After a 5-game skid, the Orioles thanks to the brilliant pitching of Garrett Olson, Aubrey Huff’s three-run homer in seventh, along with Nick Markakis going 3-for-4 and breaking out a slump with a solo homer in the sixth, Baltimore beat the New York Yankees, 6-1. The woeful New York bullpen opened the game for Baltimore and wasted a great effort by youngster Darrell Rasner. The story of the game

Photo Gallery: New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles; April 19th, 2008If you have not had a chance to go out and see the Orioles -- do so. I went out the Yard last night and it was a good night to be a fan.So we are only into the first weeks of the season, and it would be silly to assume that we'll finish as winners and start printing out playoff tickets; however, the Orioles are playing inspired baseball and this is a team to rally around.Daniel Cabrera has a solid game, as he went six innings and gave up two runs; plus, Melvin Mora and Jay Payton each drove in a pair of runs in a seven-run, sixth inning as well, Nick Markakis and Luke Scott added two hits and an RBI apiece for Baltimore to trash the Yankees, 8-2.Yankee starter, Phil Hughes was solid for five innings, and then just fell
A few months ago, I detailed the new Popemobile , an open-top Mercedes G Class painted Vatican White. The new vehicle is used for the Pope’s official Wednesday public appearances at the Vatican.
The Popemobile is steeped in historical tradition. In ancient times, popes were carried on mobile thrones. Since the advent of motor vehicles, it [...]
I know I’ve said this on Bleacher Report before, but it bears repeating: I love Hank Steinbrenner.Hank Steinbrenner is the best thing to happened to baseball since the designated hitter (purists be damned!).Since he took over for the late George Steinbrenner (he is dead, right?), it’s been entertaining Hank quote after entertaining Hank quote.Ask Hank about Boston fans booing poor, cheating, drug user Andy Pettitte (or any of the many, many Yankee HGH and steroid users) and he responds with this beauty: "I don't think they would want to be hollering too loud at Andy up in Fenway. They had plenty of players doing this stuff, too. It's just that those players weren't mentioned in the Mitchell Report."An MLB owner implying that the Mitchell Report was incomplete and the drug problem in b
Spring Training - New York Yankees vs. Houston AstrosHere are photos of the Astros/Yankees game in Kissimmee, Florida this afternoon. After driving for a little more than three hours, I'm finally out of the car, an working on some stuff right now.Well, I'll be spending the rest of my time here watching the both Orioles and Nationals battle until Saturday. Right now, I'm at some swanky hotel paying quite a bit of money because I didn't reserve a room online or whatever before coming here. Granted, I am only five minutes from the ballpark, but I paid far more than I wanted.I'll be at the Cardinals vs. Orioles game Tuesday afternoon, and then the Nationals Dodgers game in the evening.Lots of driving, but I'll have more for you all tomorrow night. I'm beat, so I'll talk to you in the morning b
According to ESPN, "Alex Rodriguez has agreed to outlined details of a $275 million deal that will keep him in pinstripes for the next 10 years, and allows him to earn millions more if he sets the career HR mark with N.Y."Well, I would not say I was surprised; however few teams could pay the price tag he wanted, and considering everything, New York is the best place he could have signed with and achieved what he wanted -- money, prestige and fame.He did it all without Scott Boras, who many in sports think of as the "scum of the earth"...A-Rod could build back his status amongst baseball fans, but it took a severe hit with his antics during the World Series and opting out of his contract considering the value of it as is.Those who are Yankee fans could care less about A-Rod, he resigned with the team; however, outside of New York, he's a pariah.New York needed him to only not fill in the new ballpark opening up in 2009, but also hopefully (granted he does not injured) a plethora of off
The New York Yankees and their baseball betting fans went through a long period of confusing wait. After the failure they called 2007 MLB Season, things got mixed up and many heads turned to Joe Torre. In spite of that, Torre was offered a one-year deal to stay with the Yankees for another season. And he turned it down.
After the shock of definitely losing Joe Torre, the search for a new manager began. Well, it wasn’t a huge effort either, since they only interviewed 3 people: Tony Peña, the team’s first base coach, Don Mattingly (bench coach and former hitting instructor) and Joe Girardi. Girardi used to be a bench coach for Joe Torre and then became the head of the Florida Marlins.
All the bets were placing Mattingly as the solid favorite for the job, and then some more shocking news: Joe Girardi has been announced as the new manager for the New York Yankees. Today he will be officially named as manager. Torre’s out, and Girardi comes in. It’s all ‘Joe’ in the end.
We are in to the second day of meetings between the New York Yankees and owner George Steinbrenner, and they still will not say if they are to bring back Joe Torre as manager for a 13th season. Both Steinbrenner and the NYY have said that they hold Torre in the highest regard, which is why they are taking their time to make a decision. The said that they need to spend some time on this issue so that they can do what is best for the baseball teams future.
Reports from Sports Yahoo say that a person that is familiar with these meetings, thinks that a decision could be made sometime Thursday or Friday, but we will have to wait and see how things progress. Joe Torre has a three-year contract with the New York Yankees, which is worth $19.2 million and is set to expire on October 31st.

Sometimes you find readers in the strangest places. How about in the New York Yankees locker room just before a baseball game? That's not something that I, as a longtime baseball fan, would have ever expected to see but Yankee pitcher Matt DeSalvo seems to be as serious about his reading as he is about pitching for the Yanks.Matt DeSalvo sat in silence at his Yankee Stadium locker before his major league debut on Monday, buried in the written word. It is his most comfortable position. In his hands, he held a small book with gilded edges. It was not a scouting report, and it was not a Bible, either. It was Confucius, DeSalvo said later, and the pages were covered with circled passages and notes he had made in the margins.“It’s just what I’m reading right now,” DeSalvo said. “I like to read different philosophies, just anything, the way I see this world. We spend a whole lifetime trying to figure ourselves out. Like I’ll read a book and try to think, what’s this mean to m

For the boys in pinstripe blue, every year brings high expectations from fans, the press and more importantly, George Steinbrenner. The Yankees have won the American League East division nine years in a row, but to most in Yankee nation, the season starts in October. In 2006, the Yankees lost in decisive fashion to the Detroit Tigers and disappoint reigned with all their fans. As a result of the loss, much of the offseason was spent wondering how it happened and to fix the team which seemed to lack chemistry and heart. Since the New York Yankees missed their goal of winning the World Series, changes were abound and came swiftly. First, Randy Johnson, Jaret Wright and Gary Sheffield were traded and bench Lee Mazzilli was fired and replaced by Yankee legend Don Mattingly. Second, 2005 saviors Aaron Small and Shawn Chacon were released from the during the 2006 season along with a litany of other pitchers. However, the Yankee method of operation has been altered & instead of spending bi
