      New wireless broadband licences
The Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) has launched a new competition for wireless licences covering the 26GHz range which would be ideal for broadband backhaul and mobile base station applications. “Fixed access technology in the microwave bands continues to advance and in recognising this ComReg is now making available by competition 17 new licences for 26GHz spectrum to meet the increasing data needs of telecommunications networks,” the chairman of ComReg Mike Byrne said last night. The new licences will allow for the provision of point-to-point and point-to-multipoint fixed links.A reserve price of €350,000 has been placed on each of the national licences and any one applicant can apply for more than six licences. The regulator said that if demand exceeds supply then the licences will be awarded via an auction.“This spectrum is suitable for a number of applications, including broadband backhaul, network connectivity between the network core and access nodes suc

Introducing Kindle™ by Amazon.comThree years ago, we set out to design and build an entirely new class of device—a convenient, portable reading device with the ability to wirelessly download books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. The result is Amazon Kindle. We designed Kindle to provide an exceptional reading experience. Thanks to electronic paper, a revolutionary new display technology, reading Kindle’s screen is as sharp and natural as reading ink on paper—and nothing like the strain and glare of a computer screen. Kindle is also easy on the fingertips. Kindle: Amazon’s New Wireless Reading Device
Kindle: Amazon’s New Wireless Reading Device Could you imagine if you were able to carry all your books in your palm with some kind of gadget that would let you view all your books. That would put Ikea of of business. No more bookshelves, just scroll and you are there. Are we there yet? Well Amazon latest gadget Kindle would like you to think so. You got to buy at least 10 books to get that type of technology which is equivalent to a price tag of three hundred and ninety-nine dollars. The device is almost there but not quite. It’s an ugly bland little thing. The Sony E-reader is slicker and one hundred dollars cheaper. This technology has been around for ages, but never mined to make money for all. I would like to be kind to Kindle, but it just looks like it needs a big upgrade already. If Apple designed this, it would look appealing. It looks a bit like a Commodore Computer. With a price like this, you are better at getting a laptop. I understand the mo

      Monster’s new Wireless Audio Bridge
Wanna get a handy way to stream music from your iPods to the home stereo ? Monster’s new Wireless Audio Bridge will look pretty cool in any modern condo or house with black-and-chrome lines. This transmitter goes for USD99 and a 30-foot range over the normal wireless 2.4GHz channel. While the iPod remotes have gotten closer and closer to replicating the iPod interface, there’s still really no replacement for the original — which is why we’ve seen several products that effectively turn the iPod itself into a remote by beaming music from a dock connector-attached transmitter directly to a base station.(Via The Gadget Blog.)

      New Wireless Wii headphones
Engadget is showing off a new headphone set from Turtle Beach which promises to bring wireless personal audio to your Nintendo Wii. While the headset definitely looks nice it's a bit pricey at $60. Do some looking around and you can find another set of wireless headphones that would probably work just as well. I've had the Logitech Wireless Headphones for awhile now and am more than happy with them. As you can tell they look virtually identical to the Turtle Beach brand and they're from Logitech. There have been reports about the neck band breaking but I've had mine for a few months with no problems. While I don't get the point of using headphones with your gaming console, I guess if you're going to it'd be a lot safer to go wireless when playing on the Wii.  Flailing your arms while you've got a cord wrapped around your neck probably isn't terribly safe...
