Plumped Paris: Did Hilton Mess With the Needle?
Despite her bountiful bank balance and Beverly Hills existence, Paris Hilton has remained a natural beauty and refused to succumb to the lure of scalpels, needles and knives … Or has she? Pop Tarts caught up with the hotel heiress just a couple of weeks ago in Sydney and her lips were looking well — particularly plumped. “It [...]

But still we are far and never close... Enchanted, I may have to describe it... A few words from you, keep passing over that ethereal line straightway to m

The Commercial Real Estate Blog, Needle in a Haystack.
Blogging has been the avant garde in real estate for a couple of years, to the point where there isn’t an agent that hasn’t at least heard of the phenomena. Inman dedicates two days to it, Realtor.com is on the bandwagon, and all the Big Box agencies have now been forced to consider it. One irony however, is that a liberal estimation of the percentage of real estate agents that actually call t

Guy Forsyth Band - Needle Gun (1995)
Here it is: Guy Forsyth knows how to provide a damn good time by way of gutbucket blues playing. He plays a mean slide guitar himself, and backs that up with the odd burst of dirty blues harp playing, and he has a voice that's a step and a half from Tom Waits, so the vocals have lots of character. The 14 songs on the album are played full force, and the band is as tight as can be -- the energy

"Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?" "I tell you the truth," Jesus said, "whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me…." A Bullet For The Country And A Needle For The Face:
The geography of the Middle East makes it a very harsh land to stage battle in. Rocky deserts, shifting sands, enemy shrapnel and metal and houses of stone and mortar are all part of the landscape. When these blow up, the damage caused to a body can be severe and at times quite devastating. Around 28,000 U.S. soldiers are estimated to have been wounded in the war in Iraq, and more than 1,200 soldiers suffer casualtie from the Afghanistan war alone. Some soldiers return with multiple injuries and deformities and require close to seventeen surgeries to get the body back to a semblance of normalcy. The U.S. military hospitals certainly carry out their job very well. They stitch, cut, slice, bind and heal very expertly and help war veterans to get back in function.Understandably, that is just about the best they can do, seeing that physical well-being takes precedence over any other matter. But where the military hospitals sign off, plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery step in.A lot o

      “The Needle in the Haystack…”
…or was it “the straw that broke the camel’s back?” Read on, and you’ll see what I mean. I did something silly and absent-minded the other day, that could have been a “real headache” for me… I went to get the lawn mower out of the shed, when I was distracted by something. I looked up and noticed that a small tree had fallen over onto our fence, so I went over to remove the tree. I picked it up a little , which proved to be more difficult than imagined, since a couple of small branches were hung on the fence. However, I managed to free the tree and flung it over the fence… I immediately noticed that the tree was not all that I had flung over the fence! You remember how I went outside to do something else–to remove the lawn mower from the barn? Well, you see, the barn door key had been in my hand when I threw the tree over the fence, so I suppose you can guess what else went right along! So, now a very small, tarnishe

Can a Camel fit through a Needle?
I just read a post on FreeMoneyFinance this morning (he posts about a Money in the Bible every Sunday) about the famous Matthew 19 verse where Jesus says it is,”easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” This is a verse that is so frequently taken out of context, especially by people who have never opened a Bible. FMF lays out a great explanation of the verse by providing the whole passage and looking at it in context. And someone came to Him and said, “Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?” And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.” Then he said to Him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER; YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY; YOU SHALL NOT STEAL; YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS; HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER; and YOU

Finding the Haystack That Has a Needle
It is not enough to have a great product. You have to have the ability to create awareness and interest. Every day, people invent really great new products and then don't go any farther, approach the wrong market, or approach the right market in the wrong way.One cure for the wrong market or wrong way is to keep at it. To push through "The Dip" that Seth Godin wrote about.  In 1983, the literary agent for Ken Blanchard and Stuart Johnson's "One Minute Manager" contacted 14 business book publishers and was turned down by every one of them. In desperation she tried a publisher of religious thought books. That publisher accepted. When the book hit the shelves it sold like hotcakes. In fact it sold over 30 million copies! There was nothing wrong with the book except that it was not a 400 page professorial publication. The trouble is that despite the feeling that we would like to be taken on merit and not appearance, we don't get to make that choice. Finding a needle in the ocean
The deep ocean may be similar to a rainforest in terms of the range of existing microbes and their genetic diversity. The resulting biochemical diversity might provide us with novel natural drugs and enzymes for cleaner industrial processes. The following clips are available for download from Out of the Blue, a DVD on marine microbes produced by Panache Productions with support from the NERC BlueMicrobe knowledge transfer network. The interviewed researchers are Alan Bull and Jem Stach, from the Universities of Kent and Newcastle (UK), respectively. For bioprospecting, the researchers use a combination of molecular techniques, bioinformatics, novel culturing strategies and screening approaches. In addition to potential pharmaceutical and biotechnological applications, these efforts will broaden our knowledge of microbial ecology and evolution (scarce knowledge, by the way). *******************************************************This post is a contribution to Microbial Week, a col

