Norway is quite amazed at the number of its citizens gambling online. According to the Norwegian Gambling Commission’s statistics and statistical breakdown participants range from the youth to the elderly – particularly among the male population. 2007 saw a gigantic growth in online gambling participants and it seems that this is an unstoppable trend.

I’m just leaving Utopia when this tune comes on, and it finishes as I reach the junction that leads to either Bandera or Lost Maples. My ears are taking it all in – first I’m thinking 80’s retro pop rock. Then the cowbell pops in. No kidding. Back to the 70’s. The solo is overriding everything and staying interesting and staying intense, with quotes from many places – Queen, Led Zepplin, and every Southern Rock band in existence. Just when I think, okay, that’s enough of a good thing the drummer goes wild and the song ends. Deep breath. What a wild ride. Paul Gilbert

Citing feedback from both past guests and travel agents, NCL recently announced its Freestyle 2.0 fleet wide initiative featuring significant enhancements in its onboard experience further improving the guest satisfaction level. With the pending completion of the financial agreement for $1 billion with Apollo Management, LP (”Apollo”) nearing completion, the enhancements include a major investment in the total dining experience; upgrading the stateroom experience across the ship; new wide ranging onboard activities for guests all of ages; additional recognition, service and amenities for balcony, suite and villa guests; and a re-launch of a tiered Latitudes past guest recognition program. This solidifies NCL’s, and its parent company Star, determination to remain as one of the world’s leading suppliers of cruise vacations.
Hurtigruten Cruises, formerly Norwegian Coastal Voyages, has a wealth of specials to assist you in experiencing nature up close and personal from a cruise perspective. Having witnessed first hand the onboard environment of Hurtigruten, I can highly recommend it to adventure cruisers. I personally spoke with one of their onboard guides for Antarctica, and what a wealth of knowledge he was. What amazed me even more was his enthusiasm for Hurtigruten as a company, and their goals to satisfy the passenger. It’s not just a cruise, but more of a complete educational procress that enriches your life experiences in the short time you are with them. Now you have no excuses. The specials listed below are simply fabulous, and will enable you to see parts of the world you will long remember.
The Norwegian Caribbean Lines was founded with an 830 ton cruise ship/car ferry that provided low cost Norwegian Caribbean cruises, but later expanded its fleet by acquiring additional ships to cater to the Caribbean service. Norwegian Caribbean Lines were the first to include excursions to the Caribbean such as the Out Island Cruise as well as the first combined air-sea program that combined low cost air fares with the cruise and the company also developed new ports in the Caribbean such as Ocho Rios in Jamaica. With Norwegian Caribbean cruises, one can escape to the delightful Caribbean islands and snorkel in the Caymans as well as swim with dolphins. There are a number of Norwegian Caribbean cruises that each has different itineraries as well as costs and durations. There are tempting holiday packages to Great Stirrup Cay where one may snorkel to one's heart's delight, and be amazed at the variety of tropical fish, colorful sponges as well as corals that are sprinkled ar
The “It Girl” Godmother has finally arrived in the form of Cindy Cardella of Fairfield, NJ, who came out the winner among five finalists chosen by an online poll conducted by Norwegian Cruise Line. The ship’s Christening ceremony was held yesterday in New York. Cindy’s online video showcased how she best fit the model of the It Girl, and her love for Norwegian Cruise Lines. She will receive a seven-day cruise in the ultra-luxurious 5,000-square-foot Garden Villa for her and five of her entourage. With three boys, she can utilize all the space in that Garden Villa, and they will have the experience of a lifetime. Once again, Norwegian Cruise Line has an industry first, this time in the selection process of a godmother!
My son is reading skits from a book containing scripts from the old "Monty Python's Flying Circus," and out of nowhere--during dinner--began reciting lines from a skit called "The Cheese Shop," where he was able to call up a whole bunch of really big words and rattle off about fifteen different cheeses. I was pretty impressed, but I'll have to admit that at the same time I was a little miffed.

