      New Work Area
Here is my new work area! I bought a new desk today to create a more formal area for study/robot/programming/gaming (listed in intended priority...)On the robot-front, I have been playing around with classes in Python to move the code towards object-orientation. This should make elements of my code both reusable and understandable by people other than myself! I have also been playing with Python's

Bill Gates' New Work at Microsoft Will Begin in July 2008
Bill Gates' new work at Microsoft will debut come July 2008. Yes, July is also the month synonymous with the end of Gates' day-to-day role in the company he helped found. On June 15, 2006, Microsoft announced that Gates will enter a two-year transition period at the end of which the Chairman will shift his focus mainly on the global health and education work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Trimming Faux Pas & New Work in Progress
Trimming Faux Pas While I was getting ready for the Potter’s Guild show in April, I made a grave mistake. It’s one that many novice clay people make and apparently one that I make too occasionally when I’m in a hurry. If there’s anything I’ve learned about myself it’s that I can’t rush because [...]

Elizabeth Peyton's Snapshot Romanticism: New Work at GBE (A Review)
"Snapshot romanticism" may seem like an oxymoron, but it was the first phrase that fired in my brain while thinking of Elizabeth Peyton's small paintings and drawings currently on exhibit at Gavin Brown's Enterprise on Greenwich St. Her use of photographic sources, especially the snapshot genre, with its qualities of chance and candid gesture, and her thought-out brush strokes, belying the choices of a careful painter, combine to create intriguing small portraits. They all pack a lot of punch for their size.I remember seeing one of Peyton's portraits in MoMA just after the museum reopened and thinking how well she held her own in a room full of super-sized art. I think a big Andreas Gursky photo was nearby. At the GBE gallery, the paintings and drawings are more in competition with themsel

I’ve chosen a new work motto: You can only do so much.
Sometimes I have to talk to myself in my head. When I’m on the phone with someone who’s raising his voice, demanding to know why he got an e-mail about a problem that turned out not to be a problem, why he’s been burdened for five minutes of his morning double-checking something he’d already done. Or [...]

      New Work
Stoneware Vase, cone 6, 8" h x 4.5" wI've been working on some new pieces the past month, but didn't bring them with me to the sale this past weekend. You see, I'm saving them for when they go on view at the Colorado Potter's Guild when I will be considered for membership to the guild. In addition to the written application, interview, references, etc. My work will be on display along with other candidate's work so that all the members can get a good look at what we're capable of before being voted to stay on the island.Alternate viewI'm quite pleased with these pieces and their organic soft carved shapes. I would like to make more of these forms. After throwing them, I let them set up to an almost leather hard state, after which time, I take a Sure Form to them to get the chiseled effect. I spend a good amount of time sanding them down after they're bone dry to soften the edges. I don't really have a plan beforehand, but let the clay "talk" to me, if you will. Making

Dixon talks about his new work on the Outsiders
More and more is being revealed here at Comicon's Pulse that might satisfy anyone wondering about both Batgirl and Green Arrow: THE PULSE: What is it about the current crop of Outsiders that you hope will attract both new readers and existing fans of any of the characters involved? DIXON: Most of them were part of the original team and are often thought of as unique to the Outsiders. Certainly

      New Work!
"Tiny Treasures II", a cash and carry holiday show at Cactus Gallery!o And here's a small sample of work that I will be showing (and selling!) at "Tiny Treasures II". Two new acrylic paintings on beveled edged, wood panels (measuring about 7" x 9"x1") with a butterly theme. The colors are so very pretty and vibrant! Both have been detailed with pretty satin butterflies and gold and copper nails throughout the vine of thorns. Metallic gold paint was used as well for the "frame" and the vines.o These pictures aren't the best either I might add!The above is titled, "La Mariposa Purpura" (The Purple Butterfly). The above is titled, "La Mariposa Verde" (The Green Butterfly). And this thing is the hanger that I attached at the top of each painting. I think it's much better than the traditional wire or sawtooth hanger that's normally used. Pretty cool stuff!

New Work, More Masks and Happy Thanksgiving!
New Porcelain Vase, wheel thrown and carved, still greenI've been pretty productive in my studio for the past 3-4 weeks in anticipation of the Fancy Tiger Handmade Craft Fair coming up 1 1/2 weeks from now. It's time to stop making work so that I can concentrate on firing and glazing my pieces - even this time frame is pushing it for me. I'm really fond of some of my new wheel thrown work which has a really sensuous organic feel to it and look forward to spending more time in my studio after the show to concentrate on exploring additional shapes and sizes.Clay + Imagination= Art Monday's class masksSince I put my Tuesday's clay class masks on my blog, I promised my Monday class that I'd give them equal billing. I can't say enough good things about the work that all my students are creating! I also think that they're really what's behind my new found energy - a synergistic relationship if you ask me.Meanwhile, I've slowly been going through all the Adobe Go Live Classroom

      New Work Places Sink Dollar
For some strange reasons good data on October nonfarm payrolls which came out today had a very bad impact on dollar's pricing against major currencies. With 1.4524 on EUR/USD greenback fell down to its new historical minimums as with Canadian dollar - USD is now worth only 0.9326 CAD. Monthly nonfarm payrolls is one of the most looked at health barometers for U.S. economy. With a very weak past

New Work for U.S. Backpackers in Australia
Great news for U.S. backpackers looking for work in Australia, via Concierge.com: If you or someone you know is hoping to pick up some casual work while backpacking around Australia, there’s good news: A new agreement between Australia and the U.S. will let Americans do just that. When I backpacked around Oz back in 2001, I ran into hundreds of Brits, Canadians, and Kiwis who were working their way around the continent. Americans who wanted to do the same had to pay more and work less. Now, the same rights that have been granted to British Commonwealth citizens are being extended to us Americans. The visa will be available, starting October 31, to Americans between the ages of 18 and 30. It will allow holders to travel in Australia for up to a year and work for one employer for up to six months. I’ll be over the hill 30 by the time I find my way to Australia, but it’s a step in the right direction.

New Work in Progress - East MacDonnell Ranges
My latest work in progress is of a painting I am doing of the Eastern MacDonnell Ranges, in Central Australia. The Eastern Macs are the range of mountains situated on the eastern (surprise surprise) side of Alice Springs and are less visited but prettier than the more well known Western MacDonnell Ranges. The reference picture was taken very early in the morning near Corroboree Rock and the morning sun cast strong shadows in the valleys of the mountain range, which I hope to portray realistically. I am thinking about adding some people to this painting, a small party or couple of bushwalkers, using photos of my safari party, but I'll have to see how the painting pans out first.

NET.TV - new work by Garrett Lynch
Announcing the release of net.tv an art browser (browser as art work) by Garrett Lynch: http://www.asquare.org/project/net-tv/ --------------------------------------------------------------- Net.tv is a cross between a browser and a streaming media player designed to view the internet as it really is, code or more specifically markup, not a series of web pages designed under a print metaphor. It makes no attempt to interpret the code into an organised layout as do conventional browsers, instead it displays the code as an audio-visual stream of indeterminate length. Why reduce the internet to an audio-visual stream? Simply to provoke thought around our use and consumption of different media, linear push media such as television and non-linear interactive pull media such as websites, which have been converging for sometime now. Net.tv's purpose is to highlight the way we as users continually construct self made narratives when we use the internet through choices based on
