Nokia has announced a product advisory for the Nokia branded BL-5C battery. The battery was made by Matsushita Battery Industrial Co. Ltd. of Japan between December 2005 through November 2006. It could potentially cause overheating due to a short circuit while charging that will cause the battery to dislodge.Nokia estimates that more than 300 million of the BL-5C batteries have been made from various suppliers, however the recall applies ‘only to the 46 million’ batteries made by Matsushita. So far there have been about 100 reports worldwide of the battery actually overheating. I suppose 100 out of 46 million is not that bad, but if you have this battery you can request a replacement from Nokia. Today Nokia announced that they intend to equip all of future devices with built-in GPS with Assisted GPS (A-GPS). Assisted GPS (A-GPS) service helps Nokia Maps users find their current locations faster and get to their desired locations quicker using their Nokia mobile device with built-in GPS. The first devices to use this service are the Nokia 6110 Navigator, which has begun shipping in select markets, and the most recent software release of the Nokia N95 multimedia computer. Current owners of the Nokia N95 can take advantage of this free service by using the Nokia Software Updater. This will update the firmware on the device to the latest version. This service has the ability to reduce the time a connected mobile device with built in GPS needs to find its current position, known as time to first fix (TTFF) for most geographical locations worldwide. The reduced fix times can increase and improve the usability for all Nokia location-based experiences.
Nokia today announces the availability of Nokia Eseries business devices in the U.S. through a variety of channels, allowing both business and individual users to obtain enterprise-grade dual-mode devices - including the new Nokia E61i and Nokia E65 - in this market. Nokia is addressing the market demand from both businesses and individual users through complementary sales channels including IT, operator, and retail/e-tail. Business customers can now purchase fleets of Nokia Eseries devices through the IT channel, the preferred and trusted channel of businesses. Nokia supplies the devices to the IT channel through distribution agreements with Brightpoint and Ingram Micro.
