      "Nowhere Man" Creator Herzog Dies
If it wasn’t for the obituary in my latest issue of Variety, I wouldn’t even have known one of the entertainment industry’s best talents had passed away. And the truth of the matter is, sadly, most of you have never heard of Lawrence Hertzog. But Lawrence was the mind behind one of TV’s best series (which most of you probably haven’t seen), Nowhere Man – a mix of action, science-fiction and paranoia that ranked right up there with The Prisoner and The Fugitive in terms of “watchablity”.Herzog was also a writer for such shows as 24, Profiler, La Femme Nikita, and Hart To Hart, among others.Lawrence died of cancer on April 19th. He may not have been well known among TV fans, but his talents will certainly be missed.

When you’re in the middle of nowhere in the ocean and no help is around…
Do not take off your clothes! Seriously, if you think that your clothes pull your body down as a weight, think again. You may not be able to swim, but at least those clothes could help keeping your body warm for a certain time. And do you know that, statistically speaking, the chances of a non-swimmer to drown (in case of a ship accident) are much less than the chances of a swimmer? It is logical enough, considering that non-swimmers are more likely to take the lifebuoy than swimmers. Most swimmers think that being able to swim fast in the Olympic pool is everything, hence their snobbish attitude in refusing the lifebuoys. But they surely don’t know that, in the middle of the ocean, it could be at least 100 kilometres away from the nearest land. And no man could ever swim such a dis

Cocktail Shakers - they don't come from nowhere
One of my continuing interests is the origins of things we take for granted. For instance, staples and paper clips. Not only has someone manufactured both of these items ... pretty obvious that they don't just appear in the stores ... but long before that someone has thought about them, designed them, designed the equipment to make them and most likely patented them too.Being the sad sole that I am did some digging about on the internet about a couple of years ago and found a lot of information relating to paper clips. I guess we mostly think of a thing the shape of the annoying 'helper' on Word when the word 'paperclip' is used, but there have been a lot of other designs over the years (I remember my mother having some odd shaped paperclips that were used in the CID office in St. Helen

The fact that they had the 7th overall pick made quite a few people forget that the Patriots were pretty heavily disciplined. The full moon was menacing, laughing at her pain in all its glory. How cruel could nature get?, she thought. One could not blame her state of mind. The earthquake had taken away all her family and friends.

Magazine ranks cities with Portland nowhere in sight
Forbes Magazine has pumped out two new lists and Portland didn’t make either- although that’s a good thing for one of the lists.First, the magazine created the Top 10 Best Cities for Home Sellers. Portland didn’t make the cut. According to Forbes, “Four factors are widely seen as affecting whether a housing market is a good one for sellers: job growth, amount of new construction, vacancy rates, and credit availability.” Here are the top ten markets for home sellers:1. San Jose, Calif. Because of a tough regulatory environment, new home construction dropped 63 percent last year.2. San Francisco. When the conforming loan limit recently jumped from $417,000 to the maximum $729,750, that made credit much easier to get for many of the city's home buyers. 3. Salt Lake City. The 3 per

My movie won, and is now featured on IM's blog, hosted by Wes Scoggins, who said some nice things on this forum page.Be sure to read the comments as well. It's always interesting to see what people think, and even more so when the subject matter leaves a lot to interpretation. The intentional vague and open-endedness of this piece gets people debating, and I like that. It's also good for hiding plot holes and continuity issues which could be explained away by what is (or isn't?) apparently happening her

      Middle of nowhere
Straits Times Index did not rally back to the resistive trendline that connected the previous 3 peaks or rather, it has not return back to test the resistive trendline yet. Gaps can act as technical levels of support and resistance. For the STI, it can be seen from the chart that the gap up is acting as a resistance and the gap down is acting as a support level and STI seems to be sandwiched between both gaps. Furthermore, the gap down is at the psychological level of 3000 points where a lot of speculators are sentimental towards this level. The trend can only be judged depending on whether STI breaks it's support or resistance level. However, i am still bearish since the rally a few days ago was a false one since it was done with declining volume.Straits Times Index:

