Well, it is official. Woke this morning and what do I see, Netscape.com is gone! Disappeared, gone, not there, empty. I was really shocked; I mean Netscape is one of the best marketing tools that I have been using for a long time. It is also one of the best market research tools since you can monitor other people and see what is in and what is out.
Personally I don’t like when big things like Netscape change their identity. Oh, by the way Netscape is now redirected to netscape.aol.com and it is a portal, not a social media site. Propeller.com is the Netscape’s backup or new brand I guess. Will it bring something new other than the domain name? I don’t thinks so but the time will tell….
The battle of the browsers is still on, with new kids on the block including huge names like "APPLE" the war seems to be more interesting in near future. Apple's Safari was always a MAC browser but recently it was launched for windows, I was stunned by looks. My personal favorite remains Mozila Firefox though, even if Internet Explorer 7 fights heavily. Back in February we put up a post about Netscape releasing a new browser, well that time has finally come. The new browser “Netscape Navigator 9″ is based off the Firefox core with all new features introduced by Netscape themselves.
A large majority of Navigator’s new features will involve integration for the Netscape.com news and social networking site, a few of the important new features are listed below:
1) Visual Refresh - A new skin/theme for the browser
2) URL Correction - The broswer will automatically correct URL typos.
3) In-browser voting - Easily vote for stories and news on Netscape.com
4) Extension Compatibility - Use Firefox 2.0 extensions with Navigator.
5) Tab History - Each new tab will have the history of the source tab for seamless browsing.

El navigator de Netscape ha resucitado de nuevo en este año con la versión 9 beta 1.
Este navegador viene con nuevas funciones incorporadas como noticias en linea, corrección del URL, además de dejar a los usuarios (junto con AOL) de votar sobre historias y dejar comentarios.
Además esta versión de Navigator 9 es capaz de trabajar con cualquier extensión compatible de Firefox 2.

En Netscape Blog han puesto para su descarga el tema visual Netstripe para Firefox, el tema visual por defecto de Netscape 9, que por cierto estará basado en Firefox 2.0. Después de la petición por parte de los usuarios deNetscape están rediseñando su web de My.Netscape y con ella han añadido el OpenID, de hecho están en versión Beta. Una de las actualizaciones de la página es el permitir que los usuarios con cuentas de AOL poder iniciar la sesión y mirar sus cuentas de correo Netscape/AOL así mismo han anunciado su papel como abastecedor de OpenID, adoptandose a los estilos de la web referente con esta tecnología. Este proyecto se pondrá en marcha el 26 de Marzo de este año. Netscape no sólo apoyará la firma dentro con su nombre actual de la pantalla de AOL, sino que también tendrán el OpenID como manera de tener acceso a Netscape.com y a My.Netscape.

Netscape is about a release a new version of their browser, the teaser image on the left is from the Netscape Blog. The new browser, which is updated and maintained by AOL since 2005 is expected for initial release in the next few months.
Some of the features include standardized support for newsfeeds as well a direct integration with Netscape’s social networking side Netscape.com which is most closely compared to Digg.com. Many extensions for their social networking site will be directly integrated into their browser.
The new browser is going to be designed and built around the Mozilla Firefox code with compatbility for Firefox extensions as well. For more information and possibly future screenshots, view the Netscape Blog here.
