Bob Barr, Former Republican, Announces Bid for Libertarian Nomination
With the three remaining candidates for president being so weak, inspiring, and just plain nauseating, it is time to start looking somewhere else, anywhere else. My search has led me here, for starters.  Bob Barr, a former Republican, has announced he is running to become the Libertarian party nominee for president. “My name is Bob Barr and [...]

      The Nomination Fight Is Over
I know I'm not the first, and I won't be the last, but I'm declaring the Democratic nomination fight over. Barack Obama won. We all know the argument: Obama leads in pledged delegates (1,593 to 1,425) Obama leads in superdelegates for the first time (266 to 264) Obama leads the popular vote (15,930,241 to 15,219,684) There are other, less empirical arguments too. As the Carl Hulse and David Herszenhorn point out in the New York Times, party leadership is starting to treat Obama like the nominee as well: Behind the scenes, there were new discussions between Mr. Obama and the party leadership. Senior Democratic officials said he met with Speaker Nancy Pelosi when their paths crossed at Democratic Party headquarters. They had spoken by telephone earlier in the week. Ms. Pelosi and Mrs.

      Obama Locks Up Nomination
While Hillary Clinton continues to campaign, one thing has become very clear; Barack Obama has won the Democratic nomination for President. I say this not only because every news outlet is reporting the same thing, but that Obama has proven he can overcome pretty much anything thrown at him. All negatives that his opponents have mustered against him, have completely failed to negatively affect his campaign in any way. Sure, many people grew angry and weary at him over the Reverend Wright issue, but during Tuesdays primaries Obama proved he can still get votes. Obama should now set his focus on his Republican opponent, John McCain. Clinton still has a very solid opportunity at being named Obama's Vice-President, although John Edwards or Bill Richardson are they most likely candidates.

      Grammar and the Nomination Fight
One reason I'm really looking forward to Hillary Clinton's (likely) concession, whenever it comes, is that one of the most annoying grammar mistakes I've ever seen will recede somewhat in the public discourse. People, including major bloggers, will simply not stop talking about "the Clinton's." Look: one Clinton + one Clinton = two Clintons. No apostrophe. Even if your document editor puts a red underline underneath the word (as mine is doing right now), ignore it. It's "the Clintons." This crops up with other names too, but people really seem to love to do it with Bill and Hillary Clinton. I'd like to congratulate my fellow Seminal contributors on their mastery of this grammatical concept.

The Democratic Nomination Race Ended on Tuesday, The Question is When the Clintons Will Realize It
Tuesday night was, for all intents and purposes, the sign that the race to the Democratic nomination has ended.  Barack Obama's strong victory throughout North Carolina and Hillary Clinton's narrow margin of victory in Indiana are enough to presume that there is no real chance for Clinton to wrest the nomination away from the front runner. The popular vote is against her.  The  math is against her. Soon, the Superdelegates will start aligning with Obama.  The rationale for her campaign — electability, momentum, key wins — have dissipated with the numbers from North Carolina.  Now the Clintons are fierce campaigners.  Since Bill Clinton was elected as Attorney General of Arkansas in 1976, the Clintons collectively have lost just one election — the Governorship in 1

With Clinton trailing Obama by a slim margin in the delegate count, people are beginning to wonder what will be done with the delegates that were not awarded during the original Michigan and Florida primaries. Due to the impatience of the state governments in both states, both primaries were moved up and the DNC stripped both states of their delegates. Does McCain Really Have The GOP Nomination Locked?
Is it really guaranteed that Sen. John McCain will win the Republican nomination? If not, why is this said and what is the motivation? The people preaching McCain's unavoidable Republican nomination usually fall into one or more of three categories. I've created a name for these stereotypical political cliques. The Talking Head Pundit(s)-The THP(s) for shortTHPs have many motivations. However, their actions usually boil down to a common goal called money. Most THPs will do anything to get attention. A THP will seize upon any incident that will shock or make a large chunk of people unhappy. Not only will they run with it, they will ride it until it no longer appears lucrative to do so. Sensationalization is key to the fattening a THPs' wallet. All it takes is a kernel of truth and a who

