Anticipating My Baseball Tryout Had Me Nervous All Day The winter thaw was in full bloom. All I hoped for about from the fall of 1963 to the winter of 1964 was playing baseball. Weequahic High School's baseball season started when it was still pretty cold. Sometime around March 15, 1964 could not have arrived snappy enough. Even if tryouts started outside in the snow, I would have been there. But they started in the gym, because it was too cold for outside baseball. Hey that makes sense. I recall walking through the corridors of school on that first day of tryouts in a baseball bemusement. I was like a baseball zombie. What would the coach be looking for? do. Would I hit? How would I look? Would I trip over my uniform? Hello. I did not want to embarrass myself. After school was where the

Microsoft would have you think that, no, there's much more to it than that. What really matters, they say, is you, the gamer. And so it went in the run up and run down of yesterday's NPD "big reveal" -- Nintendo won out handily with both the DS and Wii, while Microsoft pulled out all the stops, including a call for leniency due to hardware shortages they contend caused the Xbox 360 to fall roughly 16,000 units behind rival PS3 for the second time in as many months. So it's a simple question then: Are you not entertained? One Microsoft rep who wrote the Sports Legends tip line

There are occasions when you might want a little extra privacy. In hotels, offices or maybe student accommodations. At the same time, door locks are not always up to the standard you might want them to be. The How Sar lock has been made to address this problem and to offer a little more safety to those who want it. It consists of two parts. The flat one is placed by the recess where the door latch goes and it will sit between the door and the sill when the door is closed. By inserting the crescent-shaped part you lock the latch in its position and the door cannot be opened. To unlock, you simply remove the crescent part.

Reports back from Wife is that the doctor has confirmed the diagnosis and is now prescribing penicillin to fight the good fight. This I will admit is making me a touch nervous due to my own allergy to penicillin and the fear (irrational as it probably is) that this allergy has been passed on. I have made Wife promise not to give her the first dose for a couple of hours by which time I will be home myself and that will make all the difference. Well possibly…. Actually I am not exactly sure what difference it will make at all. I have no medical experience, no first aid knowledge at all and wouldn’t even know what to look for in way of a reaction to the drugs. I think it is just the irrational belief that by being there I ensure that all will be good with the world and my kids will be safe. Obviously this is completely wrong and if anything my own

How Can I Tell If My Cat Is Nervous?
It is fairly easy to judge whether or not your cat is nervous. A nervous cat will disappear upstairs to a known bolt hole, such as underneath a bed or in a secluded cupboard, as soon as a visitor enters its owner’s home. Healthy cats are naturally inquisitive and would normally want to mark or brush up against a newcomer to the home to express their possessiveness. A cat that is anxious will not interact with visitors (or sometimes, even its owner) in the way a confident companion pet would in this respect.

Daisy's nervous breakdown
My dog is neurotic. Yeah, yeah, a friend recently told me all dogs are neurotic, so Daisy is not unique.I think my house is spurring Daisy into a full blown nervous breakdown.I met Daisy about three years ago when I was living in Michigan, depressed and mid-life crisis-ing because I had graduated from a doctoral program, broken up with a guy who I thought I would marry but fortunately figured out he was psycho, and moved to a small town in the Midwest. I needed a friend, and I found Daisy. When I first met her, Daisy was about 4 months old. She was named by the folks at the animal shelter "Ashleigh" which I found repulsive and did not fit her rambunctious personality. When she came to the house and ran around the back yard, she ate a daisy -- the name stuck.Daisy and I lived peacefully in Michigan; we survived the insane 8 year old who lived next door, a burglar who didn't steal anything but seemingly enjoyed walking around my house in the middle of the night, and the beginning and

Nervous, confused, what to do!?
It’s a big step, but it probably doesn’t seem like one to anyone else. For us it is though. For years we have kept silent, struggled to present ourselves as one. Both in public and online. We feel as if we allow those who tormented us to win by continuing to keep it so secret, yet at the same time we’re just not ready for announcing it on our original blog and site. Friends and family (safe family) read that other blog, I just don’t know if it’d be right to merge this and that set of blogs together without speaking to them ahead of time to tell them in person. Seriously can you imagine, reading a friend’s blog to find out something like this? Read a week’s entries, talk about gardening, pets, how annoying their husband can be at times (heh), then “Oh, yeah, we kept it secret.. but here’s some info about DID which is what we deal with”, and a little about whatever crafty happenings have been going on. That just seems.. ru

