an atomic bomb on the Texas Rangers, hammering them 18-7. A win is a win, and a win like this is always amusing to watch. 9 of those runs came in the 7th inning. Giambi drove in 6 of them, four by way of a Grand Salami.
This is weird. [...]
New Manager Spreading the Heat Around
Jerry Manuel is not afraid to speak his mind. The Mets have scored just 6 runs in their last four games and is focusing his frustration on just about everyone. The one getting the most heat is hitting coach Howard Johnson. Hojo has been put on alert by Manuel and may be the next head to roll in this inexplicably disappointing season.

Joe Sheehan had an article today arguing that the Indians should keep Sabathia, and make a run at the division. Someone should probably get Sheehan and Tyler Kepner together for a little chat. The article mentions various metrics, including their run differential (+15) and EqA (11th in the AL).For most teams, in most years, that'd be sufficient. But for the 2008 Indians, I don't think it is. T

What is going on with the Denver Broncos? This offseason has been nothing more than an injury-riddled continuation of 2007.

The O’s are now back at .500 as they lost to the A’s in Oaktown, 2-1. The loss is their third in a row; however, we should take some positives from the loss. After a devastating series loss to the Angels out in sunny California, they once again lost in a painful fashion.First, Garrett Olson went a little more than six shutout innings, and looked nothing like the wide-eyed kid who could not keep his pitches in the strike zone last year. It’s too bad he didn’t get the decision; however, the A’s starter, Dana Eveland was just as good on the mound as he threw seven shutout innings and allowed only three hits.Emil Brown had three hits, including the game-winning single with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, to decide the game. Rajai Davis drove in the other run for Oakland on

"Representatives of the United Methodist Church turned back attempts to liberalize its policy on homosexuality Wednesday. Almost 1,000 delegates to the church's General Conference rejected a committee proposal, leaving in place the position that the practice of homosexuality is "incompatible with Christian teaching.""The General Conference, which meets every four years, is the only assembly that can set policy for the 7.9 million-member church. The Record's Bob Klapisch thinks so:It's not Joba Chamberlain's confinement to the eighth inning. It's not Ian Kennedy's or Phil Hughes' wobbly starts. Instead, it's the offense, which led the major leagues with 968 runs last year but before Tuesday night's 9-5 victory over the White Sox, was averaging just 4.3 runs per game, last in the American League East. What’s wrong? Just about everything: The veterans have either been hurt (Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada) or useless (Johnny Damon and Jason Giambi). Perhaps the most surprising under-performance of the month is coming from Robinson Cano, who signed a four-year, $30 million deal over the winter, and since has sputtered his way to a .173 average.Despite that zero-sweat style of play, Cano has flourished in pinstripes; he batted .342 in 2006

Waverly, Iowa (ThaLunatic Daily) -- Things are going blissfully well in Waverly Iowa, a small college town that's about 60 miles north east of Des Moines . The community is so free of problems, that Waverly police have begun handcuffing, jailing and prosecuting evildoers over major offenses - like $10 parking fines.Meet Meaghan Hagensick. She is a Wartburg student who learned the hard way that Waverly will not tolerate high priority crime like parking tickets.Hagensick was arrested, handcuffed and escorted directly to jail by multiple police officers because she failed to pay a $10 fine. This was not however the first time Coman had been caught having sex with a dog. Coman was on probation for a similar conviction in Reno County when he was arrested Feb. 19 in Wichita. The sticking point in the case was whether or not Coman should be placed on sex offender registry.Coman's attorney argued that the state's registered offender law was designed to protect humans, not "livestock, domestic pets or anything else, be they birds or insects. Sen. Collins is, of course, entitled to attack Rep. Allen for accepting donations from participants in a Moveon.org fundraising effort. But does it really make sense for the junior senator to focus attention on campaign cash? After all, according to the most recent data, Sen. Collins has generated about twice as much money from PACs as she has from Mainers. She's raised more from business PACs than she has from Mainers. And she's raised more than twice as much money from out of state donors as she has from Mainers. In short, it's no stretch to say that Collins' campaign has been fueled, overwhelmingly, by out of state business interests: Donors who know, based on experience that when given a choice, Collins will happily vote with the corporate community and against ordinary Mainers. If the Coll
There's nothing particularly objectionable about Sen. Collins' Op-Ed on fuel prices and energy independence. But that's actually part of the problem.Because there's no way to end our country's reliance on foreign oil ("addiction" is too weak a word) without offending either big business or the oil companies, environmentalists or the automakers--or all of the above:Do we spend staggering sums of money on research in development in a way that crowds out other spending? Do we make a national commitment to nuclear power and wind farms? Do we allow more oil drilling in Alaska, the gulf coast and just about everywhere in between? These are difficult questions; they desperately need to be answered. But answering them is bound to anger somebody.Yet Sen. Collins--even as she calls for a "Herculean effort"--doesn't seem prepared to back any plan nearly bold enough to actually solve the problem. To wit: While I'm glad she's sponsored a $275 million dollar R & D amendment to the energy bill
When I encounter bigotry, I feel obliged to speak out. I feel this way not just in the case of anti-atheist bigotry but also in cases of racism, gay bashing, sexism, and the like. I suppose it is the realization that by remaining silent, I am implicitly condoning the behavior that motivates me to speak out. Still, I'm not always sure how best to respond in these situations. This recently started me thinking about the way the secular community should respond to bigotry directed at us.When confronted with anti-atheist bigotry, what is the atheist to do? Since I have rejected silence as an option, this leaves me with the need to respond, but what sort of response is optimal?I realize that what I am about to say is a gross oversimplification and that the choice of how to respond will depend greatly on the specifics of the situation, but I believe this may provide a tentative starting point. It seems to me that responses can be primarily offensive or defensive in nature. An offensive respo
I see that the Information Commissioner would like breaches of the magnitude seen this week made a criminal offense.
But if it were so right now, who would be the person being arrested by the police? Would it be the “junior official” who appears to have made an error in using a courier firm rather than the Royal Mail. Yet, at the time he would have been told NOT to use the Royal Mail as they were planning to go on strike that week.
In such instances, the instructions are to use courier services instead and that’s just what he did.
Many people have said that such a junior official should never have been responsible for so many records yet that’s the reality of day to day operations in large government departments. Quite junior people need to be able to work with all the records in that way. Surely no-one is expecting the head of HMRC to run the programs that process the various benefits himself?