Day in day out, we tend to take to the roads that assure us to take somewhere. It is a life lived very often in plenty of familiar monotony and apparent inescapable boredom, but free of risk and adventure. Same faces, same contours and same smells-we prefer to like or rather we force ourselves to succumb. It is like being remaining glued to a makeshift web of the spider spun by none other but us. It is so suffocating that we rot over the decaying but freshly painted hanging bridges, knowing well that the next day perhaps they may turn out to be our most cherished unmaking of ourselves nurtured secretly as calculated dangers. That is why, I often thought of venturing out to walk briskly on the roads going to nowhere with disjointed tall bridges-just to be myself and none else; though I never

This is because on Halloween I can dress exactly how I want and no one thinks it's all that bizarre. Yeah, I'm 29 years old and running mundane errands in my costume, but it's Halloween so it's okay. Trust me, I know from experience that if you go to WalMart (which I did today) on any other day of the year dressed like this, they treat you quite strangely. They may even have security follow you around. But, since it was Halloween, I simply got compliments on my costume. Nowhere but in MosselpromA. Rodchenko, V. Mayakovsky, 1925 This is one of the most significant Soviet advertising posters ever. This is a result of a collaboration between Vladimir Maykovsky – who was the most noted poet of the twenties, and Alexander Rodchenko – one of the founders of Constructivism movement. Together they created many works for Mosselprom, including not only graphics and slogans, but also advertising concepts along with promotion techniques unique for the time. Mosselprom was a huge trust, which united flour-grinding, confectionary, chocolate, beer and tobacco factories. It was situated in a big house (pictured on the poster), which was one of the highest buildings in Moscow. The eleven-storey building was constructed before the revolution, but a part of it collapsed in 1913 due to flaws in building technology. The Bolsheviks restored it completely and gave it to Mosselprom. The administration of the trust occupied the upper floors, and the warehous

Little do you know that one town in the United States was under monarch rule until the 1950's. That place is of course Nowhere, Idaho. Albert was the last ruling king before the US Constitution was finally ratified in 1952. He was only five years old at the time, but his legacy remains as the last of the Mohegans in a sense. Today, King Albert wanders the streets, mostly around the town square and Veterans Park. An unusual thing about our park is that instead of veterans, there are usually homeless people trying to dry-hump and grop each other. This is the first of three videos of his Lordship. In it Alfred talks about his kingdom, his subjects and growing up as a Prince. Because of his viewpoints, he is often consulted by the local government leaders. When they can find him of course. I am definitely not stepping away!"It's amazing how this story came up and then got legs, but there's no way."Reid took a day during his bye week to step out to Atlantic City for a much-needed respite in order to recharge his batteries.

Nowhere Idaho Adopts Official Town Song
Years of debate and argument that have divided this sleepy bedroom community ended this week with the unveiling of the official town song. It began two years ago with the suggestion by Psycho Bill one night at the Drunken Sailor Pub. After a narrow victory in the council meeting that next week, a resolution was passed to create and implement a town song contest. As with all government resolutions, they fade away. A year later the local vinyl record shop Dad’s Records picked up where the politicians started and ran their own contest. Hundreds of songs were voted on and after hours of wrangling, three finalists were announced: ‘Cotton Eyed Joe’ by Rednex ‘Party All the Time’ by Eddie Murphy ‘Crazy Horses’ by The Osmonds Getting it down to one song was difficult. There was heavy lobbying for Eddie Murphy’s tune, especially from the Bavarian midget wrestler neighborhood. But they are big fans of Rick James. These people have a love for Rick that rivals the Fre

