Alistair Butt © 2008.A change from the normal daylight subjects, a night time painting of the Nottingham Goose Fair .The reason/inspiration for choosing this subject was quite simple... I wanted to capture colours and the many light effects, with light coming from all sides and of different colours and how they effected the stands and the people at the fair.This view was selected, primarily due to the two smaller canvas roofed stalls almost silhouetted against the colourful fair ground ride behind them, the colour and tonal contrast was superb.

Alistair Butt © 2008.I was first attacted to the view was the interlocking shapes made by these stands at the Nottingham Goose Fair, with their areas of detail (the colourful lights, boards, the hanging soft toys, flags etc) against the simple area of grass. A visit on Thursday to Nottingham Goose Fair...The plan had been to find some interesting fairground stands with good signs, soft toys, balloon's etc that were at last year's Nottingham Goose Fair. Although some came close, the displays on the stands or the subjects which had been very colourful/colorful, didn't appeal as they had done the previous year. Leaving that idea until another time, thankfully the setting sun provided one or two interesting subjects for future paintings.After sunset the Nottingham Goose Fair takes on a different feel with the lights of the rides and stands coming on plus the every increasing numbers of people. It's then time to play with a camera and almost 'paint with light'.
