People the content of this post leaves serious room for thought.During BET's "Hip Hop vs. America" debate ft. Russell Simmons, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, T.I., Nelly, Master P , and hosted by Cousin Jeff and Toure, a lot of interesting dialogue took place but was anything accomplished? Can we all agree that Hip Hop needs to be RESPECTED?That the Movement isn't dead and shouldn't be destroyed? However i
She is Jo-Ann Armao, the Washington Post editorial board writer who has been penning the strong pieces supporting D.C.'s school voucher program. Because public officials read the Post and because the Post is seen as representing the views of a significant number of local residents then the importance of what she has been writing cannot be overstated.I hope I get the opportunity to meet her one day

Fort Mill School District Superintendent Keith Callicut wrote an update recently in the Fort Mill Times. Here is a summary of his school growth update.
Besides the two new Fort Mill School District elementary schools planned to open in the fall of 2009, the district is busy working on a plan to spend the money raised [...]
As most of my readers already know by now, I have three kids. The oldest child has moved six times, the other two kids have moved four times. The older kids have attended 5 different schools and my youngest daughter, six. In all this time they have had no problems adjusting to their new homes or their new schools although of course they, like all kids, had their fears. "What if nobody lik
The number of students of immigrant origin is growing at a fast rate in schools located in suburban areas of Helsinki. Next autumn, 50 out of 60 pupils starting the seventh grade at the Mylllypuro comprehensive schools will speak a language other than Finnish as their mother-tongue. There has not been an even distribution of [...]

Pinellas school officials on Tuesday released maps showing the “close-to-home” school zones for the district’s new student assignment plan. The maps show middle and high school zones. Students entering sixth and ninth grade in August who are not in a...
HOLLYWOOD – Silver Screen Indie Queen here with some post-St. Patty’s Day film buzz. What better way to start a column than with the Irish? There’s an industry list as long as my arm of actors with Irish American blood including James Cagney, John Cusack and Joan Cusack, Spencer Tracy and even Lindsay Lohan. As for the list of those Irish born and bred, though, now that’s a different story.
The mission of Rachel Faith – the Hollywood-based Silver Screen Indie Queen for HollywoodChicago.com – is to help avoid the “beige” film experience by providing easily accessible information on indie film, film festival favorites and must-see Hollywood classics. At the end of the day, it’s all about turning people onto new and different films using the Indie Queen’s film geekdom fo

Ben peered around his mum’s leg, at the gleaming doors in front of him. He could hear the soft ‘shhh’ as they slid gracefully open and shut, as bigger children scurried in and out. He could see their faces reflected in the clear glass as they hovered forward towards the doors. Although they smiled, he [...]
TheFunded.com has been a big deal in the startup world. It allows entrepreneurs to write about their experiences meeting with venture capitalist while staying anonymous. TheFunded.com has become such a big deal because no one knew who was behind it. That and most of the reviews were negative, aggravating named VCs. The suspense even reached outside the blogosphere with magazines such as Inc. wondering “Who’s behind TheFunded.com?“.
Last night at an event at Stanford, Aedo Ressi announced he is the founder of TheFunded.com. This is a classic PR mystery move, I couldn’t but see it as a linkbait move as well. Ressi’s site received as much publicity for its unknown founder as it did for its function, reviewing venture firms. Since the story of who ran TheFunded.com has quieted down in past months, Ressi comes out and sets the startup/tech blogs pumping out articles again (like so).
While we see traditional linkbait as writing an article that grabs ones atten

Chip starts his first day at the new school today. He woke up crying he did not want to go there. So, not a good start. I am crossing my fingers, toes and whatever else there is to cross. I am stressed (duh). Don't think there will be much blogging done today.

