Portuguese media announced that Novak will not defend his title in Estoril (Portugal) due to his exhaustion and need to rest. Novak Djokovic lost in Round 2 (his first match in the tournament) against Kevin Anderson in 3 sets, 7:6(1) 3:6 6:4. Usually this ment 'no problemo' for winning the set for Novak who is known as 'king of the tie-breaks' but this time Novak was himself. In tie-break Novak won only 1 point, even that 1 point was thanks to Kevin who made a double service fault when leading 1:0.Second set made the things look like coming to th

Novak won over Italian Andreas Seppi in two sets 6:3 7:6 (7:3) and once again proved he's a tie-break specialist. In the first set, Novak made a break in 4th game to make it 3:1 which was enough for securing the set by keeping serve games later on, 6:3. Novak used the same tactics in the second set, he waited for the chance that came in the fifth game to take a break game lead to 3:2. Novak didn't manage to keep the serve games and lost one in 10th game when Andreas made it 5:5, a lot of credits to for Andreas not giving up and fighting hard until the very end.Novak made a re-break for 6:5 lead but again lost his serve for 6:6 in game. Novak Djokovic arose in the group of young Serbian Tennis players who took over the World of Tennis by storm, along WTA's Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic. Their success and break through came as if almost a team work. As one of them would make personal record high ranking, other would follow and take the lead, and so on ever since they entered Top 100, all the way to where they are now, all in Top 5.While two young ladies already had a domestic role-model of the same gender to look up to, namely former Serbian World #1 WTA Player Monika Seles, Djokovic needed to write history of Serbian Tennis by himself and be the first one to make it to ATP's Top 5. So he did.Today, February 6th 2008, Novak is ranked World #3 ATP player, position he occupies for months now. After Novak's recent suberb p

Djokvic cruises through 6-1 6-0 before going on to win the final against Canas. While watching this match I found myself reaching the conclusion that this was the worst performance I had ever seen from Andy Murray. At the time, such thoughts seemed harsh, but Murray himself in his post-mtach interview said "It was the worst match that I’ve probably played since I’ve been on the tour".The closest comparison I could make was the Baghdatis match at Wimbledon. It was such a strange performance that, at times, you could be forgiven for thinking that this was an imposter on court. Usually, even when Murray is below par, he occasionally shows the flashes of genius that remind you that there is a great player inside, struggling to get out. That Friday night, there was nothing of note.At Indian Wells, even injured and exhausted, Murray managed a better scoreline in defeat.I don't say any of this to criticise, but merely to try and communicate how strange this match appeared. But the biggest
UPDATE: Just got back but only have a couple of mins. Murray vs Djokovic is due at 8pm (UK Time). You can watch it live on Sky Sports Extra. Finally got access to the internet so I can do a really quick update. Well, not really an update since I'm sure you already know the results. And because I've been on the road I've had to make do with brief radio updates so you probably know more about what's been going on than I do.Anyway, for what it's worth, here are my thoughts on the last few days.Murray vs KendrickI saw a replay of this match and it looked pleasingly simple. The occasional flashes of genuis from Murray, but this was a match on cruise control.Murray vs MathieuI got a radio update that said Murray was a set and a break down which sounded ominous. When I finally got the result hours later, I was stunned. Not that Murray had been able to turn it around, but the fact that he had to save match points in the process. Another testament to Murray's new found ability to turn m
Murray loses 2-6 3-6.The result isn't a shock as Djokovic is clearly a rising star with a strong all-round game, not to mention the fact that he has about two years more experience than Murray at the top level. What is a shock is the speed with which Murray was dispatched.Of course, the score doesn't tell the full story. The reality is that Murray probably should have pulled out before the match began. The injuries he sustained in the previous match may not have felt too severe but, once the match began, it soon became clear that Murray was not in a position to give his all.The trainer came on and reassured Murray that he was unlikely to do any lasting damage by continuing to play so Murray, to his credit, decided to see the match out.As usual, there were flashes of brilliance from Murray, the highlight was when he recovered from a brilliant Djokovic lob to play a cross-court winner from the back of the court, almost with his back to the net. Some cynics might have passed it off as a
