Cycle four of Australia's Next Top Model will be the fourth series of the show and will premiere on April 22, 2008 on FOX8. Auditions were held during October and November of 2007 across Australia, searching for the next "Top Model" of Australia. This series will be hosted by previous host Jodhi Meares and Ian Thorpe will be returning as a special guest for this cycle. Saleisha Stowers won the title of America’s Next Top Model last night. The finale started with Stowers duking it out with her fellow top 3 finalists Chantal and Jenah in the usual Cover Girl commercial challenge. After that, Jenah, who was judged “too sarcastic” to be crowned Top Model, was ousted leaving Chantal and Saleisha to go at it.
The final showdown of ANTM took place on a catwalk in the Beijing’s Forbidden City. Cycle 8 Winner, Jaslene Gonzalez, made an appearance and opened the staged show, which featured 500 extras in traditional dress but no audience besides Tyra and her entourage.
Saleisha’s win is not without controversy, since it’s been revealed that she’s had prior modeling experience, attended Tyra’s T-Zone camp, and (drum roll, please) was actually featured on The Tyra Banks Show. Oh, and she was in a nationally-televised Wendy’s commercial (source).

I am starting to form opinions on some of these girls finally. At this point, I can definitely say which girls I favor and which I do not like.
Sarah went home this week and in my opinion, she deserved to. Sarah is a beautiful girl who has great presence on film but she is too big to be a top model. Let’s face it, no “plus size” model will ever win the show. Why do they even allow them to compete? There is not as much calling for plus size models, especially when they are Sarah’s size. She can hardly be considered plus size. She was a few sizes larger than the other girls but she was in no way large or plus size.
The girl who seems to be extremely consistent as far as behavior and photos is Lisa. I personally don’t like Lisa. She looks like someone I have met in person. Today, I had a great shoot with A.J. Stewart from America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 7. The shoot was for an editorial in Supermodels Unlimited Magazine to run later this year. We did a little flashback to the 80’s with a bit of a Punk feel; quite ironic though, A.J. was born in ‘85 so her recollection of the 80’s is a bit fuzzy. The team we put together was outstanding and really helped A.J. get into the mood of the 80’s. A.J. is a sweetheart and a pleasure to work with. We shot 9 looks between 10 AM and 4 PM.

My intuition has proved me right.You might recall a couple of weeks ago I posted on the fact that Diane Zalewski was eliminated from America's Next Top Model. Within that same post I remarked that, in my opinion, it will be a long time until curvier models really make a stand and move forward in such competitions. To me it's just a stereotype in such shows which will take years to break down. Unfortunately I was proved right as this week the last remaining 'plus size' contestant, Whitney Cunningham, was eliminated from the show. So America's Next Top Model returns to being a skinny-only content.Pity. She went home tonight and I'm happy that she did because she looks like a teenage boy going through puberty. It's good that she went home because now the little Ms-know-it-all can cry about how she really DOESN'T know it all. Shucks. Good luck to the remaining contestants.

One of the two 'plus size' contestants in the current season of America's Next Top Model, Diana Zalewski, has just been eliminated from the contest. Apparently Diana failed to impress judges and was sent home because according to them she lacked the "fire and passion" required to be successful in the modeling industry.BuddyTV.com have some excellent commentary on this elimination, as well as the whole issue with American's Next Top Model wanting to include more 'plus size' models in the contest. Given my background in biology I often wonder where Charlie got her genes. For example, Charlie is in the 98th percentile for length; Emilie and I are not very tall. She is very cute, where as I am certainly no Adonis (for my sake I won't speak for Emilie). It seems, however, that her parents genes are finally shinning through. Charlie took her first bad picture yesterday. Although it may not be easy on they eyes it certainly confirms that she is our child.

I've watched this show a couple of times and I actually liked it, it really shows you how American's sometimes get the fashion point, or the way they can reach the top. This is one of the things that fascinate me in Americans, they are always wanting to be grandiose, to be the number 1 in anything, even when it means to elimate people from their own country, but as long as somebody turns out to be the best, the winner...
