The Champaign News-Gazette reports that one of the officers involved in the arrest of Chanda Gill is not at all pleased to learn that Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich (D) has pardoned Gill. DeAnn Winn-Maurer says she would have objected to the pardon in advance, had she had the opportunity. Winn-Maurer says she feared for her own safety during the 2002 fight between Gill and Latasha Cain and the disruption put an end to a 13-year career. The Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. says, however, that Gill's conviction was "insane" as it did not involve "raucous behavior or stealing."