      Middle of nowhere
Today i redrew the charts for the Dow Jones and the Straits Times Index cos things were starting to get messy. On a personal note, i dun reli like to add in the fibbonacci retracement level cos there are so many horizontal lines so i gotten rid of those on the Dow Jones chart. It still remain intact for the STI chart. For the latest closing, Dow Jones formed a harami candlestick due to a black candlestick on the 2nd previous closing and a white candlestick on the previous closing whose open and close are within the black candlestick. The harami candlestick formation is slightly bullish so i am expecting the Dow Jones to trend sideways or go down until further technical indicators suggest otherwise. Notice also how the white candlestick has a heavier volume. Dow Jones will be hitting the resistive trendline soon so a break of this trendline will be good news since this trendline has been resisted 3 times. On a side note, i kinda toy with the idea of the point of death on the chart. It's

      A Ferry Ride to Nowhere
Well, that’s not technically true. Okay, it’s not true at all, but I’m tired and slightly punchy so we’ll stick to pictures and leave the dialogue for another day. Let’s just walk on the ferry. There are enough children to carry all the gear, who needs a car. The ferry ride was, as always, a great treat. Who can resist the cool breezes mingled with the smell of car exhaust. Mmmmm. The girls find a table and hunker down. We had one lone fisherman with us on the day’s journey. He was determined to catch some fish. Alas we spent most of our time at the beach with barely a fish in sight. His mama, however, caught a good piece of grass. She’s very talented. Eli was poised and ready to bring home dinner but the biggest fish we saw was from the edge of the ferry. Sadly, those persnickety ferry workers wouldn’t let him cast off. Once we were on the island, the brave and stalwart walked to the lake (a mile or so) while the caffeine dep

He imagined he could see the very faces of the stars; pale, they were, and smiling gently, as if they had spent so much time above the world, watching the scrambling and the joy and the pain of the people below them, that they could not help being amused every time another little human knew itself the centre of its world, as each of us does. The Bridge to Nowhere is Finally Leading Somewhere
Senator Ted Stevens and Representative Don Young, both of Alaska, are finally coming under more scrutiny regarding spending, according to the Anchorage Daily News. “When you are chairman of a committee, you represent the whole nation; you don’t represent one district, which is in my case is one state,” Young said. “Earmarks are good for the country and good for the people you represent. That is the role of a congressman. If you can’t get money for your district, you shouldn’t be in Congress.” Are the states supposed to be in some kind of competition, putting forth the representative able to get the most federal money for them? Also, Stevens says that this might change his “life in terms of employment potential.” Just say “re-election” already.

The sweet pleasures of driving with my fingers was discovered last night. weee! We did not get going until after 3pm due to the movers taking a little longer than we had first hoped. This made our first day of travelling a long one. At one point J looks over at me and asks “Is that your nervous, I am going to drive us all off the road laugh?” Muwahahaha! Clearly he did not appreciate the self propelled glory of cruise control through mountainous terrain. Becca got confused at some point. She figured we would arrive in Los Alamos in no time at all. No stopping for dinner or the night. If we were stopping it meant we had arrived. No matter how many pictorial representations of Riverside to Los Alamos I drew on Colour Wonder paper, she was devastated that we were not “There Yet”. Pooh to the rescue! "The bottom of the housing market appears nowhere in sight"
Home builders' confidence falls to 16-year low by MarketWatch - 6/18/07 Full Article:Contractors say market probably won't improve until next yearThe outlook for U.S. home building is the worst in 16 years, the National Association of Home Builders reported Monday. The builders' housing market index fell by two points to 28 in June, the lowest since February 1991.The market probably won't turn around until next year, said David Seiders, chief economist for the builders. "We expect housing to exert a drag on economic growth during the balance of 2007."The decline was in line with expectations of economists surveyed by MarketWatch. See Economic Calendar. At 28, the index shows that fewer than one-third of builders think the housing market is good or fair. Builders are concerned about high levels of unsold homes, rising mortgage rates and the continuing "crisis" in the subprime mortgage segment, the industry trade group said. There is always somewhere to go, someone to see, someone for my kids to have playtime with, just always something. It's been great. I have been pretty content with myself these days as well. Though it seems like my depression wants to come back. It's tried slipping in a few times, yet I fight like a bat outta hell, to get out of it as fast as it peeks it evil head in. I am so scared to go back to the place where I was before, just a few short months ago, I had one of the most frightening "breakdown" I have ever experienced. I remember waking up one day, after being down in the dumps for what seemed like a month or more, I didn't keep track. Anyhoo, I woke up one morning, and just couldn't contain myself for nothing. As has been well documented for months, Green is a lame duck QB that has been set to be traded to the Miami Dolphins. Only problem is the Chiefs and Dolphins cannot agree on a deal, and so for now, Green continues to throw balls for a team that he knows he won’t play for again. “It’s not only awkward for me and my family, but it’s awkward for the guys in the weight room, in the locker room, on the practice field,” Green said. “I’m here every day. People ask, ‘What’s going on?’ Guys don’t know how to react to me, how to treat me.” The holdup in the deal with the Chiefs and Dolphins remains as to what round draft choice will be dealt. The Chiefs want a fourth-round choice for Green, while Miami is only offering a sixth-round selecti

