      Launching my new home-based business.
Rember this?Last August I posted a "Name that business" contest to help generate ideas for the home-based business that I want to start. I even gave away a prize, despite the fact that I never did select a business name.Well, I've chosen a business name and I've secured a URL and found a web hosting site. Now all I need is a blog design done. I'm hoping to use Susie at Bluebird Blog Designs but I haven't heard back from her yet and I'm not sure how long I can wait. Can anyone recommend other web designers out there? I need to find someone affordable. I can't afford the $300+ prices that some charge. So, what is my business name, you ask? Well, I'm about to tell all. I wish I had a cute button to show you for my new name, but I can't seem to get creative enough to design one myself. I know f

New Home Sales Plunge To Lowest In 17yrs
New-Home Sales in U.S. Plunge More Than Forecast, the Lowest in 17yrs by Bloomberg - snip:Purchases of new homes in the U.S. plunged more than forecast in March to the lowest level in almost 17 years as stricter loan rules and falling prices caused buyers to hold off. Sales dropped 8.5 percent to an annual pace of 526,000, the fewest since October 1991, from a 575,000 rate the prior month, the Commerce Department said today in Washington. The median sales price slumped 13.3 percent from the same time last year, the most in almost four decades. A jump in subprime mortgage defaults and record foreclosures have worsened the real-estate slump and led banks to limit lending. The threat of a prolonged recession is growing as lower home values constrain consumer spending and persistent declines

New Home Sales : How The Newspaper Headlines Mislead You

From the Baltimore Sun (and others): New-home sales lowest since 19918.5% March decline exceeds forecasts; prices also tumble As always, there's more to the story than the headline.  The Census Bureau reported a 8.5 percent decline in New Home Sales last month, but in the "fine print" of the report, the Census Bureau cites a margin of error of 16.1 percent.  By including a margin of error, the Census Bureau is acknowledging that the "headline number" is not precise and that the actual change in New Home Sales data lies somewhere between the values -24.6% and +7.6%. Notice that the range of possible reading includes positive numbers.  This means that

      New Home Sales: March 2008

Tradtionally, these seats are the first to be sold, or are given to VIPs.So, that being said...why are they empty?Well, one reason could be that they cost $300 a pop. Collateral damage from unfinished new home projects
When I was recently asked by the blog L.A. Land to defend the temporary change in the tax law to allow builders to recapture taxes paid in the boom years to help them weather the bust, I did so partly to gauge the sentiments of the blog's readers. The results? A big PR headache for builders, as the mail ran 40:1 against any type of bailout. But one of the reasons I defended the 'bailout' was because when a builder goes bust, it's not just the executives and employees who are punished -- it's also the vast army of subs and suppliers, not to mention homebuyers who were buying into what they thought would be a new -- and finished -- community. While the anti-bailout folks would casually dismiss this as Rumsfeldian 'collateral damage,' I think it's a bit more complicated than people either r

The data, which will be available on the Urban Redevelopment Authority's (URA) website tomorrow, will show the total number of new homes launched and sold in the month. It will also reveal the lowest, median and highest prices of the units sold in each project for March. WHY IT MATTERS Experts expect the March figures to affirm the trend of new home sales stalling in recent months as the housing market comes almost to a standstill. February's figures showed that only 185 new homes were sold in that month - the lowest level since this monthly data was made public last June. These weak sales were likely to have conti

Why Do Investors Care? This provides a gauge of not only the demand for housing, but the economic momentum. People have to be feeling pretty comfortable and confident in their own financial position to buy a house. Furthermore, this narrow piece of data has a powerful multiplier effect through the economy, and therefore across the markets and your investments. Helping Your Bird Adjusting In A New Home
Moving to a new home can be stressful for a bird, especially if the bird is a hand fed baby. Luckily, if you spend some time setting everything up properly, it isn't too hard to help your bird make the adjustment to a new home. The first thing you should do for your new bird is to place his cage in an area that does not have too much traffic and confusion. However, although you don't want him to feel like he is in the middle of everything, you also don't want to put him in an unused room where he will be neglected. Pick a spot where he can interact with you, but won't be constantly startled by loud noises and sudden movements. If you already have another bird, you should quarantine the new arrival for 30 days. This way, if your new bird has an infectious disease, your original bird has a better chance of not catching the disease. To quarantine your bird, you should place him on another floor of the house and keep his food and water dishes separate from your original bird's dishes.

A Closer Look at New Home Sales: October 2007
As I had noted before, in 2004 new home sales exhibited an interesting phenomena whereby the distribution of home sales, grouped by several nominal price ranges, effectively flipped from what one might conclude to be logical and from the historical norm.Prior to 2004, in general, the least expensive new homes sold the most numbers of units while the most expensive new homes sold the least numbers of units. Not a very surprising result as one might easily conclude that the majority of new home buyers cannot, in general, afford the most expensive homes. After 2004 though, the scenario exactly flipped in that the most expensive new homes easily outsold the least expensive homes. Now, this could either be explained by the inflating of home prices during the boom, easy availability of bloated loans, home buying patterns, or a little bit of all of these events but no matter what the cause, it appears that the scenario is now in the process of flipping yet again.Since the peak in 2005 new home s

Charleston SC New Home Builder Buyer Incentives
By: Darcy CreaturoBuying a New Construction home can still get you a good deal. Recently I had a sale where the buyer I was representing got a check for $2,000 back at closing. They brought no money to the table for a down payment (the builder paid their down payment), they brought no money for closing and they also got 2,000 worth of custom paint on their new home. The reason they got such a great deal is because of builder incentives that the Builder, Lennar Homes, was offering at the time.I have seen Builders offer free Plasma TV’s, free Bonus room, Screen Porches, 20,000 in design center upgrades. Builders will even offer to buy down you mortgage rate if you use their preferred lender. All of these examples are incentives the builders offer to help get their homes to sell. Ryland, DR

Four Truths About Buying a New Home No One Tells You
      1. Bob Vila is not building your home. You've seen those TV shows like "This Old House," where Bob, Norm or Steve and a crew of careful craftsmen lovingly restore a home. The workers ruminate endlessly about the correct way to install this door or that siding. Many home buyers think they are getting this level of care when they build or buy a new home. And why not? It's not like builders are giving away these homes. Sorry, folks, this type of skilled building is seen only on television. Real life means building crews who are more like Larry, Curly, and Moe-bumbling idiots who couldn't tell their butt from a two-by-four. The only thing these guys ruminate on endlessly is which bar they'll hit at quitting time. One home buyer we interviewed said she was shocked at the level of workmanship on her $140,000 semi-custom home. Sloppy carpentry, lousy cabinet installation, incompetent roofers -- the buyer got the full treatment. "You think you're getting quality craftsmen," she to
