On Saturday morning, I learned of a new organization in Charlotte called "Neighbors For a Safer Charlotte."
One of the organization's founders is a mother of three young children who was attacked by a man outside a YMCA last December. This weekend we went to look at the progress on our house being built in Inspirada. Although the outside didn't look much different compared to last week, they made significant progress on the interior, hanging up drywall throughout. So things are moving along great. We should have our drywall inspection meeting with the construction manager soon.While visiting the house and neighborhood, we noticed another young couple looking at a house a couple doors down. It turns out they were our new neighbors. They were very nice. And normal. And, better yet, they have a daughter that's just a few months younger than Zane. We were hoping for some neighbors with kids for Zane to play with, so now we know of at least one. Hopefully there will be many more. If I learned anything at all from the meltdown of the mortgage industry since August, it’s that your credit scores are critical.
Marissa and Randy first contacted me back in August. We determined that they’d get much better rates and terms on their mortgage if we could get their scores up even just a little. Well, they did some rebalancing of the credit cards, scraped up a little more down payment, and ended up saving about 300 a month on the same home they were in love with from the start.

I’ve been visiting ExtremePumpkins.com off and on for a few years. Tom Nardone takes the art of pumpkin carving, simplifies it, adds power tools, and a lot of thinking outside of the box and really does some wonderful work on pumpkins. He knows a bit of danger = fun. You’ve probably seen his work too in one of those emails that gets forwarded all over the place that just clog your inbox. It probably had the subject line of “Check out these pumpkins” or “These are really cool pumpkins” or something along those lines. If you’ve seen pictures of any crazy or insanely carved pumpkins, you’ve seen this guy’s work.
He also knows that using stencils and pumpkin carving kits are for sissys. I know that not everyone is an artist, but you don’t have to be to carve a cool pumpkin. Stencils, while neat, do not yield a unique pumpkin.

I thought it would make a nice headline considering good old Minnesota, the very BLUE state of Minnesota is holding the 2008 Republican national convention. The news media likes to say it is being held in Minneapolis or Minneapolis/St. Paul, but it is being held at the Xcel Energy Center in the Heart of St. Paul. For the record there is no such city as Minneapolis/St. Paul, the term was created by the news media. Part of the reason I have this blog is so I can educate the general public and help put St. Paul on the map.

Indonesia on Sunday assured its neighbors that it has no intention of attacking any country, saying its defense forces — running on obsolete equipment — "just cannot afford it economically." The couple’s close friends Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have just bought a luxurious £18 million mansion just down the road from the new Beckingham Palace in Beverly Hills.
The 1.3 acre property was not even on the market, but couldn’t refuse Tom Cruise’s impressive offer.
The Cruise’s trumped the Beckham’s in terms of price: Posh and Beck’s paid £11 million for their sprawling villa, which they signed the deal on last week.

Before moving to Fairfield, I lived on a cul-de-sac with twelve other homes on Bainbridge Island. I lived on that street for just over three years and can only tell you the names of five of my neighbors. First, it regulated campaign finance. This was supposed to prevent corruption. It didn’t. It merely made incumbents more secure by making it harder for challengers to raise the funds needed to compete with them.

I purchased property in Maryland. The day I moved into my new place a single female– who had also just moved in, befriended me. We did the usual things girlfriends did– shopping, movies, night clubbing. She was white. When my father died she was really a great friend to have and kept me busy on the weekends when I was not working.
She cut my hair once and gave me Paul Mitchell’s Freeze On. I was not happy with the cut and could not figure out why my hair seemed to be unusually damaged.
