There is a new scam that is going around which is actually an elaborate form of the Nigerian Email Scam, or 419 Fraud. I’m sure you know the one — its where you get an email out of nowhere telling you that you’ve won / been bequeathed / need to hide millions of dollars, and that all the other folks need is your bank account number. This version of the Nigerian Email Scam is one where sites, or blogs, are solicited for display, or text link (paid) ads. I found this nugget of information on a security site called F-secure, no less, where the scammers in question used the subject line “partnership enquiry“, or “Website Partnership Enquiry”, that enquiry being, of course, their solicitation to purchase advertising on your site, in the form of display ads and text link ads. From F-S

Crime Prevention Starts With You And Your Family
More often than not, crimes occur because we open ourselves and our families to criminal opportunities. Talking to strangers, absence of security procedures for anonymous callers, taking for granted one’s safety outside the home, etc. make us easy prey to criminals. In the fight against crime, knowing that the worst can happen makes you less prone to be a victim and more confident of avoiding disasters.
Protecting yourself, your family and your home is a matter of responsibility that cannot be taken on by anyone else. You can make the difference.
Securing your Home and your Belongings
There are three things you can do to help reduce burglary:
Make your home burglar-proof.
Mark your belongings that burglars are most likely to steal.
Be alert to report suspicious persons and unusual activities to the police before a crime may occur.
What you can do to Secure Your Home
Ensure all doors and windows have locks in

Cnooc Ltd. is considering buying stakes in two Nigerian blocks held by Royal Dutch Shell Plc, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing an unidentified person familiar with the matter. Shell plans to sell interests in two Nigerian offshore blocks, the report said. A block is a geographic area of territory over which the owner holds exploration and drilling rights, the report said. The sales of the block stakes, each amounting to 49.8 percent, could fetch as much as $900 million, the WSJ said. Eni SpA's Agip unit holds the remaining 50.2 percent, it said. Shell has said it expected to sell about $9 billion in assets in 2007, the report said. The Nigerian Senate reacted with anger toward passage in the United States Congress of a bill that would allow the American government to sue members of OPEC on grounds they were a monopoly that fixed prices. Many American legislators believe OPEC limits production and arranges prices to suit their own needs rather than allow free market factors to determine prices. A Nigerian senator accused Americans of having a “neo-colonialist” attitude” which makes them regard their interests as the only significant ones in the world.
There is scant doubt OPEC fixes prices, but that is a decision made by oil producers. America may not like their decision to fix prices, but we have no right to enforce our values or interests upon the world.

The Black Hawks drafted Akim Aliu in the second round last week. Akim "The Dream" was born in Nigeria, raised in the Ukraine, and moved to Canada when he was 11. What a story. His father was Nigerian and his mother was Ukrainian.Aliu is a tough guy with great hands. He scored 20 goals and 42 points in 53 games with the Sudbury Wolves last season. He also accumulated 104 penalty minutes.Aliu is probably more known for his controversial side to this point. In 2005, he refused to be a part of an initiation ritual with a few teammates with the Windsor Spitfires. The ritual was to "cram his naked body into a hot, smelly toilet along with several other fellow Windsor Spitfires rookies." His refusal to do so may have angered Spitfire teammate and Flyer's prospect Steve Downie and they met head to head in practice (video).Aliu is a brave dude. Offering puppies is the newest twist in Nigeria scams
By David Colker, Los Angeles Times
“And now for the latest scam from Nigeria: puppies. The Council of Better Business Bureaus and American Kennel Club were to issue a warning today about fraudulent Web sites, MySpace postings and print ads asking people to help save puppies that are in desperate straits. The sites and ads usually show adorable bulldog puppies that have become stuck somehow in Nigeria or other countries and are offered free to new owners. A variation offers purebred English bulldogs — a particularly expensive breed — at vastly discounted prices.
People who responded to the ads eventually were asked to send hundreds of dollars to cover expenses such as shipping, customs, taxes and inoculations on an ever-escalating scale.
Some reported paying fees totaling more $1,500.
“It’s like the Nigerian advance-fee scams we’ve been seeing for years, except with the face of a puppy,” said Steve Cox

Since Nigeria returned to democracy in May 1999, after almost three decades of military rule, and almost two decades of economic crises, the country has been faced with the complex challenges of national reconciliation, national reconstruction and economic reform.
The most urgent issue in Nigeria currently is the issues of democracy, understood not only as an end to military rule but also as the establishment of responsive and responsible political institutions which promote a government that is accountable, prevent corruption, respect human and civil rights, and ensure popular sovereignty.
In the midst of these, Nigerian youth have great roles to play to support what the present administration is doing since 1999 when the country backed to democratic system of government. But there are so many factors impeding Nigerian youth as a part of our democratic process growth. The factors are unemployment, non-availability of good and sound education, non-access to good social amenities such a
A lawyer died and arrived at the pearly gates. To his dismay, there were thousands of people ahead of him in line to see St. Peter. But, to his surprise, St. Peter left his desk at the gate and came down the long line to where the lawyer was, and greeted him warmly. Then St. Peter and one of his assistants took the lawyer by the hands and guided him up to the front of the line, and into a comfortable chair by his desk. The lawyer said, "I don't mind all this attention, but what makes me so special?" St. Peter replied, "Well, I've added up all the hours for which you billed your clients, and by my calculation you must be about 193 years old!"
