Appellate Justice Linda Yanez (D-Edinburg), who is running for Place 8 on the Texas Supreme Court, was recently highlighted in an excellent piece in the Texas Observer.

Indonesia could have reaped great profits from the current high world crude oil prices and would not have plunged into its present difficult situation if it had managed its oil potentials well, oil industry observer Dr Kurtubi said.He said Indonesia`s failure to manage its oil wealth properly in the past few years had caused its crude oil production to decline and led to its dependence on oil imports which had now placed the country in a difficult position.Dr Kurtubi made the remarks in an interactive discussion on fuel oil prices which was organized by the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) here Saturday. Kurubi said that as a result of the improper management of the country`s oil potentials, the government was now facing difficulties in maintaining the state budget amid the sky-ro

An average increase of 28.7 percent in fuel oil prices is too high and could cause panic among the people, economic observer Tony A Prasetyantono said here on Wednesday. He said he agreed with the government`s intention to increase fuel oil prices based on its need to reduce its fuel oil subsidy but before doing it the government should also take into account the people`s objective and psychological conditions. "I think, psychologically, a logical increase should not exceed Rp1,000 per liter because it would be objectively acceptable to the people," he said. The finance ministry has undertaken a study on increasing subsidized fuel oil prices by an average of 28.7 percent in June 2008. The plan was made in response to the upward trend in the crude oil price in the world market which

Have you ever heard of the saying, "If you change how you look at something, what your looking at will change." That is a very real fact. It also applies to how you look at yourself, and your life. The part of you that consciously thinks is the observer, and the observer has ABSOLUTE control because the observer has a choice in what is viewed and how it is viewed.
Objects that subclass the Observable class maintain a list of observers. When an Observable object is updated it invokes the update() method of each of its observers to notify the observers that it has changed state. The Observer interface is implemented by objects that observe Observable objects.

This morning the Grobserver has another "top bloggers" list. This one is as self-absorbed as all the others, being a (drum roll, hold breath, straighten shoulders, salute the Grobserver) list of (taran-tara):
The world's 50 most powerful blogs
I hate this sort of list in the national media.
Today the fifty most powerful blogs are listed in The Observer.Topping the list is the Huffington Post, written by Arianna Huffington, followed by BoingBoing and technical blog TechCrunch.I wonder if this blog will one day grace a future list.Newsjiffy currently gets between 80 and 170 hits a day, so around 800 hits per week. Chez Pim, a blog on food by Pim Techamuanvivit, gets 10,000 hits each week.It seems I have a long way to go.The Observer Magazine also has an interview with Nick Denton of Gawker, a gossip blog. You can suggest alternatives at Bobbie Johnson's article. One comment says:As for the list of blogs, it reads like something someone who doesn't read blogs would draw up, which is probably quite useful for readers of a print newspaper. This seems unfair-why should people only rea
Lockheed Martin Federal Credit Union recently completed Virtual Observer training at their corporate location. Here is a quote from Kara Fitzgerald, Director of Call Centers:"I have had many experiences with call monitoring in the past. This came in this week from Stephen McDevitt, Call Center Manager for Cigars International:"As the Call Center Manager for a growing catalog and internet company, sales call quality and customer service call quality are paramount. In our industry what separates one company from another is the level of service. After a lengthy due diligence we chose Coordinated Systems Inc’s Virtual Observer as the application to assist us in our quest to be number one. Virtual Observer has provided us with exactly what we need to guide our representatives to success. I have used several applications in my career and this system is as straightforward as you can
As a marketing director, it is extremely beneficial to have the kind of customer retention which we have at CSI. One particular market where Virtual Observer (VO) performs extremely well is the credit union market. Credit Unions benefit from both call logging (for legal/liability/compliance) and from the powerful quality monitoring and employee development toolset which comes included with VO.In a conversation with a quality and training manager from Eastern Florida Financial Credit Union, he spoke of the many ways which VO has helped improve call center agent performance:- "It has helped our call center by giving our coaches and supervisors the ability to provide our phone agents with concrete examples of where their opportunities may be."- "VO has improved the use of our company’s reso

