New Data Shows Rimonabant Benefited Patients With Type 2 Diabetes By Improving Blood Sugar Control, Reducing Weight
Sanofi-aventis announced today that new data on rimonabant, its first-in-class cannabinoid type 1 (CB1) receptor blocker, showed that patients with type 2 diabetes not currently treated with anti-diabetic medications experienced significant improvements in blood sugar control and weight as well as other risk factors such as HDL-cholesterol (good cholesterol) and triglycerides when compared to placebo. The study, called SERENADE, was presented today at the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) World Diabetes Congress in Cape Town, South Africa. SERENADE is the second study demonstrating that rimonabant significantly improved blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. In the SERENADE study, treatment-naive type 2 diabetes patients receiving rimonabant 20mg per day for a duration of six months significantly lowered their HbA1c levels by 0.8% from a baseline value of 7.9 as compared to a reduction of 0.3% in the placebo group (p=0.002). In addition, patients with an

New Data on my Tinnitus/Noise Hypersensitivity and Weather Theory
I have an interesting observation on my ear and weather theory.Yesterday while I had tremendous hypersensitivity to noise, the barometric pressure in our area was high at 1023. (Don't ask me what that number means; I just know it is high.) I continued to have it this morning. I checked the current barometric pressure map for the U.S. and the pressure was the same.Tonight I felt my plugged ears starting to drain, which is unusual. That's always such a sweet relief because when that happens my ear pressure releases some and I can hear better. When I realized we are slated for storms tomorrow evening I wondered what the barometric pressure read.Sure enough, as I suspected, our current barometric pressure is 1016. And I wonder if it dropped quickly, because my ears rarely drain like this. (Which is too bad.)It looks like my theory of tinnitus and noise hypersensitivity being connected to the weather and barometric pressure might be true. If so, I might look into what kind of hand-held de

Technology - New Data Capturing / Input Method with Webcam
The guys at Microsoft Podtech Research is working on software based on topological depth technology that lets you use your hands as a computer mouse. This could further enhance the use of webcam, other than for socializing and image capturing. I see alot of potential here, with this cool technology, don't you think? Other than that, there's also applications that are currently available