If you are considering a cruise, then you should seriously consider the Norwegian Caribbean Cruise Line as your cruise company of choice. Why? Because the Norwegian Caribbean Cruise Line offers some of the newest trends in cruise luxury. On a Norwegian Caribbean Cruise, you are free to do whatever you choose. No highly structures schedule here! Their motto is "Freestyle Cruising" and they do whatever they can to make sure their passengers have the freedom to spend their vacation however they wish. Norwegian Caribbean Cruise Line's motto of "Lifestyle Cruising" can be a little confusing to the experienced traveler. What does it mean? Norwegian Caribbean Cruise Line prides them on being innovative with their cruises. They do not greet passengers with a list of rules and a detailed schedule. Passengers can choose to plan each moment of their trip ahead of time, or go with their whims each day of the trip. For example, there are no scheduled times for meals on these ships. You c
In those places where cold is very intense, the ice that was formed in winter is not melted in summer. So the ice accumulates in the mountains in big amounts. Its own weight makes this ice roll down the mountain, like true ice rivers. This is called a glacier.Sometimes this glacier continues advancing towards the valleys nearby to the sea. These glaciers, by their own strength, dig the earth on their way, until they reach the sea. Salt water melts these ice rivers. When the entire glacier gets melted, results in a valley flooded by water, surrounded by mountains that are incredibly sculpted with awesome shapes. This is called a fjord. In Norway there are many fjords. In fact, it has the second biggest fjord in the world: Sognefjord. This one reaches a maximum depth of 4,291 ft under the sea level. Some Norwegian fjords are so rough and dangerous that the Norwegians needed to tie their livestock to avoid them falling to the abyss accidentally. The lands that surround the fjords are very fert
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has narrowed down the search for the Norwegian Gem’s new Godmother to 5 lucky ladies, all of whom have sailed on NCL before. The contest, called Search for the Latitudes “It” Girl, will decide who the winner will be, and become the Godmother of its new ship, Norwegian Gem. Over 500 online video entries were submitted by Latitudes members (past NCL guests) showcasing why they should be named the ship’s Godmother and what makes them the “It” Girl.
Norwegian Majesty’s arrival into Charleston this weekend has been delayed by one day. The ship will now arrive Sunday, November 18, 2007 because of several factors. On her return to Charleston, Norwegian Majesty was called by the Bermuda Rescue Command Center to come to the aid of a person in a sailboat who needed immediate medical attention. The passenger is currently being treated on board the ship. Also on the return, high winds and heavy seas necessitated the ship to operate at a reduced speed. In addition, planned maintenance during the ship’s stay in Bermuda included the overhaul of a cylinder head on one of the main engines. Unfortunately, after departure, a seal on the new unit developed a minor leak and required remedial work to correct it. Even if the engine had not had this issue, the ship would not be able to go any faster than the speed she is presently doing because of the heavy seas and strong wind conditions.

