Aside from the much-talked about Toyota Urban Runner, another Toyota masterpiece was introduced at the ongoing Chicago Auto Show, North America’s largest auto show.    Popularly known as the Toyota 1/X, (pronounced as “one-Xth”) the vehicle was named after its mass, fuel use and emissions output, which totals to that fraction compared to other vehicles of the same class. To give you an example, its 500 cc flex-fuel engine, a part of a plug-in hybrid powertrain weighs only one quarter than that of a Prius.  With this, it could travel up to 600 miles using a small four-gallon tank fuel bearing an acceleration performance similar to that of a Prius.  Also, its ultra-lightweight aerodynamic feature is claimed to be just one-third than that of Prius - maybe a bit more than the weigh

Castle of Shikigami 3 coming to North America on the Wii
Color me surprised. I had a feeling that Shikigami No Shiro 3 would eventually make its way stateside, but I was a bit unsure of which direction a US publisher would take in regards to the port (either the Xbox 360 version, Nintendo Wii version, or both). Aksys has announced today that they intend on released the Wii version of Shikigami No Shiro 3 (now known as Castle of Shikigami 3) in the US in Spring 2008. There was no mention about whether or not the Xbox 360 version of the game will also be getting a release in the United States.Though this isn't my favorite game in the series, it is still a good shooting game that deserves some attention from any fan of the genre. The bullet "buzzing" feature is well done and though it rewards a more "suicidal" style of play, high score fanatics should find enough variation in the game to find the game worthy of some dedicated play time.Hopefully Aksys will take a bit more care with the translation that the series didn't receive with its l

NORTH AMERICA: Mexico leftist Lopez Obrador demands oil investment; followers attack church
A former leftist presidential candidate called on Mexico's government Sunday to "urgently" invest US$36 billion (€24.6 billion) to combat oil declining reserves, and asked his followers to resist any possible privatization of the industry. Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador spoke to about 100,000 followers in Mexico City's main square, one of the smallest turnouts he has drawn since he narrowly lost the disputed July 2006 elections to President Felipe Calderon. He claimed he now has 1.7 million registered supporters nationwide, and expects to reach a total of 5 million next year. But his followers also appeared likely to re-ignite tensions with the Roman Catholic Church, after about 50 people at the rally stormed into the city's main cathedral, overturning pews and knocking over an altar rail. They said they were angered by the pealing of the cathedral's bells during Lopez Obrador's rally, but his followers have frequently interrupted services there, shouting slogans against church

North America Not Alone in Loss of Freedoms
(Archived in: Personal Freedom Related Miscellany)It seems that new found friends the French are getting a dose of what the USA has experienced with the ongoing fear mongering, making way for more executive orders, less control of borders, and the steady stream of freedoms lost since 911.Remember when fast food chains quit calling French Fries "French Fries" in protest of France? Well, the US and France are buddies again.Good for them, and the irony is that there would probably be no US of A, if the French had not pulled the US bacon out of the fire to end the Revolution. Now both countries seem to be on similar paths again with regard to loss of liberties.Call me crazy, but there certainly seems to be a push for global trade zones, and less national sovereignty. The latest being the renewed attempt to ratify L.O.S.T. (Law of the Sea Treaty). It's a great acronym, for much sovereignty is at risk to be "lost".New blog buddy, Steve Mulligan, sent me this link about the Big Brother surve

NORTH AMERICA: Canada-Mexico Energy Deal Signals Deeper Bilateral Ties
Long restricted in their ability to do business in the Latin American country, foreign firms are taking new interest. A new agreement between a Calgary-based oil and gas firm and Mexico's state-run energy company is being hailed as a significant deal that could signal the beginning of a shift in what defines the Canada-Mexico relationship.Canadian company Nexen Inc. and Mexico's Pemex signed a memorandum of understanding earlier this month in which the two sides agreed to collaborate in exploration and production activities, and share technology, research and expertise. This comes seven months after Alberta signed a co-operation agreement with the Mexican energy ministry, in which the provincial government made a point of highlighting the vast potential the Latin American country holds for Canadian investors.Mexico has more than 12 billion barrels of proven oil reserves and more than 14.5 trillion cubic feet of proven natural gas reserves. The Alberta government says at least 25 compa

North America's Most Controversial Underwater Archaeological Discovery of the 20th Century--Photos
Rock Lake in southern Wisconsin, dubbed "North America's Most Controversial Underwater Archaeological Discovery of the 20th Century." The first settlers of Lake Mills, Wisconsin in the 1830s heard stories from the Winnebago Indians about "stone teepees" submerged in nearby Rock Lake. Over time, especially during periods of extreme drought, fishermen reported seeing large geometric structures on the lake floor. The few times archaeologists came to investigate, they couldn't locate the structures and dubbed the underwater features a hoax. At one point the mayor of Lake Mills spotted one of the pyramids himself and the technological search was on.Aerial photos, side boat sonar scans, and underwater divers eventually charted a complex of at least nine different stone structures, including: two rectangular pyramids, several stacked–rock walls, two "Stone Cone" areas, a conical pyramid, and a large "Delta Triangle" structure. There is also a part of the lake floor that supposedly feature

Mexican President Felipe Calderon says he'll suspend a gasoline tax and block any LP gas or electricity price increases for the rest of the year.Calderon today announced the goal is to avoid hurting poor families already affected by the rising cost of other products.A 5.5% tax on gasoline is part of a broader fiscal reform that Calderon proposed and Mexico's Congress approved earlier this month. The tax was to be applied gradually over a period of 18 months, starting in October, and revenues from the tax were to be distributed to Mexico's state governments.Calderon didn't say when the gasoline tax would go into effect or for how long he would block electricity and LP gas increases.Via: Associated PressCalderon Postpones Mexico GasTax to Avoid Backlash Mexican President Felipe Calderon postponed a new gasoline tax and halted fuel-price increases for the rest of the year, bowing to lawmakers who said his plan to overhaul tax legislation would stoke inflation. NORTH AMERICA: Canadian Superior updates status on Victory, Well Offshore Trinidad
Canadian Superior Energy Inc. announced today that its "Victory" well is currently drilling on the "Intrepid" Block 5(c) offshore Trinidad at a depth of 12,285 feet subsea. The "Victory" well had previously reached a total depth 16,621 feet (subsea), and was evaluated while drilling with Measurement While Drilling (MWD) and Logging While Drilling (LWD) data (gamma, electrical resistivity, cutting samples, gas in mud measurements, drilling parameters). However, while attempting to come out of the hole to commence wireline logging and possibly flow testing of the well, difficulties were encountered which resulted in being unable to remove the full drillstring from the well. Accordingly, the drillstring was severed at a depth of approximately 11,726 feet and the well plugged back to a depth of approximately 9,594 feet, as announced on September 11, 2007. The lower portion of the well is being re-drilled to a projected total depth of approximately 16,000 feet and is being directionally dr

Driving the Highest Paved Road in North America
Echo LakeYesterday I mentioned driving the Peak to Peak Scenic Highway when we lived in Colorado. Another scenic drive that we enjoyed was the 14 mile Mount Evans Road which ends at an elevation of 14,230 feet above sea level. There are several places to stop along the way. If you go, consider packing a picnic and allow time for exploring. The last four to five miles of the road closes early in September, but you can still drive up to Summit Lake at about 12,000 feet. It is cold and windy at that elevation, so if you go, bring warm clothing.Summit Lake