24.07.07 - By Vanessa McConnell: What good is a fight in Nevada without a showdown? The trash talking, threats, promises and defeats. Last weeks Bernard Hopkins vs. Winky Wright, what I like to call the Old School vs. New School at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas was nothing short of that. It was a little disappointing to hear that it was all for a pay hype. Bernard Hopkins put on a comical display of man eating open hand when he pushed Wright back with an open hand to the face, more…
Look for a larger story in Sunday's Courier-Journal, but it looks like the firing squad has started to form a circle.I'm going to chat through today's story by Antoinette Konz of the Courier-Journal: My comments in red italics.2 push for new school chiefBoard's credibility hurt, they contend At least two state school board members are pushing to quickly name a new interim education commissioner, saying the failed search for an education chief has damaged the board's credibility.True...but what matters now is that the board responds effectively - and apolitically.State board member Doug Hubbard of Bardstown acknowledged yesterday that he sought an emergency meeting for tonight to possibly name an interim commissioner. But the attempt failed because there wasn't enough time to notify the public as required by Kentucky's open meetings law....[Y]esterday, Hubbard said the board needs to take swift action to counter Friday's sudden resignation of Barbara Erwin as incoming education
There's nothing like a few weeks to get ready to open a new school. Hillsborough has just announced plans to open an elementary school at the Museum of Science and Industry in August.
The district wants the classrooms, most recently used by the Terrace Community Charter School, to relieve crowding at Shaw Elementary. The new school would serve about 300 students, about one-third the size of a typical elementary school in Hillsborough. The School Board is being asked to set the boundaries Tuesday night. You can check them out here: Download map.
District officials are hastily planning a community meeting Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the Shaw cafeteria. Shaw had been projected to start the new school year with almost 1,100 students, which was hardly ideal for a high poverty school.
"We saw the opportunity," said Bill Person, who oversees student assignment in Hillsborough, noting that MOSI will provide all sorts of enrichment possibilities. "It looks like a great facility."
I have mentioned in the past one of my fears (albeit a small one, it's still a fear) of moving, is that son struggles in school due to his almost 100% kinesthetic learning style so audio and visual learning (as in a traditional school setting) comes harder for him. Moving again means starting in a new school system and having to start from scratch on learning the best way to 're-teach' him at
Washington Post reporters have three stories today concerning changes in leadership at DCPS. First, David Nakamura and Nikita Stewart talk about how mad the politicians are that Mayor Fenty kept his choice a secret from them. Next, Dion Haynes has some background on Michelle Rhee and her organization The New Teacher Project. Last, but not least, Theola Labbe addresses the unfinished (perhaps never really started) work of fired Superintendent Janey (he is not returning any telephone calls). The best line of all of these stories comes from none other than former Mayor Barry who commented:Fenty talks to "everybody except council members."Perfect. I would ask why in the world Mr. Fenty would want to speak to those who either got public education in the nation's capital into this mess or went to work everyday not doing anything about it? These people got what they deserved, especially Mr. Barry, who should be in prison now not because of a DUI or failure to pay his taxes but because he pers
today was my first day of teaching at my new school. there are some very big differences between the two. at some point early in the day i wondered what my life would have been like for the last six months had i originally been assigned to this school. i'm still not in a position to really know that, nor will i ever be, it's still interesting to note the many variances (albeit sometimes small) between the two schools.first. as soon as i arrived my co-teacher met me at the gate. she had some things that she needed to tell me, and i think that she was there because it was her 'day' to stand guard in the morning (there are always teachers greeting the students as they arrive in the morning)... but it was still nice to have a familiar face first thing.second. the principal invited me for a morning coffee. the p-man at my other school never even says hello to me - even if i say it to him. the new P has actually made a weekly coffee date with me... thursdays at 3:30. he also invited me t
My wife is an elementary school teacher in the Issaquah school district. Since the moment I started creating this blog I have been under an immense amount of pressure to give the Eastside educational institutions props... so I've done just that. Check out the new "school info" link on the right, and be sure to click through to the higher education page. We are blessed to have such great schools in the area. Voters in the area support local bonds and levies, the schools have relatively low class sizes, and they stay current with technological advances in education. (my wife totally digs her "smart board"... a giant chalkboard meets plasma screen technology).
I hope the links provide you with information helpful to you and your relocation (if thats the case). Let me know if you can't find something you might find helpful... after all this is a work in progress!
My wife has pledged a commitment to write an in depth article about the state of the Eastside schools... so STAY TUNE
哥哥 is start his new school term tomorrow. He will be in K1. As usual he thought he is switching back to Kinderland Kindergarten. I told him he only goes there for Holiday Activities. He will still go to Hope Kindergarten. He wasn't that happy. Sulked for a while.I had a very tiring December School Holidays. When school starts. It will be more tiring. Sending 哥哥 to school with 妹妹 in tow. Go marketing and rush home to make lunch. Then fetch 哥哥 from school with 妹妹 again. Let them eat, play, bath and try to get them to sleep before rushing to make dinner. Sigh! Back to my robotic SAHM lifestyle. My only hope is that it will not rain like it did last month.
