This pattern has never allowed for a positive reward experience for your dog while in the ring. The new sport of Rally Obedience now allows for the handler to speak to the dog, clap, whistle, or otherwise encourage the dog as long as the handler does not physically touch the dog or give him treats. Just this fact alone has helped to reduce the tension that often precedes a performance and the exhibitor feels more relaxed. Furthermore the courses may be set up differently at each show, thus training for the event is not as boring for the dog.The basic exercises must still be performed by the dog but the rules are less stringent. The course consists of over a dozen options of exercises

Hand Signals On Dog Obedience Training
People are hooked on taking care of pets these days as they can be considered as one of the most valued possessions of a person. In choosing a pet, we have a variety of choices but dogs are more preferred. One reason for this is the ability of dogs to understand and follow commands from their owners. If given proper training, a dog can understand both verbal and sign commands. However, they tend to learn hand signals easier than words because dogs are very observant of body language.Since we don’t have an official hand signals on dog obedience training we practice commonly used basic commands and these are the heel, sit, stay, down and come. Through hand signals, you can teach your dog to sit by starting with your arm at your side. You can then move your hands toward your chest, facing y

Teaching basic obedience skills to a dog can be exciting as well as challenging. Having problems on where to begin? The first lesson in obedience is to get your dog to pay attention to the commands. You want to start by calling his name and then using a keyword like "watch" or "look" afterwards. This way, he will associate the words to a command. Once you've got his attention, the lessons can begin. You want your dog to be able to pay attention for a short length of time. Try keeping his attention by doing attention exercises. One example would be to hold a toy or dog treat in near your mouth and then give him the keyword command. Dog Training: Do-it-yourself or Obedience School?
Many pet owners choose to train their puppies themselves, while there are some who prefer to send them off to dog obedience schools. Of course, when training pet dogs, you have to know even just the basic of techniques in order for them to grasp what you want them to learn. In most cases, however, dogs seem to recognize words said by their master and associate this with a particular task that they need to perform. Or perhaps, the master make gestures like performing a sitting position himself, which the dog somehow picks up and imitates. Experience and personal technique is what makes training a dog a success. Desired results can be had depending on the persistence and positive attitude of the master to train, not to mention his relationship with his dog. Obedience schools are a great alternative to training your puppies. While one reason for enrolling a dog to such school is to pick up a useful "trick' or two, another great reason is for them to be given a chance to socialize and

      Great Lessons On Obedience
Do we obey God because we think that most times it will be just for our own good? You know, back when I was a young Christian more than two decades ago, I used to hold this notion that if I were to pray for something to come true, and if I were to be obedient to God for that period right after, God will answer my prayers. Yes, it’s extremely naive, but the good news is that God has taught me that, well, it just isn’t so; that being obedient to Him isn’t usually for our own benefit in the sense that He will answer our prayers, but that His glory and goodness might be manifested through us. I read the following story that ChannelofHealing had on her blog the other day (which I’ll replicate below), and was pleasantly reminded of this fact. Though the story was more about how a man came to believe that God answers prayers, I saw it as a lesson in obedience. (more…)

The great thing about these events is that they are usually not limited to only registered or purebred dogs, but rather anyone can enter. Most classes or groups within the competition are either broken down by breed or breed crosses as well as size. This helps keep the competition fair and equal for all types of dogs entering the events. Children can even enter their pets and often special classes for junior handlers are offered. How to Begin Obedience Training for Your Dog
Simple commands such as "Come," "Sit," and "Lie down" should be taught at three to four months of age. Your puppy will learn very quickly to come when he is called if every time he answers the call, he receives a pleasant reward such as a piece of meat, dog candy, or a word of praise. He will quickly learn the command "Sit" if his head is held high and a little pressure is applied to his hindquarters. He will learn the meaning of "Lie Down" if you press on his shoulders and pull down on his collar. When you do these things, keep telling the puppy that he is a "Good Boy."The young puppy should learn not to pull on the leash. Use an ordinary leather collar for this training and tug gently on the leash until the puppy learns not to pull ahead. When you train your dog obedience at six months, you need a chain slip collar for the big strong dog. Dog Obedience Training Opens Communication With Owner
By: Roland Parris Jefferson III When a dog misbehaves it is not because they are bad, it is usually because they are dogs and they are simply acting like the animals they are. They will eat the furniture and everything else that strikes their fancy, jump up on things and people and even bite the hands that feed them. While dog obedience training may not solve every issue of behavior you have with your dog, it is a way of helping the dog understand what your expectations are.In most cases, the dog will want to please its owner, once it understands just which of you is the boss, and once established will mostly do as directed. However, before the new dog will give itself over to dog obedience training, the social pecking order has to be understood. This by no means hints that harsh steps are needed to make the dog submissive to the owner. Simple commands such as sit, kiss or stay can be taught with an even, stern, not necessarily loud voice, can make the animal understand who is in charg

Say, like 10AM? That would be so much better for me. That way I could sleep in. Well, attempt to sleep in, anyway. Ms Tatum wants to get up every day at 6am. We have been working on this since we get up when I say, not when she says. Anyway, I’m just cranky with PMS and I don’t feel well, so I want to sleep a lot, and I haven’t been able to. I love sleep it’s how I cope. The Obedience Seminar should be fun. Saturday I am auditing, and Sunday I am bringing Chase. We should get some good training ideas!

