The Norwegian government has mandated the use of open document formats from January 1st, 2009. I'll give a brief overview of what the article actually says. There are three formats that have been mandated for all documentation between authorities and users/partners, namely:HTML for all public information on the Web. In this picture you can see a small butterfish (Pholis gunnellus) that I found under a rock when the tide was out. It is about 20 cm long and got its name because it has very slippery skin.
When I was a kid I used to play at the coast all the time. One of my favorite activities was to look under rocks and seaweed when the tide was out. There was always something interesting to find, like a butterfish, a crab or some funky colored periwinkles. I still enjoy walking the coastline and I always bring the camera
Check out this photo of a hermit crab that I photographed on another trip at the coast.

In this picture you can see the characteristic fly agaric fungus (Amanita muscaria), also known as fly Amanita. There have been some talk that the vikings used to eat them to get into their “berserk mode”, but this is most likely just an urban legend. If you are wondering, I did not eat it
Captured the photo of the mushroom back in September when there was still some green grass to be seen.

In this picture you can see a plant called Garden Angelica (Angelica archangelica ssp. litoralis), also known as Holy Ghost, Wild Celery, and Norwegian Angelica, in its winter suit. The plant grows wild in northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland, but is also cultivated in France.
Garden angelica is well known to be used as spice, food and medicine here in Norway. Back in the days Sami people and Eskimos used Garden angelica as a way of preventing scurvy.
Check out this other Arctic plant called Roseroot that I photographed a while back.
As you might notice I played with my flash in this picture. I used the flash because there was so little light and I wanted to keep the sunset colors in the horizon. It was taken midday so you can see that we don’t have much light here.

I captured this picture, of the “sunrise”, at 10:30 AM. I guess it’s technically not a sunrise because we have polar night right now so the sun never rises above the horizon. Nice to see some signs of the sun during the dark season

Christmas is sneaking upon us extremely fast. Every year I have lots of trouble finding gifts for my friends and family.

According to the annual United Nations report Australia is the third most desirable country to live in. This is based on a various factors such as wealth, life expectancy and educational levels. Australia came in behind top-ranking Iceland and Norway in second spot. Seriously is that our competition - Iceland or Norway? I can't imagine people saying, wouldn't it be great to live in Iceland? These surveys produce some strange results and seem to be skewed towards the smaller European countries. To me, I think as an overall package and given the current world economy Australia is the best place to be. You can choose to have a hectic lifestyle or as easily a more laid back one! Jobs are plentiful and why live a long life if you can't enjoy it. 360 days of sunshine a year in Australia as compared to 100 or so in Iceland! Enough said. If I was to pick 2 alternatives based on lifestyle, economy and future prospects - I would say New Zealand or Spain would be my next 2 choices. W

In this photo I was lucky enough to catch the raven when it was divided between the blue sky and the snowy mountain. The raven was flying very fast so it was only luck on my side
Currently the sun have disappeared here in Northern Norway so I’m impatiently awaiting it’s return so I can take more pictures like this. Going on photo trips when everything is grey and sleet comes down from the sky is not fun.
Check out my other raven photos of a raven sitting on a boatshed roof and a raven flying into “gods eye”.

My favourite activity whenever I go to Kuala Lumpur is to drive around and look for places to eat. And this time, there are 2 eating places that I want to talk about. One is called Marché and another one is the Norway Bakery Moments Café.

In these photos I have captured the last remains of summer here in Northern Norway. These flowers are from the calendula plant, also known as pot marigold.
I was amazed how long these plants were able to survive. They were even flowering after some nights with frost.
The first photo is of an orange calendula flower that look relatively fresh.

These yellow calendula flowers, though, look like they had to cave in for the colder season.

In this picture you can see the optical phenomenon called Fata Morgana, on the coast in Northern Norway. Please click the image to get a larger view of the phenomenon. Notice how the coast (especially the small island on the left) is “miraged”. The phenomenon is a result of differences in temperature.
You can read more about Fata Morgana in this article on Wikipedia.
Check out this picture from last winter where the Fata Morgana phenomenon also appears.

So I went to a museum in the fort that was on Norway's resistance when they were taken over by Germany. The most striking thing about it? A wall of guns. I don't know why it was there (the explanation was in Norwegian) but when I saw it I thought of a certain someone who would appreciate it.*coughMichaelcough*It was kinda scary to behold. After the Museum, I went across the street to the City hall. I really liked the statue out front... The Swans are so pretty, and in a strange way, romantic. At least I think so. I think I'm going to play with this picture ot see if I can get rid of the buildings, so you just see the swans against the blue sky.The inside of city hall. It was actually kinda funky decor, but I liked it. Very impressive in the way that you could kinda tell they wanted to intimidate you. I think I accidentally snuck in, there wasn't a person at the desk so I just walked in and followed behind a tour. I think I went to some places I wasn't supposed to go, but i