Are you “It”? What is “It”? It’s the new Godmother for the Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL) Gem, NCL’s newest ship to be christened in New York City on December 18, 2007. Invitations went out to all of NCL’s Latitudes members asking them to send in a video portraying their inner “It Girl” side, and tell NCL why they deserve to be the godmother of the newest cruise ship in the NCL fleet. Entries will be accepted from this week until November 12, 2007. A panel at NCL will determine the 5 finalists by November 15, 2007 and make an announcement. NCL is inviting the public to view the finalists video, and vote for their favorite. These votes will be used in determining the winner. The lucky grand prize winner will be in New York to christen the NCL Gem as part of an onboard ceremony by the cruise line. It's been a while since I've written about a prog-rock-band, so here we go again:Drom contacted me on myspace, and it surely sounded interesting enough to make me look deeper into the band. Well, actually... there's not too much to say about them yet. The four Norwegian guys only founded Drom in January 2007, rising out of the ashes of "extremly unknown band" In Media Res. 8 months was enough for them to release a Demo-EP, and what you can hear on that is damn fine stuff! The influences of the band are mostly neo-prog bands like Porcupine Tree, Opeth or Dream Theater, but you'll be able to also find some hints of alternative bands like say Radiohead or Sigur Rós; and on Cup Of Coffee, you will also be transported back to those old-school-prog-days. The four-track-EP really shows a new band with a lot of potential. I'm looking forward to hear more from these guys! The EP is fully available for free. You can download two of the tracks here, or all four of them on the band's MySpace.
HAWAII - I wasn't exactly Cameron Diaz emerging from the Pacific waters looking hotter than the sunshine, but there I was in Maui with a rented surfboard and the attention of a blond, tanned and buff instructor. Three tries and I'd yet to stand on the board, but surfer dude urged me on. And suddenly there I was, on my feet, feeling like I was in slow motion as a small wave pushed me gently to shore. 'd come to Hawaii to get active on a Norwegian Cruise Lines cruise. The 40-year-old cruise line offers itineraries for a weeklong cruise that gets you to the four main islands, starting on Oahu and visiting Maui, the Big Island and Kauai.

Jonas Store, Foreign Minister of Norway, urged people to resume ant-nuclear activism in order to counter the ever increasing threat of nuclear proliferation. He warned against allowing developing nations to acquire nuclear weapons and he also raise questions about nuclear activities within the United States and Great Britain. There are reports both nations are modernizing their nuclear capacities.
The summer issue of Atlantic carried a powerful article describing how American military strategists have developed plans for nuclear attacks upon China that would result in almost 95% of China’s nuclear capacity being rendered useless within 24 hours. Iran is not the only nation that should raise concerns about atomic bombs.

I really liked the rural look on this row of boathouses. The grass roof doesn’t hurt the scene with it’s old look. Boathouses like this represent the old fishing culture here in Norway in a good way. I hope people will take care of these beautiful buildings!

Nightwish leader/keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen and new vocalist Anette Olzon were recently interviewed by Patrizia Mazzuoccolo of Norway's NRK P3TV about the band's singer search, problems with previous front-woman Tarja Turunen and strip clubs, among other topics. Watch the five-minute clip at this location.

Writing about the new EU-regulations and the reaction they got in the UK, I also wanted to find out what this means for Norwegian sushi restaurants. I think they already have to comply with these regulations. This is a factsheet I found on the Norwegian Food Safety Authority’s website, which go in more detail about what is legal to do with raw fish in Norway.
To summarize: Norwegian farmed fish does not need to be frozen to be eaten raw, but most other imported and wild fish must be (fishrasism? :)). The frozen fish must reach an internal temperature of - 20 °C or lower for at least 24 hours. This has to be documented - both of the supplier and the restaurant. Restaurants etc. must be able to document also how they ensure control of the potential health risk posed by food sold. In the end I guess it is up to us sushi eater to ask for these this documentation, but I can’t ever see myself actually doing that. I want to trust that the sushi chef wants me well.

I enjoy watching clouds and I enjoy watching mountains so why not take pictures of them together. Looks like the clouds are hugging the mountain
The mountain peak is called “Drangen” and is about 1000 meters above sea level.

Norwegian Princess Maertha Louise claims to be clairvoyant !!
"I learnt how to systematize my impressions and to read other (people's minds), and through the horses I learnt to communicate with the animals on a deeper level," Princess Maertha Louise recently started a school for other wack jobs like herself!Maertha Louise looks like a butch to me!... I wonder if she knew I would say that?!
I recollect what Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO said when he unveiled the iPhone, he promised that it would put "the Internet in your pocket for the first time ever." I guess he might have meant internet of 1996s and not of 2007. Many first hand reviews of the iphone suggest that there are many features that are not available in the iphone. You cannot place a Skype call nor buy a song from iTunes, no 3G support, no flash or java support. And to make things even worse iPhone is only available on AT&T network (Two-Year Contract and $175 Termination Fee). However within weeks of the launch hundreds of Hackers have been working on breaking the iPhone restriction codes.Jon Johansen, 23, a prolific hacker from Norway claims on his blog to have found out a way to activate a brand new unactivated iPhone without giving any of your money or personal information to NSA AT&T. The iPhone does not have phone capability, but the iPod and WiFi work. Although this is to be tested and proved, but many pro
Cruise ships are a very common sight here in northern Norway, during the summer. Often you can see several cruise liners in the horizon.