      Obedience and Sin, part 2
There obviously are several reasons to keep our hearts from sin... but I think a simple, yet most important reason is found in Ephesians 4:30..."And do not bring sorrow to God's Holy Spirit by the way you live."Hello.Do you see that? When we sin, when we go against His will, we break His heart. I don't know about you, but I don't want to break God's heart. It's a bummer where our nation has headed morally. But really, have we as a church had a part in turning their hearts away... because we've focused on the outward side of sin... and not the real issue, the heart? Because we've preached hell more than we've preached the heart of God?Don't get me wrong. I believe 100% that hell is real is part of the eternal destination of those who do not surrender their lives to Jesus. But how much more should we focus on the heart of God!?God desires our simple obedience. Not that He wants us to live boring, structured lives. He longs for us to obey simply because He knows what's best for o

      Obedience and Sin
For a moment think about "SIN". In my mind we've painted a very distorted picture of what "sin" really is. When we see or hear the word "sin" we immediately think of such things as murder, lying, lust, drugs, etc. But really, sin is much more than that. And really, "sin" has nothing to do with the action because it all begins in the heart.Sin is simply disobedience to God's Word and His Will for our lives. If you remember, Jesus didn't leave the "sin line" at the ACT of adultery... he said that it begins in the heart with lust. Same with murder... it begins in the heart with ANGER. And so on... (See Matthew 5)So if we've gotten to the point where we think we're not sinning... because the "big sins" aren't a part of our lives... then we've fallen off our rocker. Sin begins in the heart.Obviously, all throughout the New Testament there are specific types of sins listed. For instance, there's Galatians 5:19-21... Ephesians 5:5... Colossians 3:5-6... But look at the beginning of the

      Unconditional Obedience
I've been reading Forever Ruined for the Ordinary by Joy Dawson. It challenges the norm of just doing things one our own... it's a challenge to actually listen to God's voice and follow His will in every aspect of our lives. I thought I'd share an excerpt with you from the book:"Unconditional obedience to God should be our love response to Him for His unconditional love to us. This removes all the dutiful dullness from our responses to His directions. Every influence God brings into our lives to encourage us to obey Him is so that we will do so because of who He is." (pg. 133)And here are a few things that Joy Dawson lists that God is: - Supreme in His authority - Dazzling in His beauty - Flawless in His character - Ingenious in His creativity - Timeless in His existence - The most exciting Person - Unswerving in His faithfulness - Matchless in His graceThat's just a small glimpse of who God IS.So many times we think we're simply obeying Him because we're not sinning... but that

AARON HOPSON'S OBEDIENCE IS BLESSING THOUSANDS by Elaine Davenport (Monday, September 10, 2007)
If you love me, you will obey what I command. John 14:15 - Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. John 14:21 On Sunday, I went by to take dinner to my uncle who has been facing a health challenge and he handed me a newspaper article. "I saved this for you." He said with a smile. I read the article with great interest and I was so happy. It seems our local paper, The Detroit Free Press, had written an article on a young man by the name of Aaron Hopson, A MAN WHO LOVES GOD is a thirty something year old attorney. I've got to shorten the story but here is a good synopsis:Aaron Hopson was praying at his kitchen table and God told him to introduce a prayer in a way that would be inspiring and encouraging. So he went to work. With heavenly backing, he created the recording of "The Battle Ready Prayer CD." The prayer is underscored by Joe McNair. It seems that the prayer is a hit in Christian circles. It seems the focus is to seek the Lord's Bl

Tuesday Tips for Parenting - First Time Obedience
As Kathy and I continue to try our hand at Parenting Tips, this week’s turn has fallen to me. Those of you who read my earlier pointer may see some overlap with today’s offering — indeed, the game we play to teach our children to come when we call is an outgrowth of this parenting principle. A significant aspect of raising young children involves telling them to do things, or (perhaps even more often) telling them not to do things, as in one of our oft-used obscure movie quotes: “Stop doing things!” (Hint: Steve Martin has a starring role in this 1990 film.) Sometimes I can really identify with the frustration of the FBI agent in that story, thrust into a pseudo-parental role, responsible for a decidedly over-active ‘child’. In spite of the informational trickle-down among the children which a large family enjoys, sometimes it seems as though all I do is give instructions, and a lot of them seem to be the same kind of instructions I gav

So I asked my husband what he thought about my writing a newsletter for the subdivision. His reply was quite accurate. He said that would be out of order because there was no Board of Directors. He was right. Besides he said, we were moving. He said it was senseless for me to write a newsletter and we were leaving. I agreed. My mother began to make several weekly trips to the emergency room; often going in the middle of the night requiring my presence. My children were being attacked at school; mostly by bullies; mostly verbally. The work load was incredible. Often, I would stay up all night to read and by morning, I would remember nothing at all. In return, this will train your dog to understand the exact response manner that you await instead of his maladaptive traits.Your dog can react exactly to your commands if he learned the basic dog obedience training, in place of neurotically attempting to incline him and becoming more fearful with your dissatisfaction.