Pressure Situations help make teams: Defining Moments and Down to the Wire games is what makes professional sports so fun to watch, especially if your teams is the one that wins, but not so good if your on the other end of the spectrum, watching your team being vicitimized in the process of a great finish. So I must be enjoying Week 7 as my Bears came out on top with a victory.
Still in it to Win it: Chicago looked like they were done for the count many times, but like a boxer they bounced right back up and stayed in there long enough, getting the final decision to go their way, a vital, pivotal win for a reeling, aching club. INTRO TO SABERMETRICS: OFFENSE While the stats that most of us grew up with can do a good job at helping us to compare the relative value of players, many of them are quite flawed and team dependent. The RBI is one such example. Teammates have to get on base to drive them in and over the course of 162 games, there is going to be a big difference in runners on base between many players. Some of that depends on the spot in the order they hit, but most of that depends on the offense surrounding individual players. For example, A-Rod led the majors in RBIs with 156. He also led the majors with runners on base when he came to the plate with 530. Aramis Ramirez led the Cubs in RBIs with just 101, but he only had 395 runners on base. Had Ramirez had 530 runners on base when he came to the plate, he would have driven in 126 runs. Ramirez had an OBI% (Others Batted In Percentage)
Seriously, I’m tired of reading posts by know-it-alls who claim that people don’t have the right to feel insulted, hurt and slighted. There’s a reason why the concept of feelings came into existence. It’s all relative and it varies from person to person. One person has no right to tell another that what he or she is genuinely feeling is WRONG. Each individual has a distinct set of values and standards that one uses to assess the value of each experience that he or she undergoes.

Gross. Maybe someday you can have a 'healthy' sexual experiance. You go with you 2 or 3 times with Dillon that happened because of a lie to THIS. Talk about a step down. Now that the elephant in the room has been dealt with lets go back to our regularly scheduled program. We see our great Spinelli first after Maxie sent Lulu to Spinelli after talking about a new game he created about her. Logan is great and wonderful. blah blah blah.. wasn't it just Friday that Lulu seemed reasonable again? what happened? She wasn't even very nice to him. What was the point in coming over right after b
In life we often need to criticize the actions of others, yet at the same time it can be a daunting task. Nobody likes being told their are wrong or need correcting. Yet, just because people may not like being criticized, doesn’t mean we can avoid doing it. If we allow people to continue doing the wrong thing, we will just resent their action and inwardly hold it against them. This is not a good situation; however, it is quite possible to criticize others, without making them our permanent enemy. These are some tactful ways to criticize others.