50th Annual Grammy Awards Nomination List
Fracas has little patience these days. Being almost too busy for pants (some of you will know what this means and the rest of you should just ask…) these days, it’s just a little much to ask of a person than to repeatedly try to access the Official Grammy Awards Site to view the list of nominees for the 2008 Grammy Awards, only to find that everyone else and their dog is also trying to do the same thing and therefore every second click throws you back to a white-screen-no-access-check-your-damn-LAN-settings page when you know the only problem is there are too many people all trying to view the same page at the same time. Imagine my surprise then, to actually get in! Hot Damn. Would you think I’m going to deprive the fraccy readers of knowing how many nominations hard-livin’, snort-happy Amy Winehouse received? You’d be right if you, like Gypsy Fra-Kitty, had a premonition of sorts, and just knew that I’d post the main part of it for you here. Ok..

Irrfan Khan Bags Independent's Spirit Award Nomination
The talented Irrfan Khan has been nominated by Film Independent's Spirit Award in the Best Supporting Actor category.Speaking from New York, Irrfan could barely contain his surprise. “Mira Nair got the Gotham Award and I was there to watch this historic moment. Barely 24 hours later comes this announcement about me. The Spirit Awards to me is every bit as prestigious as the Oscars. But unlike the Oscars, they are totally independent and based entirely on merit rather than lobbying. I’m honoured to be alongside Don Cheadle, Frank Langella and Philip Seymour Hoffman (all nominated in the Best Actor category).”Philip is Irrfan’s favourite actor. They met after the Gotham Awards at a party on Monday. “His versatility has always taken my breath away. He started with just two scenes in Scent Of A Woman . Somewhere I identify with him. When I met him, it was a dream come true,” said Irrfan.Uma Thurman, too, interacted with Irrfan at a lunch hosted by th

Senate Democrats give up on blocking Mukasey nomination

      Senate Committee Approves Mukasey Nomination
The Senate Judiciary Committee voted on Tuesday to approve the nomination of Michael B. Mukasey as Attorney General, despite opposition from most of the committee’s cowardly Democrats over Mr. Mukasey’s refusal to label an interrogation technique used by CIA as torture. The vote, 11 to 8, with two Democrats joining all of the committee’s Republicans in supporting Mr. Mukasey, all but assured him of final confirmation by the full Senate. The Senate’s Democratic leaders are expected to schedule a vote by next week. The nomination of Mr. Mukasey was almost derailed by his refusal at his confirmation hearings to define as torture the interrogation technique known as waterboarding, which simulates drowning and is reported to have been used by the Central Intelligence Agency on a handful of Qaeda leaders since the Sept. 11 terror attacks. Democrats are not capable of doing what it takes to protect America and win the war on terror. They’re wimps who are more interested in cod

      Mukasey Nomination In Jeopardy?
Democrats seem to be lining up in opposition to the nomination of Michael Mukasey as Attorney General. Just a few weeks ago, Mukasey was thought to be breezing through the nomination process. Now? Not so much.Senators Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), Carl Levin (D-Michigan) and Chris Dodd (D-Connecticut) have all announced their opposition to Mukasey because the nominee refuses to acknowledge the waterboarding is torture (which it is.)I still think Mukasey will be confirmed, but the overwhelmingly confirmation the President wanted is not going to happen now.