...On a sweltering night this past summer, at a crammed two-story house party deep in the outskirts of Williamsburg, Cole Gerard dropped his remix of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire” on a pair of turntables. You could hear the pounding “slow mo disco” beat (as Mr. Gerard describes it) from the rooftop, where revelers escaped for a smoke and a view of the industrial skyline. In the kitchen, Springsteen’s original plinking guitar line was the lullaby for partiers passed out on the tile floor. Spank Rock, the underground Philly party rapper, was getting a lap dance in a dark corner. The living room was packed, the air thick with sweat and cigarette smoke and hormone-induced heavy breaths from dancers making out, shouting out requests and falling off tables and sofa cushions. It
Did you know...Virtual Observer (VO) can be used to record screens in a dual-screen environment. Dual-Screen can be very effective, doubling the desktop landscape, for example, enabling supervisors to playback screens on one monitor and open evaluations on another.Did you know....Many customer implementations have seen VO replace many of the "big name" recording solutions. Customers have detailed to us how VO has performed better than the the system we replaced. Often customers are able to spend considerably less for equal or greater value, so the end result is rapid return on investment and an extremely low cost of ownership.Did you know...VO is able to record screens in a Citrix environment. While we have been selling a great deal of digital and VoIP systems in the last two years, often as an alternate method of recording, we are asked to record trunkside or T1.This especially comes into play when we are asked to record a system which we don't have a compatible audio recording board for, and random sample or extension side logging becomes a non-option.Virtual Observer can passively record audio from t1 or trunks . In this environment, SMDR or CTI integration is required for agent identification.T1 recording available for VO customers who wish to capture every call.VO Logger with QA is also packed with many of our quality assurance features, creating a powerful quality monitoring tool, which when combined with CTI, can deliver a robust business intelligence tool....even without direct phone system integration.T1 logging is limited in that you aren't able to capture full video screen capture of your agents' pcs. However, recently we've introduced "VO Live", a suite of in
Virtual Observer's user interface presents evaluators with a single unified screen that includes audio and screen capture playback as well as the evaluation form. Virtual Observer delivers a “dynamic” screen layout in that it can be modified to create a customized look and feel that is most comfortable to each system user. Users can easily saved their preferred layouts, and the next time they login, they will be presented with the newly saved layout.Screen layouts can be modified as follows:· Sizable Window · Docked or floating· Show or hide· Window blinds or window shades· Expand or contract· Save screen layout· Clear screen layoutVirtual Observer’s evaluation process allows users to listen to the recorded audio and watch the employee navigate through their screens while displaying the evaluation form one of three ways: 1) spreadsheet view.2) side-by-side view.3) single question view.
In a call logging environment, where every call is captured, online storage can be managed where calls can be automatically be purged based on a storage threshold or based on date. Selected calls, however, can be retained and removed from the purging process. Virtual Observer offers an Auto-Archiving module to completely automate the storage process. With Auto Archiving enabled, the system supports both “online” and “archived” storage where Virtual Observer will automatically write to removable media (DVD-RAM, SAN or NAS) at the time the event is recorded. This methodology allows customers to store as much as their storage location will hold, and an infinite amount of archived media.

A spectre is haunting the net but, outside of techie circles, nobody seems to be talking about it. The threat it represents to our security and wellbeing may be less dramatic than anything posed by global terrorism, but it has the potential to wreak much more havoc. And so far, nobody has come up with a good idea on how to counter it.
It’s called the Storm worm.
The article goes on to say pretty much what I have been saying since July of 06!!
Anyway, hope somebody is starting to get the whole scope of the situation that is only continuing to grow.

We recently completed an implementation for a Cisco VoIP service provider. The company handles approximately 70,000 calls a day. They can now provide call recording capabilities, evaluation capabilities, and possibly screen capture capabilities to their portfolio of Cisco VoIP customers. The two days of training went well, going over all of the included features and also discussing how VO can be presented to their customer base. They were very excited with Virtual Observer's scalability.Virtual Observer is a perfect recording option for hosted telecom service providers. The return on investment with VO is already best in the industry, but it becomes exponentially greater when you consider our value added features can be extended to your customer base.

Got featured in the University Observer today, really cool to see your writing in print for once!Problems with internet addiction are beginning to appear in many western countries, but nowhere are they more apparent than in Asia.Great changes are being brought into place on that continent to remedy the problems that that internet users are experiencing with dependency and addiction to the internet. A prime example of this extreme internet usage is the case of 24 year old Kim Kyung Jae.During the Chinese new year celebrations, Kyung Jae collapsed and died after having playing online games at the internet café in the South Western City of Kwangiu for an incredible 86 hours without a break.Another shocking example of the power of the internet and online gaming over human logic is presented in the case of a Korean couple who left their 4 month old baby at home alone for more than a day to go to the local internet café and play the online game “World of Warcraft”.The couple commented
Props to Ben Thompson @ The Observer for this one. I wonder how many old white folks read this article?... An upcoming Channel 4 documentary by video-maker Goetz Werner (to be screened on the weekend before Maths & English's release) will shed more light on Dizzee Rascal's fun side. It contains a brief but memorable encounter with Jonathan Ross, in which Britain's highest-paid broadcaster is encouraged to spit Dizzee's 'Showtime' verse, 'Inside, outside rah rah rah ...' ('He's a cheeky bastard,' says Dizzee, admiringly. 'I wanted to hear him saying "wah wah wah" because he has trouble with his r's'). This film also contains footage of Dizzee's debut as a speaker at the Oxford University Union. This was not his first visit to Oxford. An earlier appearance at a black-tie ball - playing 'Fix Up Look Sharp' to an audience in ball-gowns and dinner suits - went down so well, particularly with the ladies (and, indeed, the Ladies) in the house, that the memory still prompts
I ran across this letter to the editor yesterday:Hold senators to fire regarding Iraq voteOn March 27, the U.S. Senate voted 50 to 48 for a nonbinding resolution supporting a pullout of U.S. troops from Iraq by this time next year.Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, a Vietnam veteran and staunch conservative, was the only Republican to support the measure. In explaining his vote, he argued "Iraq belongs to the 25 million Iraqis who live there. It doesn't belong to the United States. Iraq is not a prize to be won or lost." Wise words. If George Bush's disastrous misadventure in Iraq continues through the November 2008 elections, the Republican senators who failed to follow Hagel's lead should be held accountable. Iraq doesn't belong to the U.S. It's time to bring our troops home.Maurice IssermanClintonFrom The Observer-DispatchIf you have written or seen a letter to the editor about Chuck Hagel I'd love to hear about it.