By Brian Carson (This the first of a two-part series focusing on the top six offensive and defensive rookies who will have the biggest impact in the NFL this season. Here we look at offense)Which rookies will have the biggest impact on the field in 2007? The Football Fanatic gives you the answers right here. This is our prediction for the top six (everybody does top five so I wanted to be different) offensive rookies who will have the greatest impact this upcoming season.1. Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Ohio State: Gonzalez will be a perfect fit in the Colts offense, taking over for the departed Brandon Stokely in the slot. He's quick (4.44) and has decent hands. Ted Ginn Jr. got more headlines at Ohio State, but Gonzalez was and is the better receiver. With Peyton Manning as your quarterback and Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne and Joseph Addai around, look for Gonzalez to have a big rookie season in 2007.2. Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota Vikings: Peterson is the real deal provided he can stay
Welcome to a new feature here at This Just In Fantasy Sports, the Naysayers Nation. The Nation is the place where we take a nugget of popular opinion...and tear it to shreds. You see, some things, even though they are believed and promoted and spread by the masses, are simply untrue. So welcome all you doubters and haters to the Naysayers Nation...In our first installment, we take a look at the Detroit Lions offense, a squad many are touting as the second coming of the "Greatest Show on Turf." With puppetmaster and offensive mastermind Mike Martz pulling the strings, many experts say that the Lions' O will put up huge numbers like Martz's St. Louis teams did in the recent past. These folks are also touting Jon Kitna, Roy Williams, and rookie sensation Calvin Johnson as fantasy must-haves for 2007.We here at TJI have a slightly different take on the matter. We urge anyone caught up in the Lions offensive hysteria to crank it down a notch or two...or ten. An in-depth examination of the
The New York Jets quarterback is feeling good this summer, completely healthy a year after entering camp in a four-man competition because of the uncertainty surrounding his arm. “I’m excited when I step off the field — to be able to step into the film room and watch my film to get better mentally and not have to immediately go to the training room to get treatment on my shoulder,” he said. Don’t depend on Pennington to lead your fantasy team to a championship. He
missed 23 starts from 2003-2005 due to injury. Although healthy last year, the
Jets were in the bottom half of the league in passing yards, passing TDs and
pass attempts.
Average draft position as of July 30th:
Overall: G.Olsen (139), Chad Pennington (140), Broncos Def (141),
Position: M Schaub (QB20), Chad Pennington (QB21), J.P.Losman (QB22)

The Falcons will have to re-tool the offense to fit Harrington’s more classic dropback style. There will be fewer roll outs and bootlegs from Harrington and likely more classic 3-, 5- and 7-step dropback passes. “It will be different; there is no question about that,” Petrino said. By Dave CisarHigh Schools that Want You to Run “Their System” at the Youth Level.A small number of Youth Football coaches get pressure from the local High School to run the High Schools offense. The High School coach in these situations often think that by teaching 8 year old kids to run his system, by the time the players are 18 years old, they should be very proficient at running said system.I am 100% opposed to the High School coach imposing his will on the Youth Program. For many reasons I am 100% opposed to the High Schools imposing this will upon the youth coach and kids. My first reason has to do with basic control and effort. The often handsomely paid for his time, High School coach is telling a non-paid volunteer of a program not run or paid for by the High School, to run his High School system. Part of the “benefit” of spending money out of your own pocket to coach youth football, is you get to choose what you are going to run and how you are going to run it. If I fail
While the Cleveland Indians pitching has still been their strong suite in 2007, the offense has suddenly found itself in a total position of slumping. That point was proven on Tuesday night, as the Florida Marlins shut out Cleveland for the second time in three days, beating the Tribe 3-0 in Florida. Cleveland lost another shutout loss, this time to the Reds 1-0 in 12 innings. In both meetings, the Indians starter kept them in the game, but the offense was asleep at the wheel. C.C. Sabathia was the victim of the offensive sleepwalk on Sunday, and Tuesday it was Fausto Carmona, who lost for the first time in 11 games. The Indians have dropped seven of their last 10, and with it have now put themselves in a tie with the Tigers for first in the AL Central. "If you look at the last 10 games, we've been in an offensive funk," Tribe manager Eric Wedge said after the loss on Tuesday. "We need to nip this in the bud and get back on track." That track appeared to be back on Monday, as th
Britain-A pilot scheme, to be officially announced next week, will allow parents to establish if their child is in danger from a registered sex offender. This announcement came eight days later after comments made by a so-called child protection agency administrator:Jim Gamble, of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (Ceop), said he believed some sex offenders, such as those found with child pornography, should not necessarily be sent to jail.Yeah, they can seek treatment or work as a volunteer for a democrat presidential candidate.
"Those who excel at defense bury themselves away below the lowest depths of the Earth. Those who excel at offense move from above the greatest heights of Heaven. Thus they are able to preserve themselves and attain victory."This is one of my favorite Sun-Tzu quotes and has surprisingly profound applications. But since we are Fantasy Generals, we must look at how this applies to fantasy baseball. The import of the quote is clear; the road to success lies in knowing yourself and then taking advantage of your strengths in the best possible way. One who excels at defense will bury themselves below the earth; from what better position can such a person defend themselves?? You avoid defeat and disaster by taking advantage of your peculiar skills. One who excels at offense moves from the heights of Heaven; how better to take advantage of your offensive skills. The army that moves like this will be like a ton against an ounce. How to take advantage? Well, as a Fantasy General you must of course
Seldom have I ever read news as disgusting as this:A four-foot swastika formed by 17 neatly arranged volumes of the Encyclopedia Britannica was found in the parking lot of Bnai Keshet, the Reconstructionist synagogue in Montclair. [...]Fred Glicksman, the synagogue's administrator, surmised that the incident occurred after 11 o'clock Sunday night, when zoning laws require that the synagogue turn off the lights that illuminate the parking lot. That could explain how the diablos were able to go about doing the filthy deed without being noticed at ease. I think something's going to have to be done about these stupid "zoning laws", which may hinder the ability to spot criminals at work at ease. This incident is truly disgusting.