      Going Nowhere
Let's face it, Bush is not going to accept the reality that this war has gone way out of hand and we should have left years ago, and the Democrats are not going to defund it without an exit strategy. They're only a few steps away from capitulating to the President and giving him his money because they have to. It's going to rile the left, annoy those who want out, and not change a damn thing in Iraq just yet. There's nothing Congress can do anymore except cut off all funds until they have slightly more than 1/3 of the Republican caucus on their side. If that doesn't happen by September...it won't happen. The President wins because nobody wants to cut money to the troops. The President wins until he leaves office, and is replaced by somebody who actually wants to formate an exit strategy. The war is won, we need to get out before it changes it's mind.

"The Subject Was Car-trips".I think every family unit has a group activity that is liked by some and disliked by others. I don't care who you are, or where you come from...IT HAPPENS.In my family, it was car rides on Sunday afternoons. In the '50's, the Chevrolet slogan was "See the USA in your Chevrolet". However, we had an American Motors Matador...so maybe the slogan for us could have been "Fall asleep and snore in your Matador". BLEAH.Let me lay it out for you, folks. It's Sunday after church. We've eaten and we're stuffed to da gills. One of the parental units would sneak the idea in over lunch.Sometimes it was obvious, like, "Why don't we go for a drive?" This would elicit groans from me and the sister unit...*whine* "We don't WANNA go for a ride today. Why do we have to go on a ride?" *whine again*Sometimes, blatant bribery was employed. Example? Sure...I was (and still am) a sucker for ice cream. If the ice cream was good enough, you could get me to rob banks an

      Riding to Nowhere
Graidy, Kiera and I are in the car riding to nowhere. As we breeze down the road, I think about how it was we got here. Anyone who’s had a rescue dog before knows to expect that there may be little quirks that show up here and there. Graidy is no exception. Graidy’s early life was a difficult one. He was found as a starving street stray in a New Jersey city. Even though all’s been well since he’s come to live with us for the past three years, there are still remnants of his past that will always affect him. One of the major issues is that he doesn’t want to leave our property. He doesn’t want to be taken for walks. He doesn’t want to go for rides in the car. He doesn’t even want to go in the front yard. When asked to do any of these things, he panics. Not just a little bit. A lot. We’re talking full-blown panic attacks. He just wants to stay home. He’s happy here. He feels safe here. Why would anybody in their right mind want

On the other hand we listened to some good music and had a conversation with a friend I didn't see for ages... The problem was that he was going one-way. And i still had another 80 kilometers home on my own feeling so tired I could fall asleep while standing :)And after all that I had dificulties finding a place to park my car.But my girlfriend was waiting for me and helped me forget all this crap. She was ready right then and there to plunge in and chat, and it was good timing for me, (to procrastinate) and I think we talked for an hour! What I talked to her about is based on one fundamental feeling I have, but I only connected that puzzle piece later on. What I told the editor is this: I think that trends in the future will not be as strong to pull one into their clutches as they have been in the past. It used to be that a trend would be so blindly followed, really blindly. I see the internet as being responsible for this sea change. The Blogosphere is huge, as we all know.
