I’ve been using a whiteboard to schedule my life for about 7 years. I thought I’d share. Exciting isn’t it! I’m starting to add things like “find movers,” “get travel insurance,” and “send AirTrek itineraries.” Lately, it’s been ideal for tracking people who are buying or picking up freecycled stuff. Speaking of material possessions, last night I literally sold my computer desk from under my computer, sold my snowboarding gear, and gave away 5 guided meditation tapes. Each item that leaves my apartment has me feeling a little lighter. The extra cash is nice too. The last two big items are a set of curtains, and a night table. Then the rest is going to my parents or storage. I have 3 full days of work left before I wrap up my leadership training, and turn in my resignation. Living la vida loca! There was a time that I saw our neighbor, Tata where my step mom entrusted our house in Carrascal that doing malicious things with my father. Well, it’s over. After six years Leah and I have decided to call it quits. I have been spending a lot of time in my new cage, even though the Tall One usually keeps the door open for me when she's in the room. Ahhhh.... Song of the week time. I had a tough time selecting this one. It was a long arduous week and to be terribly honest, I didn't have the opportunity to listen to a lot of music. When Friday comes around it nice to open the Weekend Gate a play a song that either celebrates the coming of the weekend or commemorates the week of work that had recently ended. Today's track does both. I have strong feelings for Art Alexakis' band Everclear. Alexakis (at center) with band mates - EverclearI picked up their mega-poppy Heartspark Dollar sign album before everyone I knew and I had a summer or two in which those songs played a prominent role. "Santa Monica" was one of the first songs I ever learned on guitar. The band was attainable - the songs were about life and about people. The International Space Station is set to test a new life support system that concentrates on closing the waste-water cycle on spaceships. The name of the project is Environmental Control and Life Support Systems–better known by its acronym ECLSS (pronounced”EE-cliss”). ECLSS uses a purification process called vapor compression distillation: urine is boiled until the water in it turns to steam. The system is designed to produce potable water “meeting purity standards better than most municipal water systems on the ground.” ECLSS can only recover about 93% of waste water that humans sweat and urinate away, so an even better system that can achieve 100% efficiency is needed for a Mars or other space missions to be completely self contained. Without sci-fi matter replicators, even waste water is a precious resource when you’re millions of kilometers away from a water supply.
