Nightwish had a gig in Jyvaskyla in Finland on Friday. After only three songs they had to stop playing due to thick smoke on stage. Finnish newspapers reported that there was a lot of smoke and flames in the roof. The whole audience, about 6500 people, was evacuated immediately. Nightwish quickly stepped back from the stage, but came back later on and continued the gig. People were not in panic, but a little bit furious due to half an hour break. The fire was a real, but hopefully the firemen took the situation in control. People were not reported about the incident, which is probably one reason for being frustrated. Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish was born in 1996 and released their first album, Angel Fall First, in November 1997. Their real breakthrough happened with Oceanborn album which was released in December 1998. Nightwish continued to gain attention with their next album Wishmaster which was released in spring 2000. Since those days has happened this and that, but the fact is that Nightwish has become one of the flagships of Finnish music industry. Although there are lots of fans and lots of those who do not like Nightwish, it is fantastic to see Nightwish, as one of the Finnish metal bands, being successful. I remember purchasing Oceanborn album back in 1998. It was a stunning album because it was different and new. I found those instrumental melodies combined with mezzo-soprano vocals just stunning. I spent spring 1999 skiing in France with few dudes. We played Oceanborn album every single day after skiing the whole day in the Alps. I remember some folks getting bored and complain

Nightwish is making money nowadays. The costs of making their new album were 500 000 euros which is pretty much for a metal band, so they probably expect a good revenue. Nightwish is clearly targeting to mainstream and expects good sales. Well, that’s nothing new and there is nothing bad in it. It is just interesting to see how far Nightwish will go. Nightwish music videos are directed by Antti Jokinen, a professional Finnish director who has worked with many “big names”. When watching the Nightwish videos, especially the old ones and comparing them to Amaranth and Nemo, you can clearly see the development. The new Nightwish music videos are just perfectly made and they belong into the “top class”, let’s say. I am glad for that. It is always good to see bands of my homecountry becoming famous. Heti alkuun tehtäköön selväksi, että en ole aiemmin ollut Nightwishin konsertissa, joten vertailupohjaa ei ole. En myöskään muutamaa Suomi-pop kokoelmalevyn raitaa lukuunottamata ole omistanut Nightwishin tuotantoa. Suuntasin siis Nightwishin New Yorkin konserttiin melko tietämättömänä siitä mitä tuleman pitää. Paikka oli Nokia Teatteri aivan Manhattanin sydämessä Times Squarella. Nokia Teatteri sijaitsee kirjaimellisesti Broadwayn alla; paikkaan laskeudutaan rullaportaita Läntisen 44:n kadun puolelta. Teatteri on moderni, kuten Nokia nimeä kantavan paikan voi olettaa olevan. Vuonna 2005 avatussa teatterissa on kolme täysin oikeuksin toimivaa baaria sekä Nokia Lounge, missä kävijät voivat ladata kännyköittensä akkuja, imuroida soittoääniä ja pelejä sekä tutustua Nokian uusimpiin tuotteisiin ja palveluihin. En él, Nightwish se descuelga con un cover de Gary Moore, justamente "Over The Hills And Far Away", presentando además varios temas propios como "Tenth Man Down y Away" y una versión re-grabada del clásico "Astral Romance" del Angels Fall First que cuenta con la colaboración de Tonny Kakko, vocalista de Sonata Arctica. In fact Nightwish has climbed to the top of Finnish, German and Swiss album lists with their latest album Dark Passion Play. Dark Passion Play es el sexto album de Nightwish cuyo lanzamiento se espera para el 26 de setiembre de 2007 a través de Nuclear Blast y el 28 del mismo a través de Roadrunner. Presenta a la nueva vocalista, Anette Olzon, que es responsable de sustituir a la insustituible Tarja Turunen. Su producción costó más de 500.000 Euros, lo que lo hace el album más costoso de la música finlandesa, y esto se debe en gran parte a la contratación de la London Session Orchestra. Hoy me llevé una sorpresa y creo que fui el último en enterarse, pero si no fue así aquí les informo. Desde el 24 de mayo, es decir hace unos tres días se anunció en la página oficial de Nightwish que el grupo ya tenía nueva vocalista principal. Su nombre es Anette Olzon de 35 años. En la misma página puedes descargar un video muy corto, que es como una presentación y agradecimiento. Que como ya está en Youtube se los pongo acá. También hay uno de esos videos que solo son música, es del nuevo sencillo que sale el 30 de mayo, osea pasado mañana. Se llama Eva, chéquenlo es la voz de Anette. Realmente espero que les guste, sé que hay mucha gente que pensaba que Nightwish era Tarja Turunen, pero es posible que Anette ocupe su lugar.