      Needle In A Haystack
I was reading a Missing Persons article in the newspaper the other day. To be honest, I didn’t really see the point. I find it rather useless to have Australia searching for a man who fits the following description: Asian in appearance Around 30 years old With dark hair With a slim build And I really don’t think you can call me a racist for saying this because it’s plain truth; but it would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Robotic Needle Injection Machine and more
Christopher Conte has created some wild pieces of art. I think the Robotic Needle Injection Machine is my favorite though. This would be great blown nice and big and hung in the lobby of my doctors office! What is your favorite? “Christopher Conte was born in Bergen, Norway where he began drawing at age 3. At age 6, shortly after moving to New York, he started taking college art classes at Hofstra University following a recommendation from his first grade teacher. After earning a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art (BFA) from Pratt Institute, he entered the prosthetics field and began making artificial limbs for amputees in New York. Along with a combined love for sculpture, medical-science, and biomechanics, the field enabled Chris to apply his natural talents to help others in less fortunate situations, which he still does to this day.” Via: Zedomax

Help! I'm scared of my serger...& the needle broke! posted by Heathar
Not quite sure where to post this...surely there's someone out there who can help!?! I have a serger that was passed on to me by a friend who had gotten it from a friend...in any case, the price was right ($0) and I knew I'd want one someday... Problem is, the thing intimidates me like nothing else! I have no clue why! (Maybe it's all those knobs and doohickeys...) When I first got it, I put a different colored thread in each looper and needle to try to get a clue about how the knobs changed the stitches. Worked great. Made a diaper. Broke a needle. Had a baby (not related to the serger problems, but instrumental in the time delay between then and now!). Now I've gotten it out again, dusted it off, and tried to change the needle. Unfortunately, I'm having a heck of a time trying to get the new needles back in the thing. They go up to different levels in the arm, and I can't get the screw to tighten both at the same time. The new needles said 'serger needles' on the

Sewing Machines with Twin needle Capacity? posted by linco
This may be a silly question but here goes... I am thinking of buying a new machine. My current one is a Singer 247 that was given to me in 1977! It has absolutely no bells or whistles! Prior to that, I was sewing on an even more ancient Singer so I have no experience with any of the new features. I've also been out of sewing for many, many years so not up to date. I'm trying to decide what I want in a new machine. I know I want some sort of automatic threading, some fancy stitches (don't need many), drop in bobbin, and maybe twin needle capacity so that I could do some top stitching. I'm not seeing alot of Twin-needle machines. Is there a reason for that? Should I forget that idea?Last post by Bill Holman at Sun 19 Aug 2007 10:11:19 PM Total posts: 12 Visit PatternReview.com to read this entire topic.Participate in Sewing Discussions at PatternReview.com.

Help! My sewing machine has a needle stuck in it! While I was sewing, the end of the needle broke. So I went and bought new needles. When I was pulling the broken needle out of the machine, the botton bit broke off, but the top that you stick into the machine was still stuck in there! How do I get it out?Last post by Techclass at Thu 30 Aug 2007 08:37:21 PM Total posts: 10 Visit PatternReview.com to read this entire topic.Research Kenmore Sewing Machines and Sergers at PatternReview.com.

Twin Needle Tunneling posted by Lady_Mame
I'm sewing knits and I cannot get my twin needle to work right. I've loosened the tension quite a bit, but the bottom thread is still pulling tight enough to cause tunneling. The odd thing is that this isn't so bad until I put it in the wash, then it looks really BAD and the fabric in between the stiches becomes very 3-d. This is not what I'd consider thin fabric, so what might I try now?Last post by nancy2001 at Sat 08 Dec 2007 01:56:14 PM Total posts: 21 Visit PatternReview.com to read this entire topic.Read Sewing Machine Reviews at PatternReview.com.

The Bang Bang Bang of the Needle Plate posted by Fabienne301
I have had my Pfaff 2029 since June 2007. and it performs well. However, it has developed a slight "bang" every time the needle goes down. It's obviously the needle plate and it looks like it's not quite perfectly seated on the bed. I thought this had to be due to lint in the mechanism, so I took off the needle plate, lowered the feed dogs, got out the cleaning brush and went to work. Yes, there was lint in it and I thought that was jacking up one part of the needle plate and making it uneven, hence the banging. It still bangs. I called the dealer, he said that I should take a pin and clean out the underside of the machine. So, I did that, I took it all apart again and got out every iota of anything which could possible be causing the needle plate not to be seated properly. It did no

      Needle mystery posted by Stitchology
Today I began to use my yard sale 1941 Singer for the first time. It worked fine in the lady's yard but balked and balked at taking up the bobbin thread and then absolutely refused to form a stitch. I rethreaded the upper thread and redid the bobbin numerous times and finally decided to change back to the old, rusted needle it came with. That worked fine. Dug around and found the rest of the package with unused needles. The new needle I'd tried to use was a Schmetz universal, the ones that came in the machine were Schmetz for wovens. I haven't tried using a ball point to see if it likes that. The fabric is a layer of handwoven cotton, fairly large threads, not too too tightly woven, and a layer of thin, machine woven crinkle cotton, to be quilted together. The point of using the old m

Pfaff automatic needle threaders posted by juschu
Two people demonstrating two different models of new Pfaff sewing machines abandoned using the automatic needle threaders and threaded the machines manually while I was shopping for a new sewing machine. The IDT feature on Pfaff machines really interests me, but the difficulty I have seen using the automatic needle threader concerns me. The buttonholes also have not been up to my expectations, but I realize that the type of thread used may make a difference. Would anyone like to comment regarding these concerns? I am also considering the Babylock Quest and the Brother QC1000.Last post by RadarRadiance at Sat 19 Apr 2008 01:21:04 PM Total posts: 19 Visit PatternReview.com to read this entire topic.Research Viking Sewing Machines at PatternReview.com.