I really liked the clouds on this photo. Can’t be too bad being a tourist on that ship with a scenery like that.

Liked the contrast between the two ships on this picture. They are both filled with tourists, but I think I would prefer to be in the small boat.
Recent years there has been an increasing number of fishing tourists coming here from Germany, Finland and Sweden. Hope they do not catch all my fish

This was shot back in January when I had just got my DSLR camera and had no idea about what I was doing. I quite like the “postcard” feeling to it.

17th of May is the Norwegian Constitution Day and the National Day. We celebrate that our constitution was signed on May 17th in 1814.
Was a very gray and wet day here in the north, but had to take a shot of the family house with a wet flag blowing in the breeze.

"it seems I have a weakness I didn't know about, till the day it rained...it seems my weakness has been bulging, has been forcing its way............."Thomas Dybdahl (born 1979 in Sandnes, Norway) is a Norwegian musician in singer/songwriter tradition.Thomas Dybdahl went out to become somewhat of a shooting-star in Norway. As a solo artist, the former guitarist of the band Quadraphonics released his first single EP Bird in 2000. His first release did not have much success, and his second EP from 2001, John Wayne, was also unsuccessful.Beginning with the release of his first album entitled ... That Great October Sound in 2002, the first part of his gold and platinum selling October series, he received national and even international appreciation for his unique work. Since then, and especially after the European release in 2004, Thomas Dybdahl's notability has increased significantly. The mostly positive reviews tout Dybdahl as a new pop wonder comparable to Nick Cave, Jeff Buckley an
I should've posted this earlier, from an e-mail by SliwaNews: an article from Aftenposten, about Kadra, an opponent of the Muslim belief in female circumcision, who was assaulted by a gang:Norwegian-Somalian Kadra, who became famous in Norway for exposing imam support of female circumcision, was beaten unconscious on Thursday.Kadra was attacked and beaten senseless by seven or eight persons of Somali origin, newspaper VG reports."I was terrified. While I lay on the pavement they kicked me and screamed that I had trampled on the Koran. Several shouted Allah-o-akbar (God is great) and also recited from the Koran," Kadra told VG.Kadra linked the attack to recent remarks in VG where she said that the Koran's views on women needed to be reinterpreted.Kadra said that the gang of Somali men attacked her around 3 a.m. in downtown Oslo on Thursday. A medical examination found that she had several broken ribs, NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting) reports. Kadra filed charges and was due to speak with
Petroleum World: Energy Policy: A Norwegian PerspectiveExcerpt:"A Common Energy FutureThis year we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the report of the World Commission on Environment and Development entitled “Our Common Future”. My choice of the word “celebrate” is deliberate. Not only because this UN Commission was chaired by Norway’s then Prime Minister Dr Brundtland, but mainly because it put the concept of “sustainable development” at the very top of the international political agenda. For discussion and for action – nationally, regionally and globally. It is still there today, with action more urgent than ever before. It highlighted the importance of oil prices and reducing market volatility, recommending that new mechanisms for encouraging dialogue between consumers and producers be explored. On that note Prime Minister Brundtland called in 1989 for an informal “Workshop of Ministers” of energy producing and consuming countries to discuss the resource an
I’m a big fan of the old boatsheds! They have such great texture and colors and tell stories about old times.
Notice the planks in the foreground that are used to get fishing boats out on the ocean without much hassle.
In the back you can see some beautiful mountains called Stakken and Snøtinden.
