News: "Notre Dame will use Big East [football] officiating crews this season instead of crews from the Big Ten." That's all the little blurb, at the bottom of an SI.com article about the ND QB battle, said. However, you'd think if that 12th slot the Big 10 has left for ND over the years was really going to South Bend, ND wouldn't be switching to officials from the Big East conference.Not to mention the 2005 scheduling deal that ND struck with the Big East. Comments like " . . . the Big East has been a very beneficial relationship for us, and Mike T. encouraged us to do what we could, specifically if we would consider the prospect of making more of a commitment" does make it seem like the thought has crossed a few minds over in South Bend. You have to think that Big East Commissioner Mike Tranghese is sitting a lot prettier now compared to when the ACC gutted him and his league a few years ago. (CSTV U-WIRE) SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Coming off a record-breaking season in which the Irish finished 32-7-3, Notre Dame attempted to ensure the continued success of the hockey program Tuesday, signing coach Jeff Jackson to a two-year contract extension.

If the Browns decide to choose a QB (and I hope they don't), then my choice would be Brady Quinn. While JaMarcus Russell is a tremendously gifted athlete with a cannon for an arm, Brady Quinn is a more polished passer who is more prepared to step into a pro offense.Sentiment has shifted from Quinn to Russell over the past few months, in part due to LSU's bowl win over Notre Dame, but overall Quinn has a longer track record of quality play with a mediocre supporting cast, than Russell has with a better supporting cast. Russell is raw and probably has more upside, but also more potential downside and therefore is the riskier pick.

News: Jimmy Clausen, the wonder-kid brother of former Tennessee starters Rick and Casey, has become one of the first early-enrollee recruits at Notre Dame. According to an article in today's New Haven Register entitled "Notre Dame to expand, upgrade building", Notre Dame High School is expelling rumors of relocation out of town, and has presented a roughly $8.5-10 million plan to expand and renovate by 2010. In doing so, they chose a West Haven firm, Sapienza & Lessig Architects & Planners, to devise the plan.