Chocolate and Tae Bo: Mommy of the Year nomination nods continue.
When are those Mommy of the Year Awards?  I have another letter of recommendation to support my nomination. Pants crawled into bed with us around 3am last night.  This is a new habit of his, one that I have been unable to break.  I've been unable to break it largely because I haven't tried.  At all.  Look, at 3am I would let a Gila monster crawl into bed with me; I'm too tired to fight it.  But that's not my nomination support.  No, it gets much better. Sometime around 6:30 or so this morning, I vaguely remember Pants waking up and saying he wanted to go into the living room.  I vaguely remember thinking I had better wake up and go with my three year old.  I vaguely remember convincing him to wait for me for a little while longer.  And I vaguely remember giving into his statement that he was really leaving this time, muttering, "I'll be right there..." and then closing my eyes for just one more minute.  I was up pr

A Giuliani Nomination Will Destroy Republican Coalition
A Republican Pro-Abortion CandidateWill Bring About A Third Party Candidate Alarmed at the chance that the Republican party might pick Rudolph Giuliani as its presidential nominee despite his support for abortion rights, a coalition of influential Christian conservatives is threatening to back a third-party candidate in an attempt to stop him.The group making the threat, which came together Saturday in Salt Lake City during a break-away gathering during a meeting of the secretive Council for National Policy, includes Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family, who is perhaps the most influential of the group, as well as Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, the direct mail pioneer Richard Viguerie and dozens of other politically-oriented conservative Christians, participants said. Almost everyone present expressed support for a written resolution that “if the Republican Party nominates a pro-abortion candidate we will consider running a third party candidate.”Read Article...Rud

Conservatives Threaten Third Party If Giuliani Wins Republican Nomination
Michael Scherer reports that many on the religious right are considering a third party campaign should a pro-abortion rights candidate such as Rudy Giuliani win the Republican nomination. This leaves many liberals thrilled with the idea of an easy win, while some liberals such as Ron Beasley are also looking for an independent alternative to the Democratic candidates. I don’t have much hope that this will have a lasting impact. Assuming the Democrats stay away from fringe candidates such as Kucinich, Gravel, and increasingly John Edwards, they should win in 2008 regardless of what the Republicans do. The conservative wing of the Republican Party has intermittently played with challenges to the Republican Party in the past, but this rarely goes anywhere as they realize they have a greater chance for electoral success by concentrating on fighting for control of the GOP. On paper a Giuliani Republican Party looks good and I might support a socially liberal Republican over many Democ

GOP Nomination to Require Invasion, Assassination
WASHINGTON -- The Republican National Committee approved plans Friday to change its presidential nomination process for 2008, awarding the nomination to the candidate who personally kills Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Under previous rules, the nomination process involved a long, expensive, and protracted series of primary elections and caucuses and the collection of delegates, culminating in a little-heeded national convention. According to the new rules approved today, the Republican Party will bestow its presidential nomination upon the candidate who is first able to personally invade Iran, disable or destroy all of the country’s nuclear facilities, and assassinate the president – alone and with no assistance from any other person or entity.“This is a vast improvement to the old way of doing things,” said RNC co-chair Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Fla. “It eliminates the need for candidates to be ‘appealing’ or pass any arbitrary litmus test on social issues.”“Wh

Manchester United 7, Roma 1. This is the Champions League. This is the best of the best of football. The greatest teams in the world compete in the latter stages. By and large, the 8 teams that were left in the competition at 7pm tonight were amongst the best teams in Europe. And Manchester United beat Roma worse than they beat Burton Albion a few years back. It was utter bliss to watch. You can’t help feel that Karma was helping last night. Roma (and Italian Football) have embarrassed Manchester United (and English Football) by sullying the majority of honest fans, whilst protecting it’s heavy handed police force. PBB Season 2: Third Nomination Night
Call it religious irony, but on the day when everyone is supposed to celebrate a new spiritual life, the housemates just seem to have lost a great deal of spirit. And this third nomination night no one was to be spared, as the nominations would be based on violations. Holy Week brought bad tidings for everyone in the PBB house. Because of their numerous activities and daily tasks, the housemates were not able to pay attention to their weekly task – and Big Brother made them pay. He declared that because they were not able to reach the 500-egg quota, they have failed the weekly task. Big Brother also mentioned that the housemates did not wear their uniforms properly, and also forgot to hop around as they wore it. So this leaves them with P2,400 for the next week, less sixty percent. Mickey quickly told the housemates that in the spirit of Holy Week, they should have been able to prioritize and note which activity they had to pay close attention to. The others noted that the other
