Aspire sculpture at University of Nottingham is tallest in Britain
In the world of public art, size matters, it seems. Artists are trying to outdo one another in constructing Britain's tallest sculpture. Works such as Antony Gormley's The Angel of the North in Tyne and Wear are being dwarfed by another public art commission, a slender tubular steel lattice that will rise 60 metres (almost 200ft) over Nottingham. Aspire, a landmark for the university, will be th

Oil Painting - Night Time Fun at the Nottingham Goose Fair
"Night Time Fun", Nottingham Goose Fair. 8"x10".Oil on canvas covered board. Alistair Butt © 2008.A change from the normal daylight subjects, a night time painting of the Nottingham Goose Fair .The reason/inspiration for choosing this subject was quite simple... I wanted to capture colours and the many light effects, with light coming from all sides and of different colours and how they effected the stands and the people at the fair. This view was selected, primarily due to the two smaller canvas roofed stalls almost silhouetted against the colourful fair ground ride behind them, the colour and tonal contrast was superb.

Nottingham Goose Fair - the search for something different...
A visit on Thursday to Nottingham Goose Fair...The plan had been to find some interesting fairground stands with good signs, soft toys, balloon's etc that were at last year's Nottingham Goose Fair. Although some came close, the displays on the stands or the subjects which had been very colourful/colorful, didn't appeal as they had done the previous year. Leaving that idea until another time, thankfully the setting sun provided one or two interesting subjects for future paintings. After sunset the Nottingham Goose Fair takes on a different feel with the lights of the rides and stands coming on plus the every increasing numbers of people. It's then time to play with a camera and almost 'paint with light'. When looking at the images, they really show the movement taken by the rides and while there are more images, due to space restrictions they cannot be shown. For more information regard the Nottingham Goose Fair which was first recorded in 1541 (over 700 years) can be found at http:

Indian Cricket Team is going into this match after almost loosing the first one, but thanks to M.S Dhoni and Rain that saves India from loosing the first test match. As we saw in First test match that Indian batsman fails to deliver when it matters, so if Indian cricket team wants to perform well in ongoing series then their batsman must take the responsibility especially senior pro.Indian team has announced their playing twelve for the Nottingham Test with Yuvraj Singh as twelfth man and its likely that Yuvraj may have to warm the bench once more. So Indians are going with same Playing XI which they were played at Lord’s.Sourav Ganguly's stiff back was the only selection headache for the the Indian selectors ahead of the second Test match and it seems the former skipper has recovered well.It has been raining at Nottingham from last two to three days and is likely that the second test match against India and England will be again rain interrupted match. THE FA Cup: Nottingham Forest 2 - 0 Charlton
LOL!Yes, Charlton are out of another trophy and the rings of "We are not a cup club" ring through our ears again. To be honest, if it hadn't been for a moment of madness in the first half, we might have won or taken the match to a replay. Now many fans would disagree with the fact that I'd have liked Charlton to have a great run in a cup this season, which we are fully capable of, because our FA Cup run was great last season, hense the reason why I took my drum up to the Riverside in the amazing QF replay.Today was a dissapointment, but I guess it fully leaves us to concentrate on Premiership survival, which is still looking iffy.Bad news in the Press today is that Pards looks as if he is going to listen to offers for Benty. That is not what I like to hear :(But lets get behind the lads at next weeks game, like we did at Arsenal, and cheer the lads on to Premiership survival.James - Staff Writer