Yeah, I got proof that I applied for a new passport (my old one had my maiden name on it) and thank GOODNESS the government eased up on the passport thing for a few months here. I guess too many people had plans ruined because of all the backlog that the new passport requirement has caused, and there was a huge uproar. I applied for mine in early April. So now I'll bring every document I need and I'll probably be physically searched. Let's all pray that he's cute. So, beyond all that, I am flying. I'm a little scared about that as well. I've been on a plane only a handful of times in my life, and I HAVE flown twice by myself to meet my hubby, but this time it's ALL me. I'm going to a different country. New airports. A new hotel. Who in the hell finds frogs croaking a comforting sound? I mean, sure if you had to grow up in the bayou or country where they never shut up then you have two choices- get use to them or go insane. After awhile I'm sure you don't even notice they are there but for the rest of us this is not a comforting nature sound! WWE: steroids, premature death, and women in dental floss and tupperware (Steroid Nation) Yesterday Vince McMahon and his wrestling circus announced some kind of wrestle mania in Orlando at the Citrus Bowl. During the press conference, a question came up about the recent anabolic/steroid news about pro wrestlers. Greg Gumbel, sadly, was the voice of reason (Randball) Just a note of complete

Nervous Life With Males
When you give birth to your third boy and know that you are done having children and will be surrounded by swaggering penises for the foreseeable future, you can make certain general assumptions. Trucks, not tiaras. Blue, not pink. Mud, not icing. Scribble-scrabble, not coloring within the lines. Fart jokes. Booger jokes. Butt jokes. Barf jokes. As the babies get older, you find out that your bed is primarily a receptacle for boyish pranks. You never get in without cautiously sweeping a hand under the sheets to see what might be under there: a plastic spider, a rubber chicken, a greasy corncob, or a prickly pine cone (this after a showing of The Sound Of Music). A good mother then finishes her nightly toilette, makes sure her nightclothes completely cover her underwear* and slides into bed. After a moment (during which there will be excited whispers from the hall) she must emit a series of piercing screams and spring from the bed, while her boys run to her, shrieking with gle

Nervous breakdown
Have you ever witnessed or experienced a nervous breakdown? It's an understandably frightening, and largely misunderstood, mental phenomenon. And the affect on family members as well as on the sufferer can often be devastating. The following (in red print below) is a beautifully written testament by Lisa Harlow, aged 23, who seventy-eight hours after her first mental breakdown sat in her hospital bed and wrote vigorously in her personal journal about her experience. Lisa subsequently handed the notes to our staff and gave permission for the notes to eventually be published in a book by yours truly. Here's a sample of Lisa's notes: I've never had a mental breakdown until now. I never really thought it was possible to have one. I thought it was like one of those things people say to excuse themselves from responsibility. I was up late most nights, and I drank a lot of coffee. I have a thesis and other projects due. To even look at them makes me want to throw up, honestly. My conc

This Bull Is Getting Really Nervous.
This bull is getting really nervous after looking at today's Investor's Intelligence Poll where bears dropped down to 21.3% and the Bull/Bear Ratio increased to 2.8. To be sure, higher readings have failed to stop bull markets in the past, such as 2003 when the Bull/Bear Ratio spiked to 3.5 and the bull market just kept on chugging after some sideways chop. But, that is where one must look to the

"Nervous Breakdown"?
This morning we discussed Paris Hilton's release from jail to house arrest for "medical" reasons. There has been a report that the concern was a "potential for a nervous breakdown". Nervous breakdown is not a real psychiatric diagnosis, not a DSM diagnosis. It is 1950's phrasing to express anything from serious depression to psychosis to anxiety problems. I think it is important for people to understand that a professional needs to evaluate someone to make a psychiatric diagnosis and that being very upset and stressed does not qualify. Psychiatry, like every other medical field, needs to be applied accurately and rigorously with scientific understanding as its basis. Psychiatric illness is real and can be devastating; it needs to be recognized and treated appropriately. The reason for Paris Hilton's release is still unknown, but should it turn out to be for mental health concerns I would be concerned about a misuse of the system. Medical and psychiatric care i

Thrift store find, Bernina 817? posted by nervous_system
Hi, I just picked up a Bernina 817 at a thrift store for $25. Can anyone tell me anything about the machine? What type of feet it takes, needles, etc? I don't have it at home yet since I rode my bike to the store and did not have anyway to carry it home. I suppose I should take it to be serviced. How much should I expect servicing to cost? Thanks for your help everyone!
