In a small southern town there was a "Nativity Scene" that showed great skill and talent had gone into creating it. One small feature bothered me.The three wise men were wearing firemen's helmets. Totally unable to come up with a reason or explanation, I left. At a "Quik Stop" on the edge of town, I asked the lady behind the counter about the helmets. She exploded into a rage, yelling at me, "You stupid Yankees never do read the Bible!" I assured her that I did, but simply couldn't recall anything about firemen in the Bible.She jerked her Bible from behind the counter and ruffled through some pages, and finally jabbed her finger at a passage. Sticking it in my face she said "See, it says right here, 'The three wise man came from afar.'"I see you! Don't forget to leave a comment and have a great day. :)
You know I find myself wishing I could both translate stuff into morse code and listen to that translation all the time (ok not really). Fortunately for the world someone has gone and busted out a java applet (an applet!!) that does just that giving you both a visual and audio representation! (via) Even better than that (as if it could get better!) it allows you to control the pitch and speed of the audio playback! What they needed to do was A) make it take in a url and work like a translator B) make a little flash widget that played back whatever it is you wanted to translate that you could embed on your page. You know what I’m saying? I want to embed some god freakin’ damn morse code on my site.
Following up on god damned… some Archbishop, ok not just any archbishop, but the Archbishop of Canterbury - which is kind of like THE archbishop if you were to ask me. Go ahead ask me… anyways, he’s gone on record as saying that that whole nativity thing, y&rsq
My family participated in the live Nativity at St Philip. What a wonderful experience! The families really enjoyed the entire day, from the food to the crafts and visit with Santa. But the most wonderful experience was to see their faces as we performed the nativity story. Where there might have been a language barrier, it was erased as the drama of the birth of Christ came to life. Everyone did a awesome job! The love of Christ was so evident, expressed by each volunteer and experienced by each person and family there. It was a blessing to my family and really helped us remember and experience the reason for the season and all the celebration, Jesus!
Blessings,
Kim
I'm going to post a couple of really bad nativity scenes. This one looks like baby jesus only had cat food to eat and rigor mortis is setting in. I think the source blog is in the UK.
I Came Upon A Midnight Weird
Here is a fine example of the Really Depressed Animal nativity genre.
The look on cat-Mary's face is all too familiar; it usually means that there is only sad, dry cat food in the bowl.
Also…why are the angels dogs?

We've only been to see a couple of 'live' nativity scenes. There was one in Ohio that had everything including a camel. We didn't know that our 11-year old son was deathly afraid of camels, honest. That was not a pleasant expedition.
It seems that these spectacles can be quite a problem for churches. Here's a news item on the practice that caught my eye.
Camels walk miles on Whidbey Island.
For 25 years, the Christmas Nativity scene in front of St Peter's Basilica has shown the infant Jesus in a manger in Bethlehem. This year, however, the Vatican has decided to radically change the scene, shifting it to Nazareth, and placing Jesus in his father's carpentry shop. Article
Welcome again to the Winter Bazaar, I'm worried that by posting so many Christmas crafts you'll think you have to have a craft idea to join in but not true. Games, activities, recipes, gift ideas, tips for getting through the holidays without stress, all sorts of things are welcome it's just that I've been in a horrendous crafting mood lately and can't help myself. Crafts are my thing right now.***This is my most prized Christmas decoration: a piece of glass with a nativity scene etched onto the surface with an grooved oak stand to hold the picture upright.My photograph isn't the greatest--you wouldn't believe how hard it is to take a picture of a piece of glass, you're getting the shine off the surface or my reflection or any number of other issues but you can see the basic elements of the design.The nativity sits on our dinner table and looks beautiful with votives around it or sprigs of berries around the bottom.It looks difficult to make but really it isn't, and it look
The girls helped me put up our nativity scene the other night. Their excitement was awesome! When we were done, Emily was looking at it with a very confused look on her face. She looked at me and said, "But where's Noah?" I said, "He's in the playroom with his ark.", but then had a good laugh.*************************************Yesterday at church I was teaching about 25 kids under the age of 4 about the Christmas story. We were talking about the manger. I told them that animals eat food out of a manger. But since Mary and Joseph didn't have a bed for Baby Jesus, they used the manger for his bed. I had a box and put some hay in it and then gently laid a baby doll into it. One of the little boys had a really scared look on his face and said, "Oh no, are the animals going to eat Baby Jesus?" I assured him that the animals didn't eat Baby Jesus, but got another good laugh!

I am the first to admit I have no artistic ability at all.
None.
Zilch.
Nada.
Even the stick figures I attempt to create come out crooked. However, my six year old daughter seems to have been blessed with the artistic gene. The detail she captures when she draws never ceases to amaze me. She whipped this beauty out in one sitting.

Nativity Sermon
By St. Isaac the Syrian (d. AD 700)
This Christmas night bestowed peace on the whole world;
So let no one threaten;
This is the night of the Most Gentle One -
Let no one be cruel;
This is the night of the Humble One -
Let no one be proud.
Now is the day of joy -
Let us not revenge;
Now is the day of Good Will -
Let us not be mean.
In this Day of Peace -
Let us not be
